What's new

Best headchoppers, footchoppers, close encounters etc.

I've squelched up on a ride but I can't remember what and it's annoying me. Bizarros corner ditch thing I felt like I was going to scrape my finger across that wall, Millenium Force's tunnels always seemed too low as well.

Do the tunnels on Tutuki splash is the chewing gum Stalagtites count since they're really damn low?

Seriously? You guys actually hit supports? Hard to believe. Seems this would violate some sort of safety regulation. Unless you're going super slow while hitting them.

I've done it too... I think on RMT at Alton. It hurts like a bastard.

Bizarro at SFNE has been mentioned, but the only other real head chopper I remember where it's quite worrying is on The Ultimate. There's a tunnel there which is tiny.

I loved the close ground on Alpengeist, but I don't really class it as a foot chopper.

Actually, now that Im thinking on it, Batman at SFoG comes severely close to the ground exiting the Zero-G. By close, I mean I kicked rocks before pulling my feet up.

Yea...Georgia seems to not like the taller folk...

I almost got decapitated when leaning out of my seat on Odin Expressen at Tivoli Gardens! I think there are a lot of older rides where the clearance wouldn't meet todays standards. Also, as Jer wrote you can touch the branches of the trees when going on Boulder Dash. I remeber being hit a couple of times when I rode with my arms in the air.

I actually managed to lean out an hit some grass on the left side of Apollo at the start of the helix, helps having a 6'7" wingspan.

Some favs of mine would include the low beam on Gemini, the Beast's tunnel, Goliath (SFMM) tunnel, the various ones on Thunderhead, Phantoms Revenge/ Thunderbolts interaction and lastly, the turn on I-305 after that crosses under the final buckle has a very nice head chopper on the left side.

I hit my arm on a small branch on Scorpion at BGT a few years ago. It stung a little bit but it wasn't serious. There was also that time a few weeks ago I had my arms up on Matterhorn's lift hill and there is actually a part of the ceiling going up low enough to hit that way.

As far as headchoppers goes, I was putting my arms down quite a bit on GhostRider, so let's go with that.

It's not really a "chopper" as the term, to me anyway, implies some speed, but I've always found it quite disconcerting that you can touch the track above you, with minimal effort, when going up Blackpool's Wild Mouse lift hill.

Saying that, the whole ride is actually quite disconcerting.

Can't believe no-one has mentioned the Wild Mouse at Blackpool. Where you actually have to duck on the lift hill

On Grizzly at KD at the bottom of the first drop the side of the track right next to you is ridiculously close (I didn't try to touch it, for good reason). Space Mountain at WDW has lots of supports all around that are nice and close. Others are Apollos Chariot, Alpengeist, and really any coaster with a tunnel.

I always duck on PMBO when it cuts back under the lift hill by the south entrance to the park. It's not even close, I think it's just a combination of the speed, forces and part of the track.
This always springs to mind whenever I think of headchoppers. It's not my favourite but it's the one I'm most familiar with.

Boardwalk Bullet is by far my favourite. The way it dive around itself and under the numerous supports is amazing. Apparently it crosses under and over itself 42 times. The whole coaster is a spaghetti mess of wooden track and supports. It's fab.

Watch this video and you'll see what I mean. After the first drop, you're never more than 3 seconds away from a headchopper. 01:35 is heavenly.

Agreed. I LOVED BB.. as my Top 10 says.

^Or you just like wood...

;)

Plus you're missing Bizarro - there's only nine coasters in your signature.

Viper at 6FGAm, White Canyon and Aska all have one headchopper in common that I particularly like.

There's no airtime into it, and it's not super close, but it's a steel I-beam, pointed right at your head if you're on the left side of the train. Yikes, it's evil.

Oh, yeah. On Venus, in the lowest helices, you can easily touch the ground if you're on the low side of the train. I've grabbed handfuls of grass more than once.

I actually think Shambhala has some superb headchoppers; the Ampersand turn is fantastic for them, the track and supports are SO close to the exit of the element.
