What's new

Alton Towers iPhone app

Yeah. Like the Thorpe App it's fairly simple and there's nothing amazing about it. Just a park map and park info etc.

Queue times are going to be the only thing of real interest to me (and most enthusiasts I would have thought), so hopefully they have at least a hint of accuracy and are regularly updated.

I've had a play around with the app. Not bad really - it's what I expected. Aside from check queue times and refer to maps, there's not much else you can really do with a theme park app.

Car finder feature seems like a great idea, does anyone know how it directs you back or does it just show you where your car is a map?

Nice app though, I really like it. The coaster counter is neat but doesn't actually log what you've ridden just distance, height and Gs by the looks if it.

It's a nice little App just as "Face Your Nemesis" says above, there's not actually much that Theme park Apps can do that fit the theme and point of having them. They've got just about everything they need for a park app.

The find your car part seems to involve you zooming in on the car park and you placing a marker where your car is. Then you can refer to it at the end of the day.

All depends on how much signal I can get on my iPhone at Towers.

I get no 3G at most parks so all their apps are a waste of time for me, thank you O2. The best thing parks can do is provide free wi-fi.

Would that mess with the rides? It seems like a nooby question but using your phone can force ride ops to stop a ride, can't it?

Also, people would start bringing laptops to theme parks, leaving them in the cages at the ride stations, laptops would get stolen, theme parks would get a bad reputation.

The parks have wi-fi anyway but it's locked down.

People have 3g cards for their laptops but dont take them, who would want to walk round with a laptop all day?

All I was saying was if they have these apps they really want people to use them, so let everyone use them and provide wi-fi, which is there anyway. Or allow BT to setup their openzone service around the park and promote it and get some money for it.

AT could set up wi-fi points within the park. I can think of at least three good areas where such a feature would be most useful.
