Would you have theme park related music at your funeral?

Howie

Donkey in a hat
Picture the scene:
We cremated my Nan earlier this week (don't worry, she had died. We checked).
And there we were at the service, y'know, nice eulogy, a prayer, few hymns and all that, and then, as the curtains begin to draw around the coffin, what did they choose to play her out with?
Yes you guessed it - 'In the Hall of the Mountain King', otherwise known as the Alton Towers theme tune!
Nothing to do with the theme park of course - she was 101, probably didn't even know what Alton Towers was - turns out she was just a bit of a Grieg fan.

Well, you can imagine it can't you? Some people wiped away a tear. Others smiled knowingly as they remembered the old girl in her prime. Me and Mrs Howie were desperately trying not to pish ourselves laughing as we pictured her queueing up for The Smiler! So, my first question is; am I a horrible person??

And secondly, this does beg the question, would YOU have theme park related music played at your big send-off? If so, what?

This is absolutely amazing!

Personally I wouldn't, but omg Hall of the Mountain King at your funeral?! Epic.

I guess you could stretch a case a little for me too. It's a bit of a stretch, though:

You know the ride "Il Tempo Extra Gigante" that opened last year at Hunderfossen in Norway? The one with the coolest train ever. It's themed to a well-known Norwegian movie, and one of the most well-known pieces of music from that movie was played at my grandmother's funeral a couple of years ago.

I couldn't find the original music from the film alone, but here's the scene it's played in from the Danish dub of the movie:

Sounded very nice on the organ. Tears were shed.

What about the Haunted Mansion? "Grim grinning ghosts come out to socialize."

Maybe the soundtrack to bizzaro at SFNE? just as the curtains close and the flames hit it could reach the line "come my friends, tis not too late to seek a newer world!", same as just when you crest the lift hill.....

I do love the wild mouse song at Dorney too, but I've never been able to find a recording of it.

The Colossus (Thorpe Park) music will always have a place in my head and heart, I'd quite like that tune.

Tbh, I'd rather have Jim Carter read my eulogy in his Hex voice finishing with "And on the night of <insert date, which I hope is at least a lifetime away>, Ian suddenly, and mysteriously, died."

Ha ha! That's brilliant!
Continue it with; "But the story didn't end there...", and you could potentially have a lot of fun! Mwu ha haaa..

I actually wanted to be green cremated and be scattered from Millennium Force back when it was my number one! I had always envisioned my family all gathered in the station, nothing fancy, saying a few words over the intercom with that awesome music playing softly in the background before everybody grabbed a little goon shot glass of ashes, strapped in, dispatched the train and let it fly. XD

Unfortunately, this is not allowed, probably because it's really **** disgusting when you think about it. My girlfriend said that people scattering ashes from rides was actually a major problem when she worked at Disney. So while I don't get to go all out anymore and it'll probably end up being somewhere basic, I still want that song played as everybody's coming in. Millennium's theme music is playing at my funeral, though. That's for sure.

If someone got buried to this I'm defo hum along.

I couldn't give a s**t; I'll be dead. Dispose of the corpse as cheaply and easily as possible. No need for any fanfare and ludicrous amounts of cash to be spent.

I'd have to agree with gavin haha. I love how people plan their funerals as if they're going to be around to see it.
