On August 10, Six Flags Great America's Whizzer was added to the prestigious list of ACE Roller Coaster Landmark, joining other famous roller coasters such as Magnum XL-200, Lochness Monster, and the Coney Island Cyclone.

Though Jumbo Jets were a popular hit in the 1970s and 1980s, the list of those still operating is quite slim. Even more, Whizzer was a Speedracer model, designed to have a much wider layout than previous Jumbo Jet models. There were only four of these Speedracers ever built, with two remaining today.

Whizzer is the second Six Flags Great America roller coaster to receive this distinction, with Batman: the Ride also being honored as the first B&M Invert.

Hope they double-checked the spelling on this plaque. Last Friday, I saw the one for Cyclone at Lakeside in Denver. Edward Vettel's name is misspelled as "Vetiel."

^ I hope someone's head rolled for that one! I can just imagine the throngs of people everyday, hanging around the plaque and laughing at such an error.
