Fantastic old coaster footage/pics

Totally hadn't a clue that Kings Island had a large Arrow log flume. Oh how I miss these great rides!

Was called like... Keelboat Canals and was removed for/replaced by Tomb Raider.

^That's awesome, thank you for sharing that!

Two of our members live in the flats that stand on that site now (<//3) so it's really cool to see that - been a lot of times to where it was but never known what the ride was actually like!

Such a shame!

Here's some interesting colour footage of Blackpool Pleasure Beach in 1978 courtesy of British Movietone. This video has only managed to garner a few hundred views on YouTube despite it featuring some alternative footage of BPB rides.

That was fab. I'd like to say it's just how I remember Blackpool, but it's mostly just because Blackpool hasn't really changed :p

Pity there was no footage inside the Fun House - that was epic. It's answered a question I've had for a while though - "did the Nash run as fast back then?"

The answer is "looks like it". Which is worrying when you consider it didn't have any restraints!!!

It's okay, some footage of the Fun House here:

Yeah that is a shame. I've always been curious as to what the Fun House was actually like inside, since many friends and family tell me it was always one of their Pleasure Beach highlights back in the day. That video makes it look great fun, albeit a health and safety concern in today's climate :p It sure reminds me of Frontierland's old Fun House which I did manage to get on a couple of times during my childhood. Which reminds me... another gem for anyone who remembers visiting!

The book A Century of Fun has a great photo from inside the fun house, and it's a great book about the PB overall from 1996.

^Great find! I never realized just how many piers and coasters there were in the LA area way back when. So many fantastic looking rides.

Posting TilenB's fantastic photos of the lost St. Petersburgh coaster:

We all know of the great American Roller coaster Boom of the early 20th Century in which countless coasters had been built across the country, before the era being abruptly ended by great depression. But few coaster enthusiast know that Europe also had a fair few coasters (mostly scenic railways) as well. One of those used to stand in St. Petersburg.

The coaster was located Gosnardoma Garden (where a zoo is located nowadays) and was built as replacement for a previous ride that burned down in November 1932. Work on it started in 1933 and the ride opened by May 1934. It was 1,2km long and 34 meters high. The project was realized by the architects A.P.Velikanovym and A.F.Hryakovym, while the mechanical part of the construction was supervised by P.V.Startsev. The ride was sadly bombed down in a German air raid on October 17th 1941. It was a strategic target, since the Russians have used its structure to store fuel and food. Needless to say, the ride burned down quickly after it got hit.

Here are some photos:

I think this was a coaster that pre-dated it and burned down in 1932:

Oh, and here is another one I'd found on the internet, this time on the complete other side of Europe, in Barcelona. Also a pre-WWII coaster that has sparked my interest due it being one of the first steel coasters in the world and most probably the first one in Europe. I love the theme!

I'm not sure if this one is legit, since the only pages with it are advertising some sort of an art show and generally don't talk about the coaster.

Fantastic find on those European Scenics!
That Pic from Barcelona appears to be similar to the coaster that once stood at Blackpool's Winter Gardens in that it's steel in structure - there was an image on a previous thread I started but the link is sadly now dead:

And here for your delectation are some pics of Butlin's Wild Mouse at Littlehampton courtesy of the site below:

Wow - I didn't know there was a "big" coaster ever in Littlehampton. When you look though, most seaside resorts have had something over the years. I just love the way it's plonked on top of the cafe.

Looking at this:

What the hell? Why are they stood at the top of an incline by the side of the coaster before the dragon mouth drop? It's like the coaster has stalled, so they've got out for a cuppa before that guy in the hat and moustache pushes it on and leaps on board James Bond style.

Some fantastic rare photos on the following site also of coasters I've never seen pics of such as those at the British Exhibitions in Wembley, Liverpool & Glasgow; Morecambe, Spanish City and Rhyl's Figure 8s; and tons of other stuff.

Unfortunately I can't get the indvidual image urls to copy here so I highly recommend you head over and have a look! A real treasure trove of over 200 vintage UK amusement park photos and postcards.

And Furie - there is a pic of another coaster on the site below in Littlehampton bigger than the Wild Mouse called the 'Giant Dipper' - although RCDB lists it as 'Big Dipper'.
