So I lost touch with the coaster community in 2008 and have not really had many park visits. I would like to find out what has been built and what has gone. (apparently the corkscrew at Flamingo land has also gone). I'm looking forward to riding new coasters, so what should I look out for?

Corkscrew has gone

A few that come to mind
Saw - Thorpe Park
The Swarm - Thorpe Park
XNWO rebranded into X now goes forwards
Th13teen - Alton Towers
Hero opening soon at Flamingo Land
Twistosaurus opening soon at Flamingo Land
Zoom! - Flamingo Land
The Smiler - Alton Towers

Mumbo Jumbo - Flamingoland (2009)
The Smiler - Alton Towers (2013 first 14 inversion coaster!)
Saw: The Ride - Thorpe Park (2009)
The Swarm: Thorpe Park (2012 UK's first Winged Coaster and last 2 rows are going backwards)
X:/ No Way out going forwards and name changed to simply X (2013)
Hero - Flamingoland (2013 A damn Volare)
Twistosaurous - Flamingoland (2013)
Th13teen - Alton Towers ( 2010 First "freefall drop" on a coaster)
Crush's Coaster - Disneyland Paris (2011 a spinning coaster)

Tried to make it as UK based as possible.

I have been on the Smiler and 13. Ill have to take a trip to Mingo and Thorpe it looks like then. Last time I went to Flamingo land The Bullet and magnum force were still their, and the last time I went to thorpe Saw was being constructed.

Plenty going on in Europe also, since 2008 there's been quite a few nice shiny new rides.

2012 - Shambhala - Portaventura - The new tallest in Europe
2012 - Oz'Iris - Parc Asterix
2012 - Divertical - Mirabilandia
2012 - Wodan Timbur - Europa Park
2011 - Krake - Heide Park
2011 - Raptor - Gardaland - The first of the B&M Wing Coasters you wont be able to avoid
2009 - Blue Fire - Europa Park
2009 - iSpeed - Mirabilandia

To name just a few.

Also the speed record was broken at 149mph buy Formula Rossa, a coaster in Abu Dhabi

The flying Jumbos at Chessington have moved from Toytown to Mexicana.

Apart from that you haven't missed much.

Wood coasters can do this...

Steel Coasters can do this....

B & M is now building these

Gerstlauer has gotten famous for building these

And Intamin is still making huge, fast rides that breakdown frequently, often need trims, but still push the limits of what a coaster can do.

Intimidator 305 looks absolutely mental (Id have to be drunk)!

It seems like some wooden coasters are getting steel tracks. I'm really not sure what to make of that.

Insane, well looks insane. I heard Steel Dragon has some form of special earthquake protection? I doubt ill be going to Japan any time soon though.

^The trim brakes on Intimidator are exactly the same as they were when the coaster opened. The only permanent change they made was to the first curve so that it banks up into the airitme hill sooner.
