I'll give you clues Phil...

It's a species of hyena. So you were half there.
It's small.
It's found in Africa.
It's the only species of hyena which doesn't have the word "hyena" in it's common name.
Unlike all other hyenas, it doesn't hunt large prey, but is predominately an insectivore.
It's name is a combination of two other animals with which it has things in common. The first part is to do with it's diet, the second it's appearance.

If you don't know it now, you never will.

I was looking for The Lesser Key of the Solomon's Ars Goetia giving the translation I used and where I got it from but yours can fly. Who's turn is it now? do we have like 2 different thread going at the same time?
 
Ahhh Joey, I've heard of them, but I didn't know what they looked like or were part of the hyena family. I'll let somebody else work it out (as I had to cheat) and post what it is, but they're very cool :)

Kim, it was Joey's go because you're a Happy Noodle Boy! My book "flies" due to being, like, the original reference :P
 
Yeah, I think a lot of people have heard of it but don't know what it is. I didn't know it was a hyena until the other month, I thought it was a species of jackal.
 
That first picture you posted really, really looks like a jackal, so it's why I first thought that. Also, it does look a huge amount like a striped hyena :lol:
 
But you weren't, most pictures of striped hyenas you're right, but if you HAD been being sneaky, you could have found an image of a striped hyena that you picked because it deliberately looked like an aardwolf ;)

Yeah, I don't really know much about guns so I couldn't name the specific models, but I've seen the movie dozens of times so the dialogue is pretty ingrained in my head. I did the best I could with that one. :roll:
