Six Flags America & Hurricane Harbour to close at the end of the 2025 season

God dammit I'm missing a few creds there. I just got back from another trip to a park that's gonna close after this year... really don't want to have to do another one. 🤣

Brace yourself for all the posts coming out of the woodwork about how it was everyone's favorite and how they all loved it so much!

I grew up going to the park every summmmmmer so it's a bummer but also 🤷‍♂️

Not terribly surprising, given KD's proximity.

And I can't imagine this will be the last park closure announcement from SF.

Place your bets now, what gets salvaged and moved?

Wow...
This is just depressing. If you don't know, this was the closest Six Flags branded park (I am closer to Kings Island, which is owned by the same parent company). I actually went there one summer in 2023. I actually thought it was a decent park, and I finally rode a Vekoma Flying Dutchman, one of the rarest coaster types. I am one of the people who actually thought good things would come out of this merger, but alas. I wouldn't be surprised if more announcements come about other parks, too.
The only good thing I can see come out of this is ride relocations, but nothing else. I am just very disappointed.
Kings Dominion is also very close though, so that could be it.

The main shame is i imagine it will see a couple of bits of coaster history meet their end.

Neither are brilliant rides but Wild One is I think currently the oldest operating ride in the USA and has a storied history.

While Firebird is B&Ms first ever coaster.

Will be a shame to see these go.

I visited the park about 10 years ago and didn't think it was as bad as people make out. Sure the layout was a mess and none of the rides really stood out but it sure as hell beat a day out at oakwood (in its latter years) or flamingo land.

I always felt that SFAM was given a bad rep, and if it wasn't part of the six flags chain and was an independant park then people would probably like it more. If a new company took it over then it could get a new lease of life, but given they're selling the land to be "marketed for redevelopment" it doesn't seem like that will be likely, and anyway, why would they want to give another company a park to compete with KD.

The park will probably be gutted. I get the feeling we're going to see a whole load of "new" rides at other six flags parks when all these are relocated. The biggest loss may well be Wild one, which is over 100 years old, although it was relocated once before, I highly doubt that will be the case again. Roar will almost certainly be scrapped and parts sent to other parks.

Jokers jinx and ragin cajun will probably be relocated, although its possible they will use JJ for spare parts for the other premiere launch coasters in their chain. I'm not sure what the fate of the intamin will be, as it would be a huge project to relocate it, and in all honest it's probably the worst intamin hyper. I wouldn't be averse to the new trains it just got going to SFNE though.

As the oldest B&M, Firehawk could well be headed for the scrapheap, but maybe it could end up at another park or be sold somewhere.

The SLC might struggle to find a new home, as there arent really that many six flags parks that don't already have an invert. Great escape maybe? They may well sell it to another park.

As for the flying dutchman, it's possible it could have a future elsewhere. there's bound to be plenty of spare parts knocking around from the other 2 that got scrapped and it's a pretty unique coaster that could easily be marketed to a new area. There arent a whole lot of flying coasters around after all.

okay so this was from the C F facebook page. Six Flags announced that Six Flags America will close at the end of the 2025 season. The property, which is approximately 500 acres, will be marketed for redevelopment as part of the company’s ongoing portfolio optimization program.

so does this mean the park is belly up dead, or just getting a big make over? if it's gone well at least most of the rides may get relocated, or at least go to other parks for spare parts.

i'd say cajin, joker, firebird all get relocated. heck just give joker to new jersey. i mean they could just put it where green lantern was, and probably stil have room for that new coaster i'd think. super man trains go to dorney for spare parts, and i honestly doubt any park wants that old slc. or maybe give joker or firebird to Michigan, or take steamin demon out of great escape, and give them firebird or joker?

There goes the last Flying Dutchman!
Please let it be open in May, please let it be open in May….
Glad I included this one in my tour this year, now it’s all about hoping to get all the creds.

But gosh, they really try to save some money. But maybe, just maybe, the park would draw more crowds if you invested something in the last 20 years? It got a relocated stand-up and a wild mouse, no wonder it’s causing financial problems.

I got spited by Superman when I visited, and always felt a bit miffed about that. Rest of the part was mediocre, at best, but shame to see it go especially as I suspect most of the coasters there will end up on the scrapheap.

I am not too surprised given we skipped the park intentionally in our planning of this summer's east coast tour after looking at the rides on RCDB. It doesn't seem to have any interesting coasters besides Superman and that one's reputation is terrible. And if you've ever ridden a Flying Dutchman, you're really not sad to see another one go. That's the second most uncomfortable coaster type there is (with only SLCs being worse).

I wasn't a fan of this place, I couldn't see any conceivable reason why I'd ever go back, and if any of their parks were up for the chopping block, it's not surprising that it was this one, but it's still a bit s**t to lose a pretty major park.
