Europa Park |"Wodan"| GCI Wood

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

Maybe they'll use the train storage/transfer track housing as an offloading platform. When I rode Troy it seemed like that's what it was designed for even though it's not used. It's a block section and would definatly increase throughput.

It's going up!

Yummy. All those pieces will be at the end of the first drop. Source: Facebook.

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

Wow! That first drop looks like it was ripped right from the aeroplane coaster!

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

Marc that is a rather Italian looking German website :p Also the pics and video were posted on one of the previous pages.

I think this will be pretty epic and the way it interacts with Blue Fire is going to be awesome, really looking forward to this one.

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

I know Marc posted a link to the model a few posts above, but here's the actual image because I want to post how fab it looks. I love the way it cuts above and below other rides. If this was in the UK or USA, there'd be a mass-creaming over this and the topic would have a zillion pages by now!

Gorgeous!

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

It does look fantastic :) I just love the way it goes under and over other rides. When we went that area lacked things, it wont do soon that is for sure.

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

The first drop is basically Terminator's, isn't it? Which is fine by me, that drop is fierce.

But, I must be the only one that HATES how it mixes with other rides. It REALLY does my OCD in at a park like Europa. It's HUGE, every coaster should have its own little bit on its own, not going over and under others. It looks like Blackpool then. Same with PA's new B&M. WHY?!? It's gross.

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

^ I think that's one of the charms about Blackpool. I love the "busy" feel when riding The Big Dipper. I don't like the ride but the way it crosses through several rides appeals to me. It feels manic.

Ok, so I've never been to Europa so I can't say if it'll work there or not AND I do like rides having their own area (which is another reason why I'm looking forward to Swarm), but in this instance, I really think the criss-crossing will add to the ride experience.

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

^Yeah, I think with woodies it adds to that sense of 'oh **** we're going to die' that you just don't get with steel coasters, especially those which are secluded in their own 'section'.

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

Hmmmm ordinarily I would agree with Ian and nadroJ on this. I love when coasters intersect.

However, with this one, Im not so sure. I don't really like the way it works with the water ride thingy )cant remember its name) because it looks incredibly 'planned' out that way in an RCT sense if you get me. :S

Also, if the assumption of a Nordic theme is right then its a bit bizarre it crosses into a more Atlantic/Grecian themed attraction.

Besides that, I think the coaster looks fantastic.

Ok, so I've never been to Europa so I can't say if it'll work there or not.

Europa is basically the exact opposite of Blackpool. For one, it's good. For another, it's ridiculously themed, so having two themes crossing makes me sad inside.

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

Tbh I thought the park was well themed but everything was alone in its own little world which I why I like what they have done this time.

I actually thought the park was quite boring before if I am honest, it was all very RCT and clinical a bit to perfect.

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

I don't think the themes clash too badly. I mean, sure it is a Nordic (awesome!) themed coaster, but I the parts of the coaster crossing over to differently themed areas don't appear to have giant Viking ships and icebergs plastered to them. The theme is mostly limited to the station area and perhaps the trains, but I don't think the trains will affect the Grecian theme much. For the most part, it will be a wood structure.

Greece is at the other side of the park, Atlantica Supersplash in in the Portuguese area.

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

Yeah, for the most part it's the wooden structure... Over the well-themed water ride and coaster...

Just... ugh... why... Then not to mention having the only two good coasters there just NEXT to each other...

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

Surely the excitement is heightened when the ride in question it intersects with is a water ride. Make for an interesting ride. I love how all the wooden rides interact in Blackpool and Port Aventura.

Re: GCI Wooden Coaster - Europa Park 2012

^The entrance to Blue Fire is through a building at the other side of the Iceland area. When I last visited the area around Supersplash wasn't that busy so I don't think crowding is too much of an issue. The wooden structure will create a cool headchopper for Supersplash which is otherwise a slightly boring ride IMO. The station and the Ship in front of the last little drop are well themed but there's not much they can do to theme the rest without making a building all around the turning platforms.

I think it's pretty harsh to say that they'll be the "only two good coasters there" Matterhorn-Blitz and Eurosat are quality rides, plus no matter how much people slag off Silver Star, the tallest coaster on the continent (or second according to BPB) is still a good thrill for most, even if it doesn't pack the airtime you'd like it to.
