Efteling | Danse Macabre | Intamin Dynamic Motion Stage | 2024

I rode it this week for the first time and I was initially very worried about the spinning (I usually avoid rides with any kind of spinning as I do suffer from motion sickness) but with Danse Macabre I found the sensation to be just about bearable for me and it did not make me feel nauseous at all. I do wonder if the ride system is capable of being more forceful but it’s maybe toned down a bit for the Efteling audience? I especially felt this on the dropping section - I felt like that was actually not that forceful and I wanted a bit more from it to be honest!

Overall I did love the ride. As others have said it is a full experience, with the spookiness of the whole area being very well achieved (especially at night). Especially as Efteling do not run a Halloween event, this does fill a certain hole for them. I never experienced Spookslot so cannot comment on that experience versus this one. Danse Macabre has some really cool effects and I also really like how Efteling have already incorporated the classical music piece that the ride is based on into some of their other experiences such as the Aquanura fountain show.

Overall it’s a great experience - is it my favourite ride in the park? No that’s still Symbolica but Danse Macabre is definitely now up there with Efteling’s impressive collection of dark rides.

Spoilers, but Intamin have shared a lovely clip which shows the underneath of the ride when it's in motion...

It's fantastic!
Me and the goons minced over to Belgium and the Netherlands last weekend and Danse Macabre was undoubtedly one of, if not the highlight of the trip. I absolutely loved it. New favourite ride at Efteling, new favourite dark ride in Europe and possibly the best dark ride outside of Disney and Universal.
It's one of those rare occasions where ride hardware and thematic concept are married perfectly and, in a way only Efteling know how, executed flawlessly. It's a piece of theatre, it's a work of art and it's unlike anything else you've ever been on. It's the most Efteling thing ever, and if you love Efteling as much as I do, if you 'get' it, then you'll 100% love Danse Macabre.
Brilliant, brilliant ride.
