Dutch Credding - Part 4: Slag whoring and other whoring

So earlier this year, I got out of debt for the first time in about 8 years, so I could afford to finally treat myself to some European cred visits. Because I work shifts, it's a bit of a logistical battle to find the time to go away, and go away somewhere when there are theme parks open. So after doing my research and nabbing some cheap flights, I booked a few trips. The first of which was a two night jaunt over to the Netherlands to visit some small Dutch parks I hadn't been to yet.

Last night I flew out to Amsterdam, and the trip got off to a bad start. Despite doing loads of these trips before, Silly Bollocks here left the paper counterpart of his driving license at home, which normally would be game over. However, at the rental desk I got chatting to the cute girl behind the desk, and wooed my way aroud this potential balls-up. Note: this does not work for everyone, so the simple solution is DON'T LEAVE HALF YOUR LICENSE AT HOME.

After an hour or so's drive in the dark, I arrived at my hotel, picked up my keys and slept. After a good night's sleep I hit the breakfast bar and went to the first park of my trip, Avonturepark Hellendoorn. The park was a 1 minute drive from my hotel, and I got there just in time to see half of the primary schools in Holland pile out of the coach park.

One undignified run later, I got the ticket booth before the masses, paid in and hit the creds.

First one was Donderstenen. A Zierer Force 2, kinda their version of a Vekoma Rollerskater. I think it's themed to boulders. +1.

10374021_10154220859445437_846711728909335726_n.jpg

Speaking of which, just round the corner was an actual Roller Skater. It's themed to a sewer rat like Lightwater Valley's Schwarzkopf used to be. Except the queue is a lot darker and smokier.

10171642_10154220857280437_8553899088380412842_n.jpg

After some RCDBing I found out it replaced the old flitzer ride of the same name that used to occupy the building, and is customised to fit the space.

It's mostly pitch black, apart from one outdoor bit that lasts about a second. +1.

10382972_10154220885300437_2562975353569103668_n.jpg

I forgot to take a picture of the train, so here's the Uitgang hole instead.

Near the first two creds, I saw this building. Had no idea what was in it so I had a look.

10300627_10154220858580437_7773221673009975544_n.jpg

Turns out it was a shooting ride with nicely themed spinning cars.

10390492_10154220857875437_7389752563550688716_n.jpg

After failing miserably at shooting the LEDs, I walked over the Vekoma Tornado to try and survive it.

10177528_10154220861125437_7673138245905857728_n.jpg

I love it when parks name their rides after the manufacturer's ride name.

10349887_10154220866745437_2745270505739113156_n.jpg

It was much better than the awful, awful one of these at Tusenfryd. +1. -0 testes.

By now the crowds were getting obscene, so I did me some photo-taking. There's lots of cool things for 9 year olds (physical and mental age) to try.

The rapids was getting people through quick, so I obliged.

10421986_10154220859955437_4228604406215878699_n.jpg

There's not much actual rapid action, but there is a waterfall.

10341424_10154220878000437_4315142009353187414_n.jpg

And this amazing 'never in Britain or USA' queue line.

10414413_10154220878595437_5061752564114573803_n.jpg

You can pretty much touch the boats as they go by. Not that you would, because that's how stupid people end up suing theme parks.

10365809_10154220880345437_7507715812076024787_n.jpg

Station looks nice. As did the whole park.

1510370_10154220881600437_6257102211499986088_n.jpg

There's also a fab rainbow tunnel of mist at the end, but you'll have to use your imagination witth that one.

After not losing a limb or dying because I must have some sensible European blood in me, I went on the plastic animatronic boat ride. There's a hippo.

10403707_10154220883060437_6198817241361323301_n.jpg

A snake.

10414477_10154220883620437_8835005135439725698_n.jpg

A tarantula.

10258040_10154220883920437_962067137819571363_n.jpg

And a mammoth or something in the tunnel. But since it was out of time, I can't be sure. So here's a plastic croc instead.

10363817_10154220885010437_8482240997756233891_n.jpg

With most the school groups now going for lunch, I left the plastics to ride the log flume, with a much shorter queue than earlier in the day to satisfy the inner Bloomfield in me.

There's a drop. With a monorail going across it.

10259702_10154221120825437_3231968507728798170_n.jpg

And a lift hill obvs.

10390401_10154221121420437_4269784604185894977_n.jpg

And then, near the front of the queue, one of the boats got stuck.

If this happened in a UK or US, the staff would **** a brick, hand out hi-vis jackets and close the ride for the rest of the day while they evacuate it, investigate what went wrong and fill in 600 health and safety forms.

But because this is Holland, and people are intelligent, the ride op asks a few of the kids in queue to help free up the boat.

10336818_10154220890385437_6012942543524963636_n.jpg

About a minute later, they had pushed the boats through. No one had to wear a hard hat or climbing gear to fix it.

10351688_10154220890000437_6629436155518346874_n.jpg

After no-one died or got maimed, I went on the ride and got a bit wet.

10308889_10154220892150437_3721246215026093251_n.jpg

After that, I was pretty much done, so headed to buy some tat for a CF Faffle in the near future, and then went to the car.

10277071_10154220891685437_5628812446096244152_n.jpg

Hellendoorn is a lovely little park with something for most of the family. Was pleasantly surprised to have spent a couple of hours there before Park 2 of the day.

Part 2 - De Waarbeek

After +3 at Hellendoorn, I drove 30 minutes to the next park of the day. It's full name is Familiepretpark De Waarbeek.

10307170_10154220700475437_6443262841565458150_n.jpg

After you pay in, the first thing you see is where a CF Mega Blok war would break out.

10274336_10154220700710437_3071005857884089959_n.jpg

Once in the park proper, the roller coaster is immediately on your right.

10382974_10154220706720437_5788217950095692405_n.jpg

It looks home made because the park built it themselves many years ago. This might be Holland's oldest cred. And it comes complete with traffic light porn for Ian.

10365799_10154220706470437_1353985129658483643_n.jpg

It has lots of dips, a tiny amount of airtime and a fab stop at the end.

10373774_10154220706225437_2504384887709246313_n.jpg

From the bridge over the track, you can see the main park area.

10398074_10154220705525437_4776333622531123405_n.jpg

There's lots of old school flat rides like this.

1014327_10154220704655437_3336350603414858050_n.jpg

And this.

10308351_10154220703635437_5703887868717820488_n.jpg

And a Caterpillar like Southport Pleasureland used to have, before Amanda hired some JCBs.

10410426_10154220704275437_5870110750788960222_n.jpg

And a duck ride that you operate yourself.

10404484_10154220703995437_385760464421057679_n.jpg

At this point I was quite peckish, so I got some chips, frikandel and a can of Pepsi with a footballer on it whose team is now crap.

If you count these you are dirtier than Lindsay Lohan on a bender.

10325169_10154220702300437_1226971055051926343_n.jpg

Or Christina Aguilera's underwear after a curry the night before.

10367586_10154220702735437_2562943565206436207_n.jpg

No one fell in to the lake on the self-operated chairlift because we are in Holland.

984109_10154220701290437_2748846253709300716_n.jpg

After about 45 minutes in the park, it started chucking it down and most of the stuff without a roof on it closed.

De Waarbeek is a very quaint little park with some quirky rides. But not enough to keep you there more than an hour or so. And with my +1 sorted, I left for the last park of the day.

Tom, there aren't enough pictures of your dinner for my liking. You should be on a ratio of 6 pictures of food to 1 picture of Rollercoasters. If I wanted pictures of creds I'd go on a Rollercoaster enthusiasts website...

On a serious note, good report. We need more of these reports over Chessington/Thorpe PTR's. I find these smaller lesser known parks to be of much more interest than the usual UK Merlin ****. Saying that, I think everyone has worked out on this site that Thorpe and Chessington PTR's are out of date and should only be written with LOLZ involved. Keep up the good work, Tom. I'm looking forward to the next instalment.

Nice reports. Hellendoorn is a very nice small park, one of the best the country has to offer. I prefer it over Walibi and Toverland for sure. I never done the boat ride (It was closed on both of my visites for maintenance), but I believe that is a Scorpion and not a Tarantula :D.

De Waarbeek is nice to. Love all those old rides. Rodelbaan is the second oldest steel coaster in the world still operating (older than Mattherhorn bobsleds), so you're right, it is the oldest coaster of the Netherlands.

^I actually enjoy PTR's of parks in Brittain to. There are people from all over the world on this forum, and like many others In don't visit these parks every year, so I think it is nice reading these to.

My grumble is more about regular visitors to Thorpe and CWOA who constantly write PTR's for their trips. It clogs up the trip reports and has the tendency to overshadow PTR's like this. I DO enjoy Merlin reports from new visitors to the parks, I like to see their newly formed opinions etc. but when I see a regular member post YET ANOTHER Merlin trip report it leaves me thinking "For **** sake! I read your opinion on that ride just last month and it still hasn't **** changed!". However, if it's Merlin PTR's you enjoy then by all means have a scroll through the past 20 pages of trip reports, there are hundreds of the bastards!

Sorry to spam your PTR, Tom. I'll shut up now!

Part 3: Plopsa Indoor Coevorden

As the rain got heavier, I was very grateful that my last park today would be indoors. On the way there, I turned the fans on to full to dry myself out, and listened to Sky Radio blasting out Roxette, Mr Mister, Katy Perry and adverts for Europa Park. The goon in me went 'oooh'.

For those who don't know, the Plopsa theme parks are all themed to characters created by a Belgian production company called Studio 100, and all their big characters appear in some form at the park. By this time my iPhone was slightly damp as, so that's why some of the pictures are fuzzy. You'll have to get over that.

Here is the entrance. Needs more N-Trance.

Mega Mindy is another character in the Studio 100 World. According to her Wikipedia page, "Mega Mindy has several superhero powers. she can breathe fire and has the ability to lift tents without touching anything."

I'll end this report with a picture of some good theme park tat.

I try to buy weird theme park music when I get the chance. K3 are a girl group owned by Studio 100. After a bit of Wikipedia surfing, I found out they have been around for about 15 years, and are massive in Europe. I was going to give the CD to Ian for a CF Faffle, but quite frankly, I'm keeping this one.

10363702_10154224897780437_1793041859298149292_n.jpg

I'll get another one for a faffle when I go to Plopsland De Panne in June.

And this is for you, Darren. It's only my starter for the hotel dinner I had, sadly I was too drunk to remember the main course. Disgraceful.

Yay for Belgian pride. Mega Mindy breaths fire? I saw a few episodes, but I'm pretty sure she can't do that :D.

Again a nice report, I think Coevorden is the best themed of the 5 Plopsa parks. And Anubis is amazing! How long did you stay in the park?

The Plopsa indoor parks have always looked nice, they are on my list of places to go.

Lol at the K3 cd, I couldn't believe how well they went down at the Christmas meet. At De Panne they have a discount store where they always have like 50% off the cds, only open for a few hours though in the afternoon. Happy hunting ;)

The fire breathing quote was taken from Wikipedia, so I wouldn't take it as gospel. She cold probably lift a tent though.

I was only in the park for just over an hour, but that was enough to do everything I wanted.

Re: Dutch Credding - Part 4: Slag whoring and cred whoring

Part 4 - Soaking wet Slag whoring and cred whoring

Today was the last day of the trip before flying home. And it was wet. Really wet. So a lot of the photos are rubbish because I took them from under cover spots so as not to ruin my phone.

Slagharen is a big resort with a theme park and holiday homes. It sort of reminds me a bit of Flamingoland, except with less rollercoasters, much nicer and completely themed to the Wild West.

I booked and printed my tickets online before I went, to save a few Euros, which as it turned out was well worth doing given how bad the weather was. The park was very quiet, not nearly as many school groups as yesterday.

First ride was the Vekoma Rollerskater. +1.

10403363_10154224811515437_2640595599937663596_n.jpg

There's a drop tower, but no way was I doing this in sideways rain.

1512825_10154224811260437_1828701707087451595_n.jpg

SPITED. Stupid rain meant it wasn't open.

But the ride team soon started doing their inspections as the rain eased off a bit, so I lived in hope.

10409043_10154224812295437_5665300111381074107_n.jpg

Whilst that was happening, I wandered for a smoke and took this uninteresting picture of some parasols.

10334257_10154224811820437_2603246624386621012_n.jpg

After that, I took a wander and found a few rides from the 80's in the nostalgia corner of the park. There's a Huss Condor.

10312564_10154224811970437_8817256011686539991_n.jpg

A pile of ****.

10297617_10154224812650437_3380670700883543073_n.jpg

And a troika, I think.

10306550_10154224813040437_4254065719680650229_n.jpg

And the piece de resistance of 80's nostalgia corner was of course, the Schwarzkopf Looping Star.

10370373_10154224813530437_1642142376875202403_n.jpg

And then it stopped being spiteful!

10428469_10154224815145437_4685479470572430402_n.jpg

It's not my favourite Schwarz, but it's still a piece of coaster history, so was nice to be able to ride it.

10418370_10154224815450437_6272750654451167653_n.jpg

After the nostalgia cred, I went for a walk down the main street.

10250071_10154224812200437_5265299544161422905_n.jpg

It has an arcade where you can win things.

10177282_10154224816205437_3337493459204270726_n.jpg

But I didn't wake up in a new Bugatti.

A shave is 50 cents. Men or women,

10313794_10154224816020437_150703478013527363_n.jpg

Some 90's nostalgia.

10414628_10154224816455437_4377418548988091172_n.jpg

Party waffels in the house tonight.

10320404_10154224816680437_6889606121588973569_n.jpg

Oh I wish I was...

10312055_10154224816865437_901689185878198627_n.jpg

But it was shut. So I found some Amanda porn.

10382980_10154224817025437_7901125519402498680_n.jpg

Another classic flat ride. I think it's a Schwarz.

10394836_10154224817120437_7855051825667155129_n.jpg

There's a log flume that I didn't ride, as I was wet enough already. Sorry Darren.

10352585_10154224817520437_7272785532442714301_n.jpg

You can just about make out it's called Ripsaw Falls. And the big Schwarzkopf chairswing behind it.

10341946_10154224817665437_4458991591107896988_n.jpg

After not riding the log flume, I went on the big wheel ride. Which is actually the observation tower. Not the big wheel. Go figure,

10303291_10154224838520437_4015401763232413978_n.jpg

Oh yeah, it was really wet now. There's a Schwarzkopf cred out there somewhere.

1959313_10154224838720437_3425725197818437521_n.jpg

Lots of wet chalets.

10345758_10154224838870437_972052203066279876_n.jpg

The other wet side of the park.

10417457_10154224839180437_4732629360853065350_n.jpg

I don't normally take selfies, but when I do, I'm **** soaked.

10295721_10154224838920437_8780057863526872262_n.jpg

As this point I decided I was wet enough. So I left to turn the heat on in my car to full blast and go whore some more creds elsewhere.

10408875_10154224839585437_236211469239440060_n.jpg

I think this bus was lost.

1525450_10154224839745437_5488171124986691478_n.jpg

Next stop was Speelstad Oranje. A big kids play center next to a canal in a field in Holland.

10341962_10154224851130437_3241558327202134214_n.jpg

At the pay desk, I asked if the cred was open in my broken Dutch and with an RCDB picture of it on my iPhone. After they realised I was just there to ride the cred and leave, they kindly said I could come in for free! This makes the park automatically better than any other kids play centre, all the Gullivers parks and Twinlakes.

10407420_10154224849655437_6519461609727982001_n.jpg

This must be about my millionth Wacky Worm / Big Apple ride. +1.

10353124_10154224849805437_866967560588783455_n.jpg

The rest of the park is really cool if you're about 9 years old. They have bumper boats.

10382456_10154224850085437_127799801377368326_n.jpg

Electric kiddy car things.

10262252_10154224850295437_908038976847210185_n.jpg

A mini pile of ****.

10325755_10154224850470437_4897028313900550917_n.jpg

And a suspended monorail.

1622204_10154224850670437_4814885258166586450_n.jpg

Overall, a really nice place for kids and some very understanding staff if you're a goon.

Next stop was Duinen Zathe. By now it was pissing it down so that's why I'm standing in a shelter takign a photo of the park sign.

10407294_10154224852505437_4012946611284965574_n.jpg

And the for the second time in the space of an hour, the nice people who work there said I could come in, ride the roller coaster and leave! Also better than Twinlakes and Gullivers.

It's quite a nice place, there's a massive Pirate Ship out the back through the main building.

10300987_10154224851930437_1420548713120351103_n.jpg

And a +1. Which I got 5 laps on because the stupid brakes wouldn't work as it was raining so hard.

10336632_10154224851305437_8276582960318804873_n.jpg

Rest the park has some flat rides. Like this one.

10406901_10154224851430437_8575445403292112657_n.jpg

And this,

10414393_10154224851530437_8424048041284005600_n.jpg

And a subliminal IKEA sponsored playground section.

10429503_10154224851780437_5829436251509170953_n.jpg

The main building has some chandelier and a stage. After stopping to get out of the rain, I headed on to my last park of the day.

10259759_10154224852310437_3984244875628112375_n.jpg

By now, the wipers on the car were on full blast, and on the way to my last park, Drouwenerzand, I was expecting almost nothing to be open. Especially the cred. And I was right. Luckily, the staff told me at the gate when I asked, and said I was OK to look around without paying.

10338242_10154224852650437_8839246802018539948_n.jpg

There are some other rides, but it's mostly a fairground. And now I needed to change clothes. So it was back to the car and full blast heating, and on to Amsterdam Airport for my flight home.

10426909_10154224852820437_3410212540220447184_n.jpg

Because the traffic was so bad, I stopped off at a nice restaurant near Naarden and had some Satay and fries for dinner.

10367561_10154224852980437_831828359365618940_n.jpg

And after filling up the car, dropping it off, it was time to head home.

Honestly thought it would been a total washout, but I got 9 out of 10 coasters done despite the bad weather, and it really wouldn't have been safe to run the last cred in the rain. That's now bad it got.

Slagharen is to the Dutch theme park enthousiasts what Flamingo Land is for the UK fans. They hate it, and as a Belgian who visited the park 3 times, I can't blame them, the park gets crowded very quickly.

Speelstad Oranje has the smoothest Big Apple ever! That transition after the drop <3. There is also a Ghost castle ride on the first or second floor which is really funny because it sucks so hard.

Duinen Zathe is one of the most unsafe-feeling parks I have ever visited. Many rides continued operating without ride ops, and the rides all look like they haven't seen the mainenance team in over ten years. Drouwenerzand is nice, they have free unlimited food, didn't you try it? Shame the cred wasn't open, but it is really bad and boring (it sure doesn't spin).

Thanks for the nice reports!
