Re: Busch Gardens Tampa | Cobra’s Curse | Mack spinning coas
Oh, right right... This is still a thing.
A couple of days ago I made the drive out to Tampa and visited Busch Gardens. When I first got into the park everything was closed because there were thunderstorms in the area. As I was walking over to Cobra, it started testing. Once they opened it I got in line, it was posted at 50 minutes although it only took about 20 minutes.... well, until the thunderstorms returned. I was only about five trains from getting on when they closed it again. But since most of the queue is inside and in the air conditioning we just waited it out. It ended up being an hour in down time. (But again, since every other ride was also closed. And we were inside, dry, it didnt make sense to leave) once the ride opened again we got right on it. It's pretty fun. Nothing spectacular but a much-needed Middle Ground ride in the park. The first drop is ok the reverse bank curve, because you're taking it slow feels better then what it looks... there's a couple of almost airtime moments... And some of the bottom of the drops have stronger G than you would think. The train practically stops on the block so the cars can reverse to go backwards. It kind of kills the flow but whatever... the backwards section is literally a helix and nothing more. But there is some almost airtime in the double down within the helix. Then comes the reverse lift, our car got stuck at the very top for a couple of minutes. After a warning about a sudden start we were treated with the really nasty gut punch as the ride accelerates you into the lab bar.... at the top the cars become unlocked and you do a series of three back to back 180 degree turns like a halfpipe, neither of my rides produced any real spinning but we got some fishtail action. The front car seems to be able to do 360s better. Although you get some stall like floater dropping backwards from these halfpipe turns.... and then the ride is over. After getting off I got back in line now posted at 40 minutes although it took less than 10 to get on got my second ride. I went back for a third but they announce that the ride will be closing again for thunderstorms so I left and got something to eat.
The queue for the ride is pretty spectacular, much like the Mummy queue at Universal. Mostly inside in the air conditioning well themed for Busch Gardens. The projection mapping while kind of corny is still pretty neat and at least they tried. There is also an enclosure with a few actual cobras in it within the queue. On the outside, the area surrounding the coaster was pretty nice. You can pretty much walk within the entire structure and it looks much better completed then when I saw it under construction.. uh, yeah.... credit?
