What's new

Deno's Wonder Wheel Park | Phoenix | Vekoma Suspended coaster | 2021

It's a bit off topic but the Evergrande group in China have bought several 550m models of SFC which is a good 100m longer than the usual Orkanen model.

With those and phoenix it seems Vekoma are branching out with new layouts for the SFC model a bit.

Certainly a good thing as the SFCs are great junior rides.

So I think that SFC's tracks which have been found at Vekoma's factory where not for Phoenix. Energylandia 56th credit? 😅

I like the idea that that's Tesla self-parking feature doing that and the driver is in for a shock when they see it. :D

More progress...

As you can see, I had full access to the construction site, so I filmed a walkthru video as well. I hope to have it up on our Youtube channel in about 2 hours. I'll post it here once it's rendered.

Some of those transitions looks great with wider angle photos. Very dynamic looking!

I remember reading a few years ago, back in 2018 or 2019, about Deno's wanting to open a proper-size coaster for their 100th anniversary last year, and given their cramped location and presumably minimalist budget, I wasn't expecting anything more than a relocated Zyklon or Windstorm at best. But when Phoenix was announced, I was shocked! These Vekoma SFCs are always great additions for small parks, and I'd love to see more custom layouts!

Here's the construction site walkthru video, as promised. 🙂

I was impressed by how knowledgeable the owner was and how they'd done their research. Shame you couldn't hear everything he was saying due to the mask and all the background construction noise!

Looks like a great project for them anyway. I really need to get back to Coney Island sometime as there's a good half a dozen new creds for me there now :)

Took another ride on my motorcycle to Coney Island yesterday. Track work is complete and the station concrete pour is taking place this weekend. Most of these photos were taken from the walkway that will cut underneath the coaster, but will likely have netting over it once the ride opens. Love the funky turnaround that's gone up since my last visit (whatever it's called) and the tons of twisty bits!

Here's the video I filmed that includes plenty of drone footage in addition to the site walk through:

Someone took Michigan's Adventure SLC as an example of how not to paint a roller coaster.
