Best / Worst Themes

SFMM might not be the best at theming, but at least they try. Some parks just fail so miserably it hurts me to think.

I can't say a lot for themeing, since I've only done 6 or so parks. But, Batman at SFoG was pretty alright. Maverick would have been great...if they did it all...

Disaster Transport...died. My brothers had such fond memories of riding it with it's full theming. They loved it. But, now it's slowly disappearing and it seems they don't care about it anymore. Lights are left on, cool pieces are gone (WHERE THE HELL IS 1701 AND THE LASER?!), and the cool robots and voice is gone, too.

I'm waiting for a "Disaster Transport: Second Launch" here. And I'm most likely going to get so bored I'm going to draw it all up and just hand it to them. I mean, come on!

It's because I'm a fanboy probably, but expedition geforce. No one notices the theming because it's all very subtle. Just a jeep here and a barrel there. The cafe is meant to look like a temporary bamboo type camp, etc. It doesn't look much and probably didn't cost much, but subconciously it makes the area really feel like you're on an expedition. It's not theming for impact or immediacy like disney, it's more the atmosphere.

Other than that, oblivion, nemesis and most things in europa park.

Well I think that they tried and failed. I mean Scream over the Parking lot? Terminator (although themeing looks amazing, i think that there should be more of that themeing not just around the ride) X2 would have gone well next to Terminator IMO, kind of similar themes, with the whole High Tech thing going on. Golaith's theme seems out of place and bare.

The only part I found good was the Batman/Riddlers area.

^^I haven't ridden EGF, but come on. How can you possibly be trying to put into a "best theming" category? You said it yourself, "it doesn't look like much." That's because it isn't.

Oblivion has a hole in the ground. It's a great ride because of it, but that's not theming. Neither is that concrete/chicken wire station everyone keeps trying to fellate themselves over.

And the whole Tatsu/Ninja area?

Geforce I'm not saying it's awesomely themed and the best, it looks as if they've made a half assed attempt at theming it, but even so, it fits and I personally think it gives a great atmosphere. If they'd had a massive plastic volcano mid ride it just wouldn't have fitted in, it would have looked out of place and tacky.

Oblivion is themed! Not just chicken wire, but the whole area with the 'rehydrator', the red lights around the place, the machinery and stuff, the video's of the weird black and white dude...

Oblivion IS themed, very well infact. Theme does not have to be loud and in-your-face like a certain invert across the park to be good. Oblivion works just as well as Nemesis because the ride is themed to a secret government experiment crossed with a bit of 1984 and sci-fi, so the machinery, cameras, flashing lights and videos work very well. They are subtle but because of this it works because it feels natural as well as strong. You do not need a station shaped like a giant alien with a gun pointing at it and a huge hole with fake blood in it to have themeing, sometimes more subtle effects work just aswell. That isn't to say Nemesis' theme is poor for being loud, it's fantastic, one of the best in the world, but Oblivions much less obvious theme works just aswell, and the ride type works brilaintly with it, although the theme was around before the ride, back in 1992 when the first SW was planned, the theme seems to be built for the ride and the ride apears to have been there first with the theme based around it. The man in the video, and the videos themselves talk about the ride, and even specificaly mention it being a vertical drop ride, the whole theme is based on the ride, where as Nemesis could have been any type. Sorry for picking on Nemesis for this but it's a simple way of explaining my point because it is in the same park and it's theming is so famously good and strong.

I'm going to bend the rules a little here in choosing the best themed.
I reckon it could be a draw between Hurakan Condor and Templo del Fuego at PortAventura. The level of detail on both is amazing.

Worst however, has to be Rita.
It just doesn't make any sense.
