So it was decided that we were to go to Tusenfryd today, which meant that we had to get out of bed at an horribly early time, for a Sunday, to get there before opening.
The drive to the park was uneventful and thanks to some new stretches of motorway that had opened since our last visit it went faster than ever before (it's just a small stretch left until there is motorway all the way between Gothenburg and Oslo). On the way there we did a short 5 minute de-tour to skip by some Norwegian road Toll stations
At the park and the normal haggling with the car park guard that we didn't have any Norwegian money with us and that we promised to pay for parking at the gate he let us past so that we could get to the entrance to meet Pokemaniac. The park was pretty deserted when we arrived, but it's most likely thanks to some idiot that last year did some pretty horrible stuff on this date. Shame really that some people can be so stupid and create so much suffering for a whole country, but anyhow it made the trip to Tusenfryd so much nicer for us instead.
We scored some free tickets, courtesy of Swedish COOP (Thank you!!) and of we went in.
In the end we didn't really ride all that much, a few runs on Speed Monster, Thundercoaster and the awesome Dodgems, and one ride on Loopen, Spin Spider and Western Ekspressen just for fun, but we spent more time just walking around and chatting away the time. But I'm pretty sure that all of us got to ride what we wanted during the visit, and as it started to rain at 16:30 we decided to call it a day and head for home a bit earlier.
Ride Reviews:
Loopen - well it's a Vekoma so what to expect really, it has a massive kink in the track after the corkscrew but thanks to the "Vekoma Brace" position we got out of it in good shape.
Spin Spider - A lot better than I remembered it to be, one of my top 3 of these kinds of attractions, we got a long powerful ride which produced some really nice air at the top.
Western Ekspressen - new for this year, but not for me, a bog standard Vekoma Rollerskater, nothing more really to say, other than incredibly tight seats.
Speed Monster - looks a bit worn around the edges, a new lick of paint would make it look great once more, but you can't really judge a ride by it's looks, since this one is a really fun and re-ridable accelerator. It's just as good as it always have been, sure a little bouncy, but it's still way better than most other accelerators I have ridden.
Dodgems - these are one of the main reason why we even bother with this park, nowhere have I experienced something similar. They are not fast or crash very hard, but the slightest nudge at the right spot will spin your car out of control in massive power-slides <3 If only all other dodgems were like these
Thundercoaster - I have seen this ride change so much over the years, it have gone from an incredible beast of a ride that had the most brutal out of control experience I have ever ridden, to something slow and just a shadow of it's former glory when GCI started to re-track/make large parts of the ride. Now however the beast is back!! The massively heavy Vekoma trains have ripped the GCI parts to shreds and it really flies through the track once more. It's a pure bliss to ride thanks to it's heavily padded seats, you have no real sense of directions anywhere and there is massive air-time over all hills and on places you wouldn't believe. It's bumpy, noisy, and incredibly rough but it's still one of Vekomas/Allott & Lomax finest creations. GO RIDE IT!!!
So that's that really, it was incredibly nice to finally meet Pokemaniac in person, we had a great time today, Thundercoaster is back and Tusenfryd have once more climbed up onto my list of nice parks to visit.
Until next time...
