Welcome to the first NoLimits Coaster competition of 2010. This time the coaster designers at CoasterForce have been challenged to design a big GCI wooden coaster for a small unknown park in northern China that is eager to face the competition of these new big corporate parks that are popping up everywhere. The park board decided that getting a wooden coaster would be the best way to get maximum media exposure and create the influx of new customers that they want, especially since the opening of FireBall have thrown China into a wooden coaster craze. The park have some requirements about the ride, which are posted below...

Competition Rules:
  • You (singular) have to use the track-file supplied with this post.
  • The track must be safe and efficient.
  • You may only use programs/tools that were included in the NoLimits Coaster package purchased at www.nolimitscoaster.com and any 3Ds objects you like to aid your building.
  • Send your finished track to: CFNLjudges@gmail.com
  • Don't post anything that shows/hints your design, so that a fair Riders Choice vote can be held.
  • You have until the 4:th of April 2010 23:59 GMT to send in your track.
Design Requirements:
  • Coaster type GCI.
  • Nothing may be built inside the red boundaries or above the blue boundary.
  • Station must be inside pink boundary.
  • 1 Lift hill.
  • No "Transport Devices" are allowed (i.e. no kicker wheels/lims).
  • Minimum speed between the "first" drop to the final brakes is 45 km/h (28 mph)
  • Must be over 1525 m (about 5000 ft) long.
Scoring:
  • Construction quality 15 points
  • Excitement 15 points
  • Originality 10 points
  • Safety 10 points
Maximum of 50 points.
The winner will be decided by the combined score of the Judges (Max 50+50=100 points) and a Riders Choice Voting (Max 50 points).

Questions should be asked here in this topic (preferred), PM:ed to us to or mailed to CFNLjudges@gmail.com

I'll take a whack at it. When we post our screens, can we show teasers like what Crazy Coaster did with Project Ribbon?

No.

Simple. No pictures, teasers, even comments on the ride. We'll pick the thumbnails and sort out releasing the tracks.

Did you really have to make this one about the hardest coaster style to replicate? Let alone make it over 5000ft. minimum length? AND have a minimum speed of 28 mph from the first drop to final brake run?

No sir, that's not a GCI at all. Maybee a CCI or GG (with the new train style), but not GCI.

A "big" GCI would be over 3200ft. long. Longest GCI listed on RCDB is unknown at Knight Valley at a predicted 4817ft.

Note: It's a challenge. If it was easy it wouldn't be a challenge.

Also I'm in.

^Might want to check your wording on that one ;)

If it were a challenge, it'd be to create a realistic GCI within a confined space with a set max height, speed, force, and possibly even layout length ;)

I'll quote the great UC right now...

Xpress, your logic is flawed.

I must say, that was pretty fast between discussing competitions and releasing one. I'm definitely in.

^Stop being a twat. They are the rules, you'll stick to them. I don't know why GCI couldn't suddenly come out with a coaster like this, so it's a decent comp and a good challenge.

It's really nice to see that there is some influx of competitors to this, it seems like the turnout might be better than I thought.

Ahhh, sorry that I didn't make the competition so that it fit your specifications... :( Maybe you should make a Competition for yourself so that you can decide exactly what it's about and that you should be sure to win instead of whining about it...

It also looks like you didn't read the whole thing through :)

The Park wanted those specifications...

My last coaster was a GCI but what the heck, I'm in. Also I have a question, will you be marked down for using auto supporter? Or are we expected to custom support? As seeing as it is over 5000ft and a month to complete it, we can use auto supporter?

There is 2 answers to it:

1. Read the rules (especially the 3:rd point).

2. I depends really, if you want to do it by hand then it's fine by me :)

I would say that terrain and auto supporter don't work that well hand in hand (specifically the "wide support" part), so feel free to add bracing and whatever you like...
