Stratosphere coaster

I've just been looking at some videos on youtube of the rides at the top of the Stratosphere tower and there was one member who was commenting on every video with the coaster in. He/she was saying that the coaster wasn't there anymore.

Is this true?

^Maybe because it has been gone for six years?

Next there'll be a topic to see how Jade Goody's cancer is going, or why we haven't seen Princess Diana around for a while...

Yeah, they were in the process of tearing it apart when I was there. I heard they had to cut it into small enough pieces to fit into the elevators, which is strange. I don't see why they wouldn't just use a helicopter.

I've heard they thought about using a helicopter, realised this would probably be the result...

... and decided against it.

You want to bring spinning blades in to the tower (which is small on top and has a Shot Tower right in the middle of it) close enough so that they can lift off parts of it, to avoid having to make a few more cuts...? Really?

How did they get the ride up there in the first place? Now I know it was the mid 90's and I'm sure you're cringing at the fashion of the era, but they did have a thing called prefabrication. I highly doubt it was fabricated on site.

The fashion...? What's that got to do with anything...?

The ride was built during construction of the actual tower, so, I guess they used whatever methods they used to get everything else up there, up there. A quick google says they used a "Tower crane" to put it into proper place, but these are only "small" so it would have probably stood on a slightly lower part, and used to hoist the bits of coaster into place. I'm not an engineer (that's my father you want for that), but, Google is my friend!

If they'd used the lifts, the pieces could have still been reasonably large. I don't recall ever saying it wouldn't have been pre-fabricated...? But, every coaster turns up in pieces, pieces that could have probably fit in the lift to be taken up. But, as it was built during the Tower's construction itself, I'm not sure if it was before or after the lifts as we know them today were in operation.

I remember reading how the three thrill rides that are there today went up in the lift, I don't see why High Roller couldn't have?

Not to mention the cost of the aviation fuel they'd have to expend. Much cheaper to use the elevator.

LOL a helicopter, that's a disaster waiting to happen. I can understand for Big Shot because it's above the tower, but not for the coaster beside the tower!

Anyway yah the coaster is long gone and was replaced with XScream, which is not a cred. They should have just tossed the pieces over the edge :P .
