Strata Poster
So this year is DLP's 20th.

The celebrations started yesterday with a premiere of the new show "Dreams!" which was shown live on French TV and was watchable on t'internet.

The Disney link was only available for a while last night (~11 To midnight euro-time), but the MP4 is still there;

But the French TV coverage was much better though (since its HD) and it is still available now (the next day) here;

The show is all lots of projections on the castle (if you can't tell)

Nice double post... ;)

I like it, projection effects are amongst some of my favourite Technological Lighting we see. Especially if it's Mapping, I can't work out if it is though or if it's just flooding?

Couple of the scenes are very similar to the awesome Villa Volta one's from a few months ago...

It also has Friends on the Other Side section, much joy!

3D Projection Mapping. It's been done well before Villa Volta, mainly on the première of ToT in Paris.

Watched it last night. Whilst I'm sure it looks quite impressive in real life, I was underwhelmed. They've made the effort to install fountains and water screens, yet I feel that they're underused. The choice of featured characters and songs didn't really go down very well with me either. Peter Pan is such a burden </3

It's also far too French.

And everything French is awful.

Basically, I still feel like they've added some low maintenance, cheap to keep running projections and fountains to a normal firework show (with less fireworks now because there's "extras") to try and make it "special".

Bitch, please, watch Fantasmic and then tell me this is the same calibre <//3

^Really? It just looks like any other Disney castle show except with sub-par use of fountain projections and less fireworks. No where near on par with Fantasmic or World of Color.

Wow that's all I can say its stunning and I want to go and see it.

It's what the park needs its just stunning.

Sacre blue, J'adore! <3

Seriously. Having seen quite a few of the Disney shows now, this certainly suggests that once I have seen it in real life I will rank it amongst the best Disney shows and certainly the best DLP has put on offer. It isn't quite up there with Fantasmic but to be fair, that is a whole different ball game considering their settings etc. I think the effects used are fantastic and it looks beautiful. It just looks stunning and I am really pleased that they have put together such a vibrant and well paced set of animations. The 'Friends on the other side' section was a total wow moment. Given the restrictions on fireworks that DLRP has, I think they have done a great job. I have been saying that they need a proper end of day show for ages and now they finally have it :)

I loved the fact they used some different characters rather than the obvious Tink and Jiminy. I also appreciated the fact they used so many of the European based stories (which makes sense) and also films that are rarely used elsewhere - Hunchback is all too often overlooked!

I do wish it could all be in English but unfortunately, that is never going to happen.

I have always been put off going to DLRP in the summer because of the crowds but I must admit, I really want to see this in person.

I can not believe I am about to say it but... Well done Disneyland Paris!

I like the show, I think it's amazing for the park. Luckily I get to see it in person at the end of the month so will definitely be able to fully make up my mind about it then.

I think what gives this new show the edge over say World of Color is the use of the castle, you really couldn't get a better location/backdrop for a show.

Can someone please tell me why the Genie doesn't sing his song, feels really odd without lyrics.

I wouldn't say it has an edge 'over' world of colour though. WoC is very much about the fountains, walls of water for projections and fire effects. This is more focus on the building. They both have their own wow factors.

^ Pretty jealous. I need to go back to the park, I've still got a load of creeds that need adding.

*buys projector, projects a Disney film on an adjacent building whilst it rains*

Yay, I've see this show now too!

Oh come on Ben it's a little bit more complex than projecting a film on a wall...

The way I see it, if you can get away with a cheap technique that makes stuff look pretty cool, then go for it, even if you're Disney ;]

I work in the field of live events and if you only knew the complexity of a show like this you'd be amazed. From concept through to realisation a project like this is a massive undertaking. Bringing all of the production elements together to create a 20 odd minute show like this is the work of people at the top of their game. Sometimes it's the things that look the simplest that are hardest to create.

Cheap, these shows are certainly not! I mean that in respect to both producing and then running. Video is a budget eater. Due to its infancy (it's still a relatively new thing to use in live events when compared to lighting, sound, pyro etc) the cost of the equipment is huge. Rent or purchase it doesn't matter. On recent projects I have spent equal amounts on lighting and video, but ask anyone that has seen these jobs and they assume that the lighting budget is 5 or 6 times that of video.

The Disney production team are up their with the very very best, I've worked for them abroad and in the UK so can tell you this from first hand experience. Sorry to rant but it winds me up when people assume that things like this are cheap and easy to create/run. Wether you enjoy the content or not at least have a bit of respect for the guys and girls that work round the clock to produce shows like this.
