Blackpool Pleasure Beach |Wallace & Gromit Thrill-o-Matic

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach |Wallace & Gromit Thrill-o-Mati

I agree they should advertise this. I wouldn't even know about it if it weren't for CF. Especially down south, we don't really get adverts for the Pleasure Beach down here, and I think a lot of families don't realise what they're missing, I feel that the general consensus is that Blackpool is still just a silly old seaside place, many families won't have been there for years!

Having watched The Fabulous Baker Brothers go there this week for their Channel 4 show, there does seem to be a misconception about the place.

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach |Wallace & Gromit Thrill-o-Mati

There's no shortage of ad's in Blackpool itself but hardly any anywhere else.

Almost every billboard in Blackpool is Pleasure Beach.

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach |Wallace & Gromit Thrill-o-Mati

When is this due to open? I'm planning for May to take a trip up north to ride this and The Smiler (if it's built by then  )

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach |Wallace & Gromit Thrill-o-Mati

You won't see a lot of nation-wide marketing for this until it's opening and the holiday season hits. Up until that, it's pointless for them.

^ It's due to open in April.

It seems strange to me that they wouldn't go the whole hog and try and push the 'new' Pleasure Beach to us Southerners, especially with the recent drive to get British people to holiday at home, seems to me that places like this should branch their advertising out from JUST the promenade outside the attraction itself. I think it's a really good destination for family holidays, because as scummy as it can be it is a fun time whenever I go to Blackpool, and you've also got the zoo and things as well. I feel they're really missing a trick.

Also, lol giant Wallace and Gromit <3

There's a new Lancashire tourism company, and nationwide promotions like this are part of the plans but I'm not holding my breath for it happening any time soon.

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach |Wallace & Gromit Thrill-o-Mati

I love going to Blackpool. It's getting fresher and fresh through the year which I love. Pleasure Beach advertisement seems to be a bit low and I feel they need too show the park off. W&G is going to count as big investment compared to recent years so why not let it out. It may cost, but if people aren't knowing about this and spending tickets to go to Chessie, Alton and Thorpe, the park will loose the opportunity of a major drawer ride.

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach |Wallace & Gromit Thrill-o-Mati

See, this is what gets me. People thinking Blackpool is having a spruce up, no, Blackpool isn't, the promenade is, not the whole of Blackpool. Go a street back and you're still going to be wading through the **** and scum of society. As much as it's improving, it's not getting better anytime soon, we're gonna be waiting a while for it to be visibly a better town. The one thing that would have injected the much needed money into the council would have been the Casino project, but seen as that's never happening, the money needs to come from somewhere.

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach |Wallace & Gromit Thrill-o-Mati

To be fair, when I say Blackpool, I mean the promenade, and I suppose a lot of others do too.

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach |Wallace & Gromit Thrill-o-Mati

Even the promenade was **** tbh. Piers were woeful and full of abusive gypo's (I believe the official term is 'stallholders'), side paths were full of hawkers harassing you to play their sketchy dice games or card games from the hole in the wall.

From the Tower down to Sea Life (with Madame Tussauds and Coral Island in between) is the only 'nice' part of the prom. The differences along the rest are noticeably improved (sea defences are clean and make the area outside the hotels and near the tram stops pre-BPB look presentable) but as above go one street deep and it's just horrendously depressing. It's actually such a huge shock to the system to go from walkin along the promenade in day time, to going one street deep at dark and genuinely being worried for your safety. Probably an exaggeration but having to walk past the dodgiest working mens club I've ever passed to get back to the Travelodge coupled with getting some pointless abuse from some scummy characters literally just off the prom, I wasn't exactly rushing to book a return trip.

Haha I rip on it so much when given the chance but it really was a **** awful visit.

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach |Wallace & Gromit Thrill-o-Mati

Southern pansy

I know what you mean, but I guess because it's still considerably nicer and less threatening than where I grew up, I just don't really notice it :)

I really dislike the town end, it's just nasty, but the rest of it - I've always found it fine :)

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach |Wallace & Gromit Thrill-o-Mati

I completely agree with what Smithy said, apart from the Tower area. When I last went, the closer you got to the tower, the scummier it became.

The creepy people in trench coats wanting you to play a game in their house just completes it for me!

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach |Wallace & Gromit Thrill-o-Mati

Tbf the tower part itself was a dump but I gave it the benefit of the doubt because all of the cladding was temporary, and I enjoyed the comedy carpet.

But yeah, it's not the nicest of places I've visited.

The ride has been confirmed to open on Friday. And the store looks great with lots of merch (and some collectibles!)

However, Wallace and Gromit are on site!

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach |Wallace & Gromit Thrill-o-Mati

Friday! That was...unexpected. They really need to step up their marketing.

However they've already started hinting a new project thats going on around Infusion, so here's looking up. Looking forward to trying this next week then. Very nice surprise.

Re: Blackpool Pleasure Beach |Wallace & Gromit Thrill-o-Mati

Yeah, this seems to have come along all-of-a-sudden. Nick Park was on This Morning last week and the ride was an afterthought to the interview (though he seemed keen on it, he gave no impression it was ready).

BPB's facebook seems to mainly be going on about something in the Infusion water, as if that's a selling point.
