For several months now there have been a lot of discussion in the local papers about a planned observation wheel in the Gothenburg Harbour, a lot of complaints about noise and vibrations(?) that people guess that this wheel will generate (several of them comes from people that neither live in the area nor know what they are talking about). But today the county administrative court have given the permits necessary and the all clear to start erecting the wheel. The permit is valid until August 2012.

The CEO of Liseberg Mats Wedin is happy for the all clear, but he would have wanted it to come sooner so that they could have opened it for Christmas.

The wheel itself is 60 meters tall and is leased for 3 years from Melbourne, Australia.

[camp] Big wheels are sooooo 2000. [/camp]

So is Brighton... as well as an observation tower :P

The wheel is going to be hubless too!

They've both been delayed, but recently it was announced that they haven't been cancelled yet.

Biggest, first in Europe and includes many other entertainment features.

Yes, Milton Keynes rules :D

(Though it is an eyesore too)

MK's ski slope isn't the biggest in the World... like, at all.

And, even it was ****ing Mt Everest, it'd still be in MK. Which is basically where people go to die. Or at least want to the second they arrive.

I was talking about the one they are building in great Blakenham near Ipswich which is practically next to my house.

Manchester has one! Big **** ing whoop!

I almost, nearly started to think about having a go on it this weekend. Then I realised I have no real desire to view the roof of The Arndale Centre.

A little update on this wheel:

Since the wheel have been delayed several times due to complaints from the people in Gothenburg then there have been a little change in the plans for this wheel.
The wheel that they were supposed to lease is no longer available, it have been shipped to Mexico due to the delays in Gothenburg. But Liseberg have solved this problem by buying an identical wheel themselves which is due to arrive in Sweden sometime in the next 2 weeks. Gothenburg have started the work to clear the site where the wheel will be located and a the opening have been planned in April/May.

And since this wheel is now owned by Liseberg then they will move it to the park as the building permit expires in August 2012...
