Visiting SFGA Solo

CapricaSix

I'll be visiting NYC for a week in April for an event, and I was thinking about heading into New Jersey to visit Six Flags Great Adventure on one of the days. Always wanted to ride Kingda Ka in particular so I'm very keen to go.

Only thing concerning me is, I would be going solo. I've never been to a theme park on my own before, and was just wondering if anyone else has ever done so, and is it a 'comfortable' experience? For example, does SFGA have single rider queues?

I'd likely be visiting the park on a Tuesday in April. Is it likely to be busy at that time of year?

TIA for your advice. :)

If you're planning on visiting Six Flags Great Adventure on a Tuesday in April, you'll definitely be on your own - because the park isn't open on Tuesdays at that time of year. :P
Might want to check the park calendar before planning your visits.

I don't think you even bothered looking at park calendar, but the park opens on March 23rd for the 2013 season. It's just not open on Tuesdays in April. So why don't you actually look at the what days the park is open in April & adjust your plans accordingly.

For future reference though, whether you'll enjoy a park by yourself or not is entirely an individual thing.

I haven't done SFGA by myself, but I've visited plenty of other parks alone. I've always enjoyed the experience more with other people, but I haven't found it awkward or uncomfortable to be my myself at all. Well, maybe a bit when riding a kiddy coaster or something; that seems a lot less embarrassing in a group.

In many ways it's nice as you can just do what you want, when you want without having to worry about other people. For example, I can go all day quite easily without having to stop for food, so if I'm by myself I'll rarely bother eating at a park (maybe something I can grab and eat on the go), but in a group "stopping for lunch" tends to be a big deal, taking an hour out of the day.

Some people would never dream of going to a park alone, but others do it all the time; it completely depends on the person and there's no generic answer to the question.

Wow, parks not open until May?! Disappointing. Case closed then, maybe next time!

The park isn't open on weekdays until May, bar the spring break opening (which isn't during the time you'll be visiting anyways). It's traditional of most seasonal parks in the area to not open full time until Memorial Day, even Dorney Park and Hershey do it, too.

Regarding the rest of your questions, if you plan to visit at a later time this year given the opportunity. The park only has one single rider line and that's for Green Lantern, but if you visit on a weekday (M-Th) you shouldn't have problems with long lines unless it's before a major holiday (4th of July, Memorial Day, etc.).

PRE-POST EDIT: Gavin speaks the truth, it depends entirely on the person.

I'm sure this is too late and you probably already went, but about the single rider queue thing, from what I remember, Green Lantern is the only ride with the single rider queue. Hope this helped!
