There is a psychological thing by some guy (I forgot the name he gave for it...and his name for the matter) who found that if you give a middle value option, such as the one described above, people would be more inclined to click it if they didn't understand the question or they feared social desirability would go against them (for example, in the case of asking if you would kill somebody with a ranked score of 1 to 5 - people would be more inclined to put 3 as it is a "safe" option).

Therefore, when conducting surveys, it is best advised not to have a "safe" middle option, though I agree that in certain questions I do feel in between.

(and they should REALLY go into Advertisements, but if I'm honest, I popped it in here as Rach put hers here and got a good response...and I kinda need as many results as possible :p)
