What is the best seat on these certain coasters?

Edward M

Strata Poster
I am going to four parks this year: Alton Towers, Silver Dollar City, Worlds of Fun, and Dixie Landin. Don't care that much about Dixie but the three others I look very forward to the others! A seat changes the whole experience of a ride. So I would like to know what the seat on these rides are.

Alton Towers
Nemesis
Air
Rita
Thirteen
Oblivion

Silver Dollar City
Outlaw Run
Powder Keg
Wildfire

Worlds of Fun
Prowler

Just Curious. I can't help myself, I do want to know what the best seat on these rides are. Feel free to answer or not.

This is probably 4 pages long but I mainly want to know the first set. The second set is an answer or not.

It all really depends on what you like. Some rides have less forces but a fantastic view (Patriot) while others are less about the view and more about the epic airtime (Outlaw, Prowler).

I find B&M's ride best at the back so for Montu, Kumba and Nemesis I would recommend the back row. I would also recommend the back row for Th13teen.

For those i've been on my preference is and i have strong opinion about

The front is almost always better on every ride.
Nothing beats the feeling of seeing the track go by in front of you!

I'd add that for nemesis - do the front for the view, and the back (preferably outside seat) for the delicious intensity!

Rita is a bit smoother towards the front.

Agreed with CD.

Nemesis your first go should always be the front if you can (it adds maybe 15 minutes to the wait, depending on how busy it is (basically, if you are queueing anywhere from the downward steps queue line - it's worth it).

It adds a huge amount to the ride and you really understand how close it all is.

Then do the back right later in the day as that's the most intense seat and it's a completely different ride.

Air, it's **** all over, but at the front you don't have to look at the chewing gum on the person in front's shoes. Right hand side is better than the left.

13 - see above, but the front is a little better for the secret element.

Rita - see above :P Front though because launch coasters are always better at the front. Back is fine if you love extreme ejector that rams you into the OTSR.

Oblivion..? Hmmmm... I like the front, because you're dangled over the edge almost vertically. On the back row, it's not as effective. Some people say that the airtime is much better from the back, but I've never really been able to feel any difference to be honest. I love it in both seats, but for a first go, that dangle over the pit is much better on the front.

Not that you'll have much choice on most of them - 13, Rita and Oblivion they tend to place you (apart from front rows on 13 and Rita where they have a separate queue). Air and Nemesis they pretend to tell you were to go, but everyone ignores them.

Spinball is best to get the two heaviest on the right hand seats, and the too lightest on the left. So the heaviest are going up the lift backwards. When you hit the top, the extra weight unbalances the car and sends it into a spin - so you get a really dizzying first half of the ride.

Thirteen would be best in the back row IMO, you dont notice the trims as much, and you do get some air on the first drop.

I am going quickly through the park. I won't have time for re-rides on Nemesis. Which provides the best experience if you can only go once, front or back? Also, will Smiler be open by May 25?

You may have time... I'd almost demand you MAKE time

First ride has to be the front, it really does. Then you ride the back to feel the forces.

I've heard rumours that The Smiler will be semi-open the week before, so you may fall lucky.

I'll make time I guess. Doesn't look like ill be lucky on Smiler  . I'll probably get my Fast passes and run to Nemesis for front row then your the rest of the park, AND come back for Nemesis back. Well, Smiler does look pretty rough. I can shift the dates toward June 5 instead.

For me I prefer the view over the intensity on most rides. But on woodies I like the back better.

On most inverted coasters: Front. You can't really see anything in any other seat.

Oblivion and Sheikra: Front.

Apollo's Chariot: Front. The airtime/intensity is not much different in any other seat.

Manta: Front. Although if you can't reach the front try to get the very right seat on any row. You can feel the refreshing water as you fly by the pond

However I do agree with others about trying the back if you have time for re-rides

Yeah you need to be making time, Alton will easily take up a day, so make sure you plan your route before you head in, and I would advise using the skyride if you find yourself pressed for time.

Nemesis - Like others have said front first then back, they are both experiences you WILL regret if you don't do both, plus the queue for Nemesis always move stupidly quickly, they fire trains out like it's no mans business, also be sure to get yourself an outside seat for both rides.

Oblivion - I personally prefer the front, only because you get a better view of the hole, but its not really a big deal either way, plus you wont have the choice of where you sit, seating positions are designated by ride ops.

Air - Always the front for me, you get a nice view of the track and surrounding area, anywhere other than the front will result in looking at peoples dirty skanky feet as quite a lot of people remove their shoes for this ride.

Thirteen - I prefer anywhere near the back personally, but again, you don't get the choice.

Rita - Front would be ideal as others have stated, but the front line queue can move horrendously slow, so if there's a lot of people up there I would probably just avoid it and try and get on the 2nd or 3rd row, especially if you are pressed for time.

^ cool, I didn't know that Nemesis had good capacity. What are the lines like for all the Alton Towers coasters? Also, could you include Saw's waits when it first opened (substitution for Smiler)?

Always prefer the back row but Merlin keep roping them off for parent swap etc and this upsets me :(

That's why I go with ssil_furie and always get the back :p

If The Smiler doesn't have break down issues, expect 90-180 minute waits on a mildly busy day I reckon.

May 25th is first day of the school holidays - nobody's going to be moving quickly through the park that day!
