Unpopular opinion, but The Netherlands song really grew on me between the semi-final and the final. Not a Eurovision-esque song, but a good one anyway. It's the only track I've bought from an otherwise dismal year for my iTunes library.
I thought Austria would just be a gimmick until I saw Conchita actually perform. Good voice, good song and aided to win by the gimmick. But that's Eurovision.
One of my favourite songs from the competition was Latvia's about cake - how the hell that didn't get through I have no idea! There was a lack of jokey songs this year. Poland, however, had me rocking a hard one. As did the Russian twins.
I've never been a fan of our (the UK) song, but on the day it was by far the worst performance I have seen of it. It didn't have the "power" that it has done in the more intimate performances I've seen of it. It couldn't stand up in such a big arena and being last didn't help much.
