Walibi Holland - 2014 updates

peep

CF Legend
Turns out that over the Winter period the park built a heavily themed wall leading to an empty space. Is this a similar stunt to what Efteling did during construction of the Raveleijn theatre?

A dazzling new square is not the only thing Walibi Holland last winter was busy. On a deserted spot in the park is suddenly appeared extensively decorated gateway. A gateway that leads to nothing. But Walibi Holland is not crazy. An amusement park so that the pennies should fit, put not just an expensive theme object down. The question is not whether there is something behind the gate will be built, but what. The long awaited first dark ride in the park? A stunt like that in the nineties in this place was to be seen? A cheap halloween haunted house-like walking? Or maybe just a new roller coaster?

Re: Walibi Holland - new 2014 attraction?

Hopefully a new coaster then! The park is in dire need of a new quality ride. Goliath is amazing but everything else i a bit.. ...mediocre? They need at least one other reason to get to the park!

And the article above is flawed btw. The park does have a dark ride, a Vekoma mad house to be more exact!

Re: Walibi Holland - new 2014 attraction?

Can anybody tell where that gateway is in the park?

Looking at the image, there's a railway crossing warning light on the left edge. I've marked the two crossing points on the map with red stars.

I reckon it's likely to be in the empty green area in near the top right of the map (next to the log flume).

I deserve 10 goon points if I'm right.

Re: Walibi Holland - new 2014 attraction?

I dont know if the park does need a new coaster tbh, they already have a good mix of coasters.

But if they dont have a dark ride though, then yeah, that should be on the cards really!

OR, lets be realistic here, it's going to be a retheme.

Re: Walibi Holland - new 2014 attraction?

Have they not got anything left to retheme and pass off as new?

Maybe their next trick is to just move all the same old s**te to different locations.

Hahahaha,

They have one good coaster, and a load of **** that are older than a decade.

That's not a good mixture, that's a stagnation.

Re: Walibi Holland - new 2014 attraction?

^Tru dat, though I actually quite liked the woodie.

Re: Walibi Holland - new 2014 attraction?

I don't think Walibi Holland will add a new ride in the near future anyway. The park has been removing more rides than adding them. As Walibi Holland explained why they removed so many rides: "It is because of over-capacity". I do understand that actually. They had 2.000.000 visitors in 2000 and the past years 800.000 as a maximum.

Walibi Holland doesn't need any new rides. I believe this gate is located at the former 'Return to King Solomon's Mine' site...there still is a theater there which is now used as a location for a Halloween haunted house. I guess a new stuntshow is coming up, since they don't have any big shows at the park. And all the other Walibi parks have a big show...

Re: Walibi Holland - new 2014 attraction?

I thought I'd bump this old topic instead of creating a new one. I never did find out what that gate was all about. Anyway a whole bunch of stuff is going on and it's a little exciting (because investment).

Lets start with Xpress. Last year the ride was repainted Grey and black and it looks a lot better for it. More info has now arisen and the ride is being renamed Xpress: Platform 13. They're currently installing a new building over the last part of the ride (breaks before the station) to create a new 'scene'. The scene will contain an exciting effect apparently. The queueline is expected to get an interactive element and apparently the park is seeking an actor for the ride. It also looks like there could be a new off-load platform. The park released a new teaser ad which is a little odd but might give us some idea of what to expect from the new theme...

The Mexican area is currently going through a huge re-theme to bring in line with the new Walibi brand. The area will now belong to the Skunx, I look forward to seeing what will become of the poorly kept area.

It has also meant that El Condor is being renamed and repainted a very bright orange.

I hope they do more improvements than just a paint-job as it's one of the worst SLCs out there.

The Tivoli in the family area has been given a make-over too (unless this happened last year, first I've seen/heard of it). It's got a cool new train design...

Goliath has also been given a new paint job. The track has been given a brighter green and the supports are now black (and not that hideous purple).

An internal memo about the park's future has also been leaked....

If someone could translate it that would be amazing.

LOVE the new Goliath colour scheme <3

That gateway leads to a bridge and one of their show buildings they house one of their scare attractions in every Halloween. Their sets are there permanently too. So I think that gateway may actually be there just for theming purposes.

Ahhh no they got rid of the fab purple supports! Boooo!

I loathe the furry rebranding of the Walibi Parks, it's poo.

The green and purple was certainly distinctive. I quite liked the old colour scheme.

The green and black is striking, but somehow bland in comparison. I can't decide whether I like it or not.

I think Goliath's new colour scheme is fab.

This is what, the 3rd..? change of theme that Xpress has had.

As for repainiting and renaming the SLC. My favourite expression comes to mind - you can't polish a turd.

Good to see the park getting spruced up though. I found it to be a very much paint-by-numbers sort of park. It still needs a new attraction though.

The internal memo says that the park will be working on comfort for guests, service and general in the park. They are also working very hard on the refurbishment of the Walibi Village bungalow resort, including the bungalows themselves, aswell as the public pool and public places. The final part says that they are looking out for a brand new ride for 2016.

For the Xpress: Platform 13...the last part of the ride will become somekind of optical illusion, in which guests get stuck in somekind of tunnel and almost get hit by a giant truck/train before unloading the train.

If Walibi could make a purchase of the new Vekoma SLC restraints (lapbar restraints) to go with its fab new theme then they've almost got a new coaster on their hands with El Condor (Is the name changing?), the ride experience would be changed massively and give the ride the potential to be half decent.

Also glad they're doing something with Xpress, I found it very bland to be honest. It's not a bad ride and with some decent theming and rider interaction they've got another winner on their hands.

I like the way they're taking their fleet of Vekoma's and giving them a new lease of life (they've already produced a fantastic piece of work with the Boomerang). It makes sense to make the most of what you've got before you start bringing in more attractions. It'll also be interesting to see if the woodie get a complete re-theme. This is my inner GOON talking; but giving the coaster an original theme and moving away from the branded theming would be great, and of course new trains are a must!

Oh, Goliath's new colour scheme is amazing! So glad Walibi are giving their coasters some much needed love, maybe you CAN polish a turd, several infact.

So a video interviewing the park's manager shows off what they've done to Xpress. If you don't want anything to be spoiled then don't watch. I have, they've put in a lot of effort, may become too scary for some people I know on here ;)

That actually looks really nice! What are the Rock 'n' Rollercoaster clones like? Are they rough?? Unfortunately I missed out on this ride on my visit in 2011.. =(
