Six Flags Fiesta Texas Trip Report

Strata Poster
My family was in San Antonio recently. My Dad and I thought it would be fun to go to Six Flags Fiesta Texas. We were lucky to have a car to get there more easily. The park wasn't too crowded when we arrived at around 9:20. They let us in at around 9:30. No rides were open, but we were able to get our Flash Pass. It was a nice surprise to see Iron Rattler on the list of rides. I didn't think it was a Flash Pass ride. We got the Flash Pass and looked for a ride to get on. I decided to go ahead and reserve Goliath because of how close it was. We reserved it at around 9:45. We walked by it and sat around until about 10:10 when they opened it up.

Goliath- I've always thought the Batman model was nice, and I would say this is the smoothest and most intense I've ridden. It has the traditional layout, however I felt that the second half was much better on this one. It was faster and much more intense in the corkscrews. The one problem is that the theming is missing. I wish they could have found a way to make it another Batman themed model because I usually love the theming on them. If they could have done something with the theming, this would be my favorite Batman invert. For now, however, it's my least favorite. 9/10

I saw that Iron Rattler, Superman, Boomerang, Scooby-Doo, and Pandemonium were all closed. I was getting a bit worried. I decided to just reserve Road Runner so I can ask what the problem was on Rattler. I headed that way. I arrived at Road Runner and got on the back quickly.

Road Runner Express- This is unlike most mine trains. It starts out with an 80 foot drop under another coaster then just gets right into another lift onto the quarry into another drop that leads into a helix and the brake run right after. When it hit the brakes. I realized how short that was. I don't consider this a mine train personally. It doesn't have all those awkward helixes and slow straight pieces of track. It isn't a very good mine train, however, it is a good kid's roller coaster. 6.2/10

When I got off, my dad said that the man said Rattler might not open all day. I was afraid I might not be able to ride the Iron Rattler. I was rather disappointed. I decided to get reserve SkyScreamer because of how close I was to it. While waiting to take off, I saw that Superman was open so I reserved it.

SkyScreamer- I usually like these. This is one of the shorter SkyScreamers I've been on. It was much more exciting than most because of the crazy winds that were at the top. My swing was shaking rather crazily. It was an almost scary experience. I usually enjoy these more for a more calming atmosphere, but this was much different. This is one of the worst I've ridden however it was made much better by the crazy winds at the top 5.7/10

While on SkyScreamer, I saw people were onboard Rattler. I was so relieved. After getting off, I got into the Superman station and reserved Iron Rattler. It was going to be on board in 20 minutes, but I was going to ride my second most looked forward to ride first.

Superman: Krypton Coaster- this is one ride I have always wanted to ride. It reminded me a lot of my favorite roller coaster, Kumba. It has always looked like the best floorless coaster. It always looked special so I was excited to ride. The ride has a nice lift and lots of anticipation within it's turn into the drop. It has a great first drop. There is something I love about the way it drops by the quarry. It also has one of my favorite loops. It has some great hangtime. I love the helix above the quarry. It is quick and intense. Ever since Kumba, my favorite inversion is the Zero-G Roll. This has another great Zero-G Roll. It has a great snap to it. It is my third favorite behind Kumba and Patriot. It has a great Cobra Roll, but my favorite part is the Interlocking Corkscrews. After the brake run, there is this great snap into the corkscrew. The turns and corkscrews were very fast and fun. They all had a fun snap to them. I love the ride. It was very special. I like the interactions with the quarry. It was one of those rides that was just so enjoyable. I could ride it all day. 9.6/10

After Superman, I walked to Iron Rattler and got in line. While in line, I saw that Boomerang was open. I reserved it. I was getting really excited to ride it. I went for the back line as I watched people getting on and off looking very pleased until I finally got my turn to ride.

Iron Rattler- The lift is rather long and builds up tension. The stop at the top of the ride was interesting. It really built up a lot of anticipation for the first drop, and, man, was that a great first drop. One of the best drops I've ever been on. I would say it is better than Outlaw Run's. The degree is quite insane and with the intense airtime, it is quite an experience. Then you come back up the quarry for another great pop of airtime and a nice 90 degree turn. Then came another dive down the quarry and up into the barrel roll. The barrel roll felt almost surreal. While it wasn't as good as Outlaw Run's inversions, it wasn't trying to be. I thought it fit well with the ride. The part on top of the quarry was interesting. It wasn't that exciting, but it was fun. The two 90 degree turns didn't do much for me yet, I really enjoyed them. The hills on the quarry give some great airtime too. The drop back down the quarry gave some amazing airtime. It was almost as good as the first drop. I really love the ending of the Rattler. I love when a park puts in extra things in a ride. I noticed the water shot out as I went down the quarry. I didn't expect it, but my favorite part of the ride was going through the quarry. The lights and fog were just a blast. At that moment, I fell in love with the ride. There was one more nice pop of airtime going into the brake run. Sitting there on the brake run, I just took in that ride. After getting off the ride, I was liking about more and more. I can easily say now that this is one of the best rides I've ridden. It's worth the price of admission. 9.7/10

After my amazing ride on Rattler, I got on a less spectacular roller coaster, Boomerang. I was interested in seeing a nearly hour wait for this hunk of junk. I was lucky to be able to get right on board with my Flash Pass. I was also able to get a front row seat.

Boomerang- surprisingly smooth and rather nice boomerang. Nothing special, but it didn't hurt. 6.1/10

While getting off Boomerang, I decided to reserve Poltergeist. I walked to it, and got into the interesting station. They were going for a theme with creepy paintings on the wall and an old house feel, but on the other side is a parking lot and cars with Got 2B ads. I appreciated the attempt, but it didn't work.

Poltergeist- having been rather unimpressed with the Flight of Fears, I was expecting a rather disappointing ride. I didn't get it. This is what I was expecting from the flight of fears. It didn't seem to slow up at the top like the others did so, the second half, was instead very exciting and fun. However, I prefer the launch on the others. It didn't feel as fast here. I also liked the first half better on the others. I would have to say that overall, however, I certainly liked this version better. I just thought it was much more intense and overall fun. 8.6/10

When I got off of Poltergeist, I saw that Pandemonium had opened up. I rushed towards it. I was noticing how fun the theme of the boardwalk was. It had a theme of just "having fun". I really liked it. I walked towards Pandemonium's entrance noticing Joker's Revenge's old building. I was wishing that it could have still been here. However, I am fine with Pandemonium.

Pandemonium- I got on really quickly, and before I knew it, I was off. I sort of dozed off. I just don't remember it that well. I remember it was very underwhelming because it barely spun at all. It was a shame because I usually enjoyed these coasters, and this one seemed to have a very interesting environment with the quarry and boardwalk. I was quite disappointed because it was just so boring. 5/10

After getting off Pandemonium, my dad and I walked towards the train station by Superman. We walked through the 50s area to the train and barely made it to get on board.

Train- a pretty average train. There's not much to see on board, but it's nice for transportation. 4.2/10

We decided to get off the train near Poltergeist because we were getting hungry. We saw that there was an international food court near the station. It was a very nice building with the Looney Tunes on a big TV. We got into the Pizza line, but it would take about 20 minutes until thy could make any more. We decided to go to a generic Theme Park 50s Diner. It was your regular Chicken Tenders and Fries. Nothing special. After eating, we went back to Superman because I had reserved it during Lunch. It was just as great as the first ride, if not better. We were starting to feel very tired after Superman. There were also no lines under about 40 minutes. We thought it would be a good time to go so we could enjoy the rest of our day in San Antonio too. We walked back to the entrance and returned the Flash Pass. As we left the park, I looked back at it, and it hit me just how wonderful his park was.

This park is one of my favorite parks. It's so enjoyably weird. The way it is set up and the environment is unlike any park I've been to. The way it is around these quarries and the way the rides interact with the quarries is so strange, but it fits the park. The park is not set up well. It is pretty tiny. The sections are not separated well, and the park has no overall theme. However, it works for the park. The secret is how charmingly weird it is. Every corner is entertaining. There is something to see or admire. It is unlike any park I've seen. It seems quite out there, almost like San Antonio. Both are much different from what I was expecting. They sort of do their own thing. They don't really care if anything matches or makes sense. They just have their own way. Don't get me wrong. It has all the normal Six Flags things, same models and ads. However, it's the mood and atmosphere that sets it apart. Every area is perfect in it's own way. They are rather well themed and thought out. Even if the overall park doesn't fit together well, it doesn't need to. It feels like its own thing. It's very individual. The boardwalk area is among one of my favorites. It's so out of place and tiny, but it's just perfect. The way you walk over go-karts and have the Scooby-Doo shooter there too. It's just so charming. I also love the 50s area. Roll over Beethoven was playing while I was walking through it. The stoplights and shops fit perfect with the song. Even though it leads into an old school Texas area with Rattler, it doesn't matter. That's the charm of the park. The weirdness of it's positioning and rides are exactly what makes it so special. It reminds me a lot of Rainy Day Woman #12 & 35. It's one of Bob Dylan's songs that makes no sense and isn't like most Dylan songs, but it's one of my favorites because it is weird and out of the "norm". It is just it's own song. It's perfect for what it is, just like the park. Six Flags Fiesta Texas is, surprisingly, one of my favorite parks.

Seriously? I fully agree with the comments about the quarry surroundings, but I though the set up and theme was well done. It's by far the best Six Flags park I've visited where I was impressed with the themed areas. You're right that it doesn't have an overall theme but I think that's forgiveable seeing as many of the ride areas are well themed. You mentioned that the boardwalk was great, that was one of my favourite areas, too.

I enjoyed your comments about Iron Rattler. It took me two or three goes before I fell in love with it. The barrel roll is quite surreal. One would assume that it would be the highlight, but it's not. The highlight for me was the massive drop after the slithering bumpy part on the cliff top and then the tunnel. I love the way the ride keeps pouncing. Outlaw Run builds tension all of the way through, Rattler blips up and down like a heart monitor.

Gotta side with Ian From Coasterforce on this one. Maybe I was blown away by the natural setting too much, but I remember the park being my favorite 6F in terms of pure themeing/aesthetics.

Granted it has been about 5 years since I went, and 6F could **** up a good think in a much shorter time than 5 years.

Always enjoy reading your detailed trip reports Edward. Fiesta Texas looks like one of the better Six Flags parks. Cool atmosphere, decent line-up of coasters, I'd love to get down there.

This has been on my list of "must visit" parks for quite a while now; I've always thought that Superman looks to be quite easily the best floorless coaster.

Out of the three I've done - Deamon, Dominator and Superman at SFFT - it's the best. There's something special about diving down the side of the quarry.

If I had to recommend one SF park to visit, it would be Fiesta Texas.
