Europa Park to retheme Children's Land to Ireland

I have always wondered why parks don't make use of the 'Irish' theme more, there's such a rich culture of mythology and even modern Ireland is beautiful, it's just the perfect theme! Looking forward to seeing how this pans out.

^ Probably because even though it's rich in mythology, that mythology isn't widely known outside Ireland.

Ask most people what they know about Ireland, and it won't get much further than Guinness, leprechauns and Saint Patrick's Day.

You could make the same arguments for Wales: rich mythology, impressive landscapes etc. It's just not well-known outside the immediate area. Granted, Ireland is better known than Wales as a country, but the mythology isn't and that's the point I'm making.

Parks which focus on specific countries for each area, like Europa or Epcot, can afford to perhaps be a bit less obvious in their choices, but for most parks it makes more sense to stick with the instantly recognisable, yet generic, Egypt, Wild West and Far East themes.

Some current construction pics from EPFans.info

Not much to look at for the moment, but the slides have been removed and are being stored near the Horror Nights Tents.

Also, kiddy cred, which is long overdue imo, they have been missing an entry level coaster for the under 5s.

It was vikingland, which was basically a giant play park with big slides etc, and a couple of small round rides I think.

So Screamscape confirmed that 3 new rides will be added along with a covered indoor play area. One of the rides is a custom Zierer Kontiki.

EP have updated their map to include the new area.

But the site is still a mess, loads to do, plenty of construction pics over at epfans.info

Sorry, saw this concept art on Twitter a few weeks ago but forgot to post it.

It's not how I envision Ireland but it's a theme park, a land of make believe, so we'll let them off. I do like those beastly heads on the slides.

Agreed, not very Irish apart from the colour palette. But then, I always think Europa portray countries in quite a strange way so whatever, cred in a fab park, yay.

Even Klugheim looks more 'Irish' than this. This kind of looks like the village from Asterix comics mixed with a bit of Toverland's Magische Vallei.

Dunno, but now Europa has +3 for me, so I kind of have to go back.

So they called the boat thing 'Titanic' <3

(I'm
Not sure if the ride is called that, but it's written on the actual ride)

One of the only lifeboats to be released it seems

There are tonnes of big, sexier coaster projects going on but for some reason I'm obsessed with this new area.
