Star Tours refurb...?

The update was planned then stopped then planned again.

The ride needs an update, but tbh is the ride needed at all?

Star Wars does have a cult following, yes I still love the films. But its old now and there is other stuff that could go in that is more up to date.

Orlando is meant to get the new version 1st, then California.

Paris will not be done for a few years as it needs to be translated.

I dont even bother going on it now.

I dont think the Soarin part is happening as there is no planned down time. Paris were meant to get this as well, but they did not want the version from America so are waiting for the new version.

Star Tours is w **** k. I'd much rather see a completely new attraction personally, but a new film is better than nothing I suppose.

Like other people, I think its a bit of an 'odd' attraction. Everyone I have been to DLP with said it was their least favourite attraction. I have only ever been on it when I'm off to DLP with someone who hasn't been before.

And as much as I love Honey I Shrunk the audience, that too could do with a re-vamp. Both them attractions could be be removed and replaced with one new one...

But anyway, I haven't been on any of the other Star Tours, so I can't comment on then.

From the sounds of things, everyone is on-board now to get this project up and running at last, which apparently took the Oriental Land Company to sign on the dotted line and throw in some extra cash into the pot. As I’ve heard rumored, the new version of Star Tours will be in 3D and use extensive in-cabin effects. The timeline will place the events of the film right between Episode 3 and 4, into the grey area between the two trilogies. Even better, not only will it involve more than one random ending to the film to keep it fresh, but apparently they will also have random different starting and middle segments too, creating so many different combinations that it could be very difficult to ever say that you saw them all.

If it has these random sections, the ride will be alot more re-ridable, which is good because its always been the attraction that you'd do once and wouldn't bother returning.

Also rumors are saying that Star Tours 2 may in fact be ready for DLP for 2012, along with the Ratatouille ride in WDS to coincide with the 20th Anniversary celebrations.

Yeah as I said the Paris version needs to translated so that takes a bit of time. Maybe this time they can run English versions as well which would be better.

I did remember reading that Paris would get theirs 3 years after Orlando, but that can change.

Honey I Shrunk the audience should be got rid of, hardly any young kids remember the film now. The show had it's day years ago and is dated now.

Pirates in Paris was also due an upgrade but the money was spent on new attractions, quiet right in my view.

Paris works very different to Orlando and California as its not fully owned by Disney. Peep will probably know more about the plans though, we get the DVC updates that give a bit of info.

^Of course Peep knows more :D

The last rumour I heard about Star Tours 2 is that they have been filming about 20 beginnings, 20 middle parts and 20 endings for the ride. Imagine the amount of adventures you could get from that! I don't think translation will take long tbh, it really is down to what the company that runs DLP wants to do.

Currently Paris is not confirmed to get it but they did test new stuff (what moves the pod) out on one of their simulators

I love the sound of more in-cabin effects and 3D glasses, will definitely bring the attraction into a new era.

It sounds like ratatouille will definitely be coming to the Walt Disney Studios in 2012 but it sounds like they have already made cutbacks regarding the plan for it, maybe to put more money into this?

From the rumors It's suppose to have windows and the roof comes apart during a battle. But it's all about the revamp and it's time release with Disneyland and Disney world. Also Soarn is getting a new film as rumor World Soarn is getting redone. I think these type of rides are much easier to do for WDI then making a new ride. Also, Disney World in Fl needs something to complete with UIOA Harry Potter land. This maybe Disney quick answer to that.

That's what Stormriders at DisneySea currently has, and it's a MUCH better ride. Parts of the ceiling/walls collapse and spray water, and the "windows" at the sides give an all-around simulator experience. It's not just about looking at a screen at the front.

Going slightly off topice here, so I apologise, but:

Pirates in Paris was also due an upgrade but the money was spent on new attractions, quiet right in my view.

Pirates was closed for a lenghty amount of time at the beginning of this year for its 'clean up', is that what you're on about?

I have nothing against the ride, I've always loved it, but it DOES need something doing to it.
Is the Star Wars franchise still popular enough to justify a revamp on the current Star Tours theme?

Martyn. Pirates was meant to get the same update as Orlando and California with Jack being put in. But we read that they dont want to spend the money on getting the new models.

^Which is a real shame. The Paris version is seriously lacking compared to the others (haven't done California though). Just adding the Jack animatronics still wouldn't make it as good as the others, but it would be a step in the right direction.

I haven't been on the others, but I dont see anything wrong with the Paris Pirates as it is.

But this is Disney, and what makes Disney so special is how they spend so much time & money on the smallest things - so why they now being tight arse's?

The major difference being that Paris is essentially a franchise and they have a lot of money problems. They would rather spend what little they have on getting new attractions to help boost numbers rather then updates that would attract some, but not as many.

In terms of Star Tours, the last I read was that they were not even going to start looking at Star Tours 2 for Paris until it had been installed at both California and Florida. For Paris, their film is somewhat newer (in terms of quality) then that of its US counterparts and is in less need in terms of getting updated.

The Paris Pirates is fine. It really isn't as bad as some people make out. Granted, it is a little disappointing if you have ridden the US counterparts (and possibly those in the middle east... I cant say), but as an overall ride experience it is fantastic and still miles ahead of the bog standard dark boat ride you get everywhere else. Personally, I wasn't a huge fan of them adding in the characters from the movie in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I totally appreciate that for this generation of visitors it is much more likely that they assume the ride is based on the movie as appose to the other way around. I watched a documentary about why they changed it and it was largely in relation to the fact that many kids were coming off the ride and asking where Captain Jack was. From this they just developed the ride, to give it a fresh angle that included Jack without totally destroying the essence of the ride. Whether Paris decide to follow suit really doesn't phase me, as I say, I enjoyed Pirates in Paris too.

Maybe its just me, but I thought that Paris has a much better version of Pirates. Mainly when compared to Florida as thats the only other one I've been on, but the whole rearrangement of the ride (having the skeletons at the end instead of the beginning etc) made much more sense. The film additions to the florida version , such as Davy Jones, seemed a bit 'mooshed' in too.

Last tour to Endour was our celebration of star tours at Hollywood Studios, it was a fun night- we had alot of people dressed up riding Tower of Terror, and far too many lightsabers. The ride doesn't close until September 8th but as we have seen the last of our Summer Nighttastic changes- everything has gone back to normal at the resort now, so we had the Star Tours event the night before everything went back. According to our managers, star tours 2 will be an extremely impressive 'e-ticket' attraction with multiple starts, middles and ends. It should be very exciting.

For the record, I prefer Paris pirates too!!
