As long as you film it to sell to Germany, whenever you like :p

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

Saw on TT someone on park today was told it'll definitely open tomorrow.
Feintest hope they may open it tomorrow evening if its a small problem as they knew it wouldn't be ready for the morning.

Doubt it mind, especially if they've been digging up pavements to get to electrics.

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

Nor would they risk the backlash for hanging date so close to opening.

Would edit that into above but phones playing up

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

If it doesn't open tomorrow, I can assume the whole of towers times will jump off a cliff

Anyway, i'm disappointed, but i'm sure if the delay is true, it's for a good reason.

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

There is always hope, we were told in Germany a coaster would be down all day and it did open for the last hour.

At least they have warned people, you just never know.

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

Peeps over on the Towers Street forums are saying that it's down to H&S. Wait and see I guess.

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

People over there also said it will drop backwards down the drop as a trick etc.

We have all seen the pictures of them working on supports at the top of the hill.

Maybe the problems only happened when they ran 2 trains.

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

If that was the case how could they have run it with people on the other night?

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

^ If its a private booking (ie press event) it's not classed as 'public' due to them being invited. Hence not having as strict deadlines on the H&S. There's a lot more to it then that, but that's the base of the thought process to it.

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

That explains that.

But come on they knew they were opening tomorrow so it should have been signed off before this.

Also if its the case why have they not got H&S there now?

People have said concrete is still being poured and the other bits of ground have been lifted?

I'm just not buying the H&S stuff tbh. Not even Merlin would leave that until now. Unless it failed the checks and that could be why they are busy laying more concrete etc.

Either way big **** up by them.

At least they are giving people a chance to rebook tickets and resort hotels for another day.

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

I can believe do h&s stuff, but the fact they were still adding safety railings on Sunday suggests to me the contractors were still behind and h&s just haven't arrived as quick as Alton hoped. If they had finished the work, they would gave been certified.

So if it does get signed off tomorrow you all might be lucky :)

Might save us a bit of time actually ;)

EDIT::

So does it seem as if it is a simple-of-a-problem as the fire exits? Ok, not necessarily 'simple' but it isn't 'chain lift snapped' is it XD fingers crossed for you guys :D

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

You really can't help but laugh, can you?

Why didn't they just softly open it, like Zufari?

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

second ultra-reliable source has confirmed The Smiler not opening due to H&S not being signed off yet. This source has confirmed that the ride will not open tomorrow, and all Smiler ride staff have been given the day off. There is a small chance it may open Friday, but that is very speculative.

Re: Alton Towers | The Smiler | Unknown Gerstlauer World's 1

And we thought the close of Saw on opening weekend was bad...

I'm at the park till sunday so hopefully it will get cleared and will open!
