Doctor Who

Read in an article with an interview that one of the main reasons for the redesign of the Daleks was so they could release more merchandise for people to buy. Now that there's different colours people will want to collect them and get the set.

Now about the last episode. I hated it. I still find Matt Smith annoying and the scripts are terrible. They've now ruined the Weeping Angels which was what I was worried about. They're not even angels anymore. ****s sake. Nothing happened in that episode either.
I just found it quite dull and un-exciting. They should be going full swing on this series now. We're already 4 episodes in.
 
I'm loving the evolution of storylines as opposed to simply rinsing and repeating previous shows! :)

And Ollie; here's the point... *throws point*

Actually Ollie they are still the angels, if you had been paying any form of attention you will have realised that the statues are deformed ones and lost their features having been trapped and dormant for years...

And we're judging an unfinished tale as well since it continues on next week... So unless 'nothing' happens in that one as well (stuff DID happen in that episode, or were you hiding behind the sofa and to proud to admit it?), then your arguement is sound...

I quite like the River Song angle they're bringing in and it's somewhat different from the rest of the normal formula (arrive at planet, find out problem, discuss problem, run, think of genius plan, win, leave, etc)...

Matt Smith has been very good so far as well... He's bringing something different to the table... He seems enjoyable to watch for one thing and really seems to be giving his all... I approve...

Why should we be in full swing into a series 4 episodes in? Silly Ollie... You really cannot expect to see people really taking a role to their own so early in any series with new people...
 
The latest episode seems to be a step in the right direction. Some genuine tension, the Doctor actually making mistakes, and a decent plot that makes sense and doesn't feel horribly rushed like the last two episodes did.

I suspect the single complete, all powerful angel will feature more in the next episode, so hopefully that will keep Ollie happy. There's nothing wrong with having a few lower power "minions" if you will ahead of the "big bad" to build up the tension.

As for going full out with the series - this isn't the time to go full steam ahead with big overarching plot lines. Drop a few hints here and there, sure, such as the cracks in the universe, or introduce new characters - I suspect some of the characters from the current episode (episode 4) will re-appear later in the series - but it's still to early to do anything more than that. Major plot lines don't usually start until about half way through a series.
 
I really liked the episode. They kept all the tension with the angels. I loved the sequence with Amy and the video screen. One of those "just when you thought you were safe" moments. The rest of the episode had good moments. I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to bits of the plotline, since it got interrupted by tea, so I won't comment on it. I'm looking forward to next week's epiode anyway.
 
Personally I loved it. Matt smith is making the role his own, and was the perfect antithesis for last week's multicoloured pap. Steven Moffat has a genuine knack of making you miss the scary obvious things, and I will never tire of that.

Now if only the UK theme park industry would give us a Dr Who themed ride...even a ruddy ghost train might be nice!
 
I've been waiting for the River Song plot to return ever since she first appeared. It's a really interesting idea that I think they'd been to scared to go into in the past.

I don't always like the storylines that take two episodes, I find it quite nice to be able to watch an entire plot in a week, but this is a very tense one, so hopefully that will continue in the next episode.

I quite like spreading a plotline. It gives more scope for deeper plot developement, exploring the characters and monsters. I agree with others that the main downfall of the series so far was busying the plotline with too many elements and then not explaining them thoroughly because they weren't given enough time. The Beast Below was terrible for this. There was a plot, there were monsters, but they didn't get sufficiently developed.
 
But if you try watching the "old" (pre-revival) shows, they were spread out over 5 or 6 episodes. I know things are a bit differen now in the new ones, but it can get a bit tedious, because the more depth you have, the more needs explaining about the aliens, and the more you explain about an alien species, the stranger and less realistic it then becomes.

I'm not suggesting that aliens have to be realistic, an audience is expected to suspend it's disbelief, but it gets ridiculous after a while.
