Canada’s Wonderland | Tundra Twister | Mondial Avalanche | 2023

At Winterfest tonight, grabbed a few photos while there was still daylight out. Work has begun on Tundra Twister, that whole park area is closed off;

Snoopy’s Racing Railway meanwhile has a ton of land cleared that isn’t visible from the kids area. I can’t guarantee the legality of some of these photos;

I imagine that'll be it until the spring, only setting out and initial excavation. Too cold to be casting any foundations right now. Thanks for the pics!

Park is kind enough to post updates, interesting info all around;

Tundra Twister is shaping up to not only look the part, but be an extremely tight squeeze more than anything else. In a very unusual call for the park, the loading platform will be located 10 ft above the pathway for clearance, as it will swing over the waterpark and Yukon Striker. The site is barely enough to hold the ride’s hard footprint and a cattlepen, so it’s great to see how Tundra Twister will interact with Yukon Striker. If it’s mechanically sound, we have a win on our hands for sure.

Ahhh thats a shame. Though I admire their commitment to the target audience. CW has so many thrilling coasters that it'd be a shame for the ones that can't ride it to have their rides inaccessible due to groups of people coming through the kids land and clogging up the queue. Ultimately its a pretty fair tradeoff given how much the adults already get out of the park, and keeps camp snoopy fun for its intended guests.

Snoopy went vertical a few weeks ago and coaster construction is rolling merrily along;

The real star of the show here continues to be Tundra Twister, however, which has just arrived on site. Work is currently still underway on some very serious looking foundations for both the ride and its elevated platform. I cannot stress this enough, but it is BAFFLING AND ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE that they're able to squeeze this into such close proximity with Yukon Striker.

Attached below are some edited drone pics (all courtesy of the usual suspects) with the corner footers (red for ride and yellow for platform), also roughly overlaid with the original Avalanche concept, which seems to have been modified from the animation. Below that is a diagram (source unknown) sizing it up against the local pendulum rides; red is a Zierer Star Shape, grey is CW's own Psyclone Mondial frisbee, and blue is Tundra Twister.

Trailer dropped, first animation of this kind of ride we've had since that conceptual video a couple of years ago. Compared to said video, the ride design's got that Mondial bulk and motor now. It also looks ****ing nuts, has a pretty clever logo to if you look at the two T's;

In terms of construction, Tundra Twister has gone up and the motor is next to be installed. They currently have a temporary support structure holding it up and the ride's grouping platform has been enclosed in a building (hopefully there will be theming). The station meanwhile is being constructed for Snoopy's Racing Railway. Opening is intended for the end of the month and in true Canada's Wonderland style, they've procrastinated on construction and then hired nothing but the best contractors to work extremely quickly. Here's to opening that they can open at least one of the attractions with the park;

Oh lord, no thank you. :D

Visited the park this afternoon for a somewhat rainy afternoon but no lines and free dinner made it perfect. The two new rides look very good in person indeed; Tundra Twister is a hulking piece of equipment that would look gigantic if it wasn’t surrounded by dive coaster, but I dare say that once it opens then this will work out to its benefit. Snoopy’s Racing Railway meanwhile is still working on buildings and is quite regal, the park is really going out of their way to theme this thing. It has its own station plaza and terrain that really sets it atop the kids area. Too bad this won’t be an easy credit to grab.
