A list of reasons why Drayton is the worst park EVER - Aug 6

Strata Poster
Today I ventured on own to Drayton Manor – officially the worst theme park I have EVER been to.

Where do I start? Well, I’ll start with each reason why you should not visit Drayton:

1. The staff are rude, helpless, miserable and careless.
2. The rides are mediocre.
3. The park has no atmosphere whatsoever.
4. The queue lines are horrific for every single ride.
5. The rides seem to be just plonked her and there on concrete with no clear themes.
6. The park cannot deal with large crowds, as everywhere you go, you find it hard to move and the queues stretch far beyond the end of the constructed queue lines.
7. Did I mention the staff?
8. The food is of poor quality and is scarce s many of the catering facilities are closed.
9. The whole park needs a lick of paint – heck, it needs bucketfuls of it :P

With all that in mind, here are my reasons for visiting Drayton:

1. There are 4 credits.
2. Apocalypse is quite good.
3. Erm…yeah….

Cba to do a proper TR, but I will write some stuff about the rides I did do:

Apolcolype

I was expecting an amazing ride in Apocalypse, and I was surprised to see that it wasn’t as good as people say. Yes, it is the best ride there by far, and probably one of the best in the UK, however, it just wasn’t anything that made me say ‘wow’. I only did stand up and stand up floorless (6 times each) because sit down had a massive queue.

The most I queued for this was 10 mins, and by 5 o’clock, it was virtually walk on, and at one point, I was the only person in the station, and they weren’t allowed to let e ride with nobody else, but the only goo ride op of the day let me :P

Overall, 9/10

G-Force

The first ride I ventured to as I knew that it would have the longest queue by mid day. I was expecting uncomfortable, hard to breathe restraints; however, I found that they were fine with no faults. Heck, I even managed to get 2 inches from my waist as they were nice and loose.

The ride itself surprised me. I dunno what I was expecting, but somehow, I came off and thought ‘That’s as bad as it should be!’

Personally, I think this is the best coaster at Drayton, and I managed to sneak on again before I left.

A solid 7/10

Maelstrom

I ventured to this after G-Force both times, and was expecting a little more airtime on it, but overall, a good ride.

8/10

Shockwave

The worst ever queue line leads to an awful ride. I got back row, and I heard this was the best place to sit because of the zero-g roll, however, the whole ride was uncomfortable. The restraints were tough, uncomfortable and tight, and the ride was as rough as sandpaper, so much so, that I did not feel anything on the zero-g but pain.

Worst coaster in the park, 5/10

Stormforce 10

I got very, very wet on this! The whole ride was excellent, but the queue was massive. The backwards drop got me drenched as I was back row, and the drop out of the station had mega airtime.

A respectable 9/10

Troublesome Trucks

The things you do as an enthusiast…I stood in a queue for 10ish mins surrounded by toddlers, babies and mums and dads. I was so embarrassed. However, it allowed me to se the show that was happening in Thomas Land, which was really good :P

The coaster itself was fun, smooth, and a tiny pop of airtime on the s-bend, which is epic.

Second best coaster, but only a 5/10

Buffalo Coaster

I queued about 45 mins for this ride, and it was kind of worth it. The helix over the lake and the helix by Apocalypse were great, and the rest of the ride was meh.

Third best coaster, 5/10

Pandemonium

Does what it says on the tin. I was amusing the girl next to me by screaming ‘Ouch! My bollocks!’ at various points.

7/10

Excalibur

Martyn told me this ride was epic, thus, the only reason I went on it. It was awful.

4/10

Ride Count:
Apocalypse x12 (x6 Stand up, x6 Stand Up Floorless)
G-Force x2 (x1 Front Row)
Maelstrom x2
Shockwave x1
Stormforce x1
Pandemonium x1
Buffalo Coaster x1
Troublesome Trucks x1
Excalibur x1

My CC is now 58 :D

Thus concluded my TR :)

Go on a Sunday and you would have thought a lot differently. I love Drayton, it does have atmosphere, just not when it's packed, which is a shame.

I've never had a painful ride on Shockwave... :/. I don't see why everyone says it's rough?

At least you got a decent ride count on the day and you seemed to enjoy some of the rides with the high ratings you gave them. Pitty about all the other negative factors though.

The best thing to do is to stay in Thomasland because it feels like you are in a totally different park.

I'm obliged to ask how a park you said had two rides that are 9/10 & a ride you rated 8/10 can be the worst park you've ever experienced?

Despite the fact you pointed out why, I've seen a lot worse!

I did not like any of the rides so my reasons were a bit different.

But thick dust and hundreds of dead flies in the Shockwave queue line was bad.

It will take a lot for me to ever go back there.

I seem to be one of the lucky few who's never had a bad day at the park...

Hell, 5 of your points can be directly applied to Thorpe ;)

And I think it does have an atmosphere, especially in Thomasland, and it has a half decent zoo as well with Meerkats, hence it gains bonus points for that...

I'm not suprised you had an uncomfortable time on Shockwave, as all Stand-ups are like that, they are a bad gimmick, yet credits are credits...

I'm upset you didn't do Haunting, now if you thought Excalibur was epically bad then you really needed to experience the wonder of Haunting

You also didn't do a lot of the flats and dark rides as well... So you didn't even do Pirate Adventure, the awesome Pirate Ship, Golden Nuggets and Drunken Barrels...

So yeah, bloody good ride count if it was busy as you say...

I'm going on Sunday, I'm expecting poor staff, but to have a great day.

The difference? I'm going with the family to have a fun family day out.

Okay, I love Maelstrom, Pandemonium and Shockwave - but as a park to go to with a family, it's superb.

I like it with the family, and with childish friends (I've enjoyed all the CF trips there). I like parks that are a bit crap - it makes them fun. Chuff Nuggets, Bat on a stick and Pilates of the Copyright are truly dreadful to the point of being excellent. It's charming in its way and means that the day is full of giggles and silliness.

However, having gone as a person "looking for thrills" (ie pre enthusiast days), I thought the place was a dogs dinner. There's not enough, not good enough and it's just so tatty. I'd certainly not go there to show off the UK's top thrill rides and park experience. There's a certain mindset I think that gets it.

Food is poor (I like fish and chips there though, but the service is abysmal), staff are rude and irritating and the place is so exceptionally unkempt it's untrue.

Still, I love it - but I can understand the opinion of those who don't :)

Drayton is more than a mediocre park.... An average park wouldn't have rides above the rating of 5..... and you've rated some 7 and above.

The rides in my opinion are good, some a great, can't complain about the price, its one of the cheaper bigger parks which i guess kind of makes up for some of its downfalls in a way. The thing that lets the park down is just its customer services, by this i mean staff, food and the general look of the place.

I would have, but it was rammed with kids :P

It's not all about the rides though. To me, the rides are seconded to the overall feel of the park. You could go a park with amazing rides and it still be an awful park due to the fact it is run down, full of litter and has unfriendly staff.

I seriously couldn't be arsed :P

I don't think Drayton is run down really, Thomasland is a lovely place for kids and the park seems fairly quaint. Staff might be an issue, but the park isn't the worst kept I've seen in the UK { Camelot, M&D's, PBB, Fantasy Island}

The problem with Drayton is consistency. Some parts (the new stuff) is really nice and sparkly and excellent.

The old stuff though is an issue as they just don't clean, tidy or paint any of the older bits and bobs. Shockwave (especially the queue) is disgusting for instance.

^yep and sorry to say this is what I remember from my 1st and only visit.

People who were at the live that day last year will remember how bad the park was. I know they were busy etc but that dirt looked as if it had been there for years.

The park did not leave a good first impression on me at all, but people who have been going for years seemed shocked.
