Depends on the kind of roughness. Grand National has got to the point of annoyance now, for example, and rough coasters with OTSRs aren't a lot of fun.

However, I do like to be thrown about and roughness as a general rule doesn't bother me. I often don't reride things because of headaches, though.

NO, every steel coaster should be smooth, and it is not enjoyable if a steel coaster is rough (I always take into consideration the age of the coaster however). Woodies are meant to be rough and I understand that, but there is a point where it becomes painful and that is what I don't like.

In my opinion, for something to be desirable and loved, it needs to have human like qualities, and flaws. Roughness is a flaw. Roughness, makes a coaster human like. I love rough coasters, it gives them character and feel.

I agree with this, up to the point where I'm physically injured on a coaster. Then, that's just taking the piss.

I Like It Smooth

When I come off Roller Coasters sutch as Gwazi at Busch Gardens Africa and Pepsi Max I have bruises on myu body and when I go on great rides like Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit and Kumali I love the smooth Coaster!

Sometimes i like it such as on small rides e.g wild mouse BPB, woodies, and on some steel coasters like colossus (THORPE PARK) and Big One, but apart from that ive got to say no.

Depends on the ride.

I absolutely adore Hurler because it's not a painful rough but a fun rough.
I love all of Arrow's rides.
I hate headbanging on a B&M because one hit and your day is ruined.
Grizzly is a fun ride but it has its issues with realigning my spine and making the person next to me elbow me in the jaw.

So yeah for the most part I don't mind rough rides unless it's so intolerably rough that I want to crawl into a hole and die afterwards (Thunderhawk)

Yet.. you like Arrow. Ironic is it not?

I fit just about perfectly in Arrow's restraints so I don't get the whole headbanging and pain. B&Ms restraints, however, are at the perfect height to hit my head, and B&M's restraints don't exactly give when hit.

Horsecollars are MUCH harder then B&M restraints. You must be pampered by some modified Arrow trains. :p

QFT!

Aidan won't go anywhere near an Arrow horse collar, but doesn't mind B&M restraints. I'll ride an Arrow, but would take a B&M restraint over a horse collar any & every time.

I think what he means is that while B&M restraints are more comfortable overall than Arrow restraints, a B&M smack hurts a lot more than one on an Arrow. At least that's how I feel about the restraints.

Vekoma SLC restraints/pillows ftw. :p

Yes, exactly. Well I mean I don't find an Arrow's restraints uncomfortable, but I'd much rather spend a long time in a B&M train than an Arrow one. However hitting my head against one of B&M's restraints gives me a headache, which no other coaster manages to do.

And yes to the Vekoma restraints with pillows. I quite enjoyed Sidewinder (I don't know whether it was the padding that cushioned the headbanging or it was just a smooth ride)

It's extremely rare for a B&M to be rough, even the oldest B&M's don't come close to be as rough as the odd Vekoma/Arrow coaster. If there's a rough spot on a B&M, it doesn't bother me at all, I still come off painless and smiling. :)

Some Vekoma's on the other hand absolutely kill me!

I don't know about all of that.. I've had some rough B&M's over the years.. moreso from the State up class and a few Inverts who haven't grown well.

If a ride is rough, it spoils it and decreases popularity. I think theme parks should have smoother rides. Corkie was VERY rough no matter what I tried.

Voyage was rough and yet it is still ranked as one of the best wooden coasters on earth and is still as popular as ever. ;)

The rougher, the better! My favorite roller coaster was Texas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas, a massive woodie. It was so rough that they are making it a hybrid :(
