What's new

Alton towers dead, (rumor or fact)?

Now I really cant wait to go in September with whoever I meet at Keele! Walk ok Nemesis, Air and even more unusually, Rita and Thirteen? Gimme gimme gimme!

Tis a fact, although these stories might just be Towers using the media as a bit of free advertising...

Only Towers has really been affected though... Thorpe and Chessie are still heaving...

I just can't believe so many hundreds of thousands of people have been put off going because of what happened.

Rumour, I went about 3 weeks ago and although not rammed, it was still relatively busy (10-20 minute queues). This was before the main school trip week as well.

It is partly true. I went the other week (the week after Welsh schools had broke up but I think English schools were still in) and for most of the day Nemesis, Air and Oblivion were walk on! There was a slight queue for Thirteen, Rita and Spinball but the busiest ride we went on was Octonauts!

Its a fact, look at this graph I have on my website showing the wait times for the weeks in the year (it shows a few weeks of last year as well)

As you can see, the accident happened in week 21, so the park was then closed for the rest of that week and partly for the week after. Following this, the waits have been drastically lower than they should have been, you can use week 20, which was the Easter holiday as a comparison.

This thread has shocked me that Blackpool Pleasure Beach hasn't aggressively tried to pinch punters.

Yeah ok, it is a bit true. I think the reduction in profits is due to the initial attendance problems after the crash, but any lack of people now might be due to the Smiler's closure? If you look on Facebook, the majority of the comments are asking about it opening, saying they want to ride it, or having a go at people saying otherwise.

Wonder whether these press releases will make people go because of the short queue times (like people have said here) or not. Some might take the opportunity but there has obviously been an overriding negative effect.

Yeah, no.

Which part?

Towers will see this as more helpful than negative, it cant possibly be the papers trying to be spiteful again and try to knock the big nasty businesses down can it?

It wouldn't surprise me if seeds of such a story were planted to push out to the public and say 'look we're empty, come visit!'

Both. They definitely do not want to put it out there that there that the park is dead. Any news is good news they say but I promise you Merlin are pissed that this story is out.

And I can't speak for Chessie but Thorpe is dead.

Hmmm something tells me that this is not the case where Thorpe is concerned. What would I know though right XD

Was there at chessington today the longest Queue was 80 minutes that was Vampire. Went thorpe on Thursday we queued 90 minutes for everything and Swarm and a few others went down, the only merlin park not affected is Legoland which is still busy eve during today's power surge.
