Would also be interested to know what the driving options for the park are. Tempted to hire a car regardless, for general use over the weekend as well as the park, but not sure if it's worth the effort driving to the park versus the public transport (metro+shuttle) option.

From what I can gather, the metro stops running at ~midnight? Was this an issue if you were in the park until closing? Especially on the days when the park is open until 1am? Do the shuttles still run that late too? How did you get on with this @uwurawrus?

If parking, what's the deal? Is parking free, and convenient (or is there a car park shuttle required also)? Perhaps @HeartlineCoaster can share some experience?

Not phased much about driving in Saudi - just don't want to get stuck in a load of unnecessary logistical hassle.

Honestly, the last thing I'd do is drive in Saudi. Found it absolutely terrifying as a passenger in a cab when I visited for work in 2024, let alone being in control of the vehicle itself. Makes any big city driving i.e London/New York/LA seem tame. I don't have the stones to hire a car out there, even with insurance in place... not that it'll deter me from visiting later on this year

Am I gathering from this thread correctly that at this park you can't park directly outside the park itself or be taken directly to a gate, instead you always have to take a shuttle bus at one point entering/exiting the park? Interesting. I wonder why that is?

Metro stops running at midnight. I got on a bus to Jeddah Road at about 2; I believe they run past the advertised time to clear the area. Taxis are plentiful all around Riyadh even late into the night. It's a nighttime city thanks to the weather. One day I got a Uber at 4am after spending the night at blvd city.

Car parking is free I believe but from there/the taxi drop-off you need to wait in a massive queue to get onto the park bus. I highly recommend aiming for the first bus from Jeddah Road. Were the first ones in the car park/drop off area and went straight onto a bus to SFQ.

I hired a car and wouldn't recommend it. Driving in Saudi in unpleasant to say the least, and I have over 20 years driving experience.

There is no courtesy, no one indicates, if you indicate people intentionally move to block you, people drift across lanes and roads have very poorly marked lanes that appear and disappear at random.

Paying was easy at the park though, and it did prove useful having a car when I left the park very late for to a falcon breakdown.

Free parking, with a 5-10min shuttle. There's no other way in as you're parking in the middle of the much larger resort still under construction, at a transport hub and welcome centre. As of opening, there were swarms of proper seated coaches available at all times of operation.

The driving itself isn't for the faint of heart as mentioned, and I did literally get crashed into on the highway, but didn't have any courtesy issues. It's more just that sense of 'no one is very good at this, but we're making the best of it', like you get in a lot of countries and just have to adapt to.

Scarier part for me is the car hire companies themselves, though it went without hitch in the end. Book with someone you trust, with an appropriate level of insurance, and have the confidence to question any part of the process.

If solo, and only really doing SF, I'd probably second guess it. An extra pair of eyes and some moral support goes a long way though and with any plans to do other stuff in city, creds or otherwise, I'll always rate the freedom of a car. All the malls were free parking, only Boulevard City charge.
