Rupaul's Drag Race Season 6

Yeah, this isn't going to interest a huge number of people, but I figured that there are enough of us on here who are pretty much obsessed with this show - best reality show ever; just saying - to make a go of a semi-decent topic.

Season 6 doesn't start until February, which is slightly later than usual, but the queens were officially announced a couple of days ago. I was just in the process of downloading the intro videos for this topic, but I've just realised that someone has already done that for me.

Anyway, here are the queens for this season, with a few personal thoughts. There's a bit of prior knowledge involved with some of them, but they're not spoilers as such, since obviously the show hasn't started, but if you want to go into it with zero prior knowledge, you might want to watch the videos and skip my opinions:

Adore Delano

She's fab. She was a former contestant on American Idol (Danny Noriega), so she's a really talented singer. I think she's going to go really far. She's pretty young though; the young ones don't historically do all that well.

April Carrion

This season's token Puerto Rican. I hadn't heard of her before and can't really get much from the video. Really no idea at the moment. She'll no doubt fall at the snatch game like all the previous Puerto Rican queens, though I guess her English is better than the others.

Ben Delacreme

Love her! We were Facebook friends until 3 days ago when she changed her profile to a fan page. Whore. She's got a very "Jinkx Monsoon" sense of humour - they work the same club scene in Seattle - but looks a lot more polished. She'll get far, possibly top three, but won't win as she's too similar to Jinkx. Actually, she's kind of a mix of Jinkx Monsoon and Tammie Brown. The "quirky" queens are doing much better in the show these days, so who knows?

Bianca Del Rio

Already VERY well established on the New York drag scene - works closely with Lady Bunny, has done other TV/film stuff - but I've never seen that actually help anyone in the past (Penny Traition anyone?). Despite her experience, I can see her disappearing in the first couple of weeks. I think she's too "traditional" and the show has been moving away from that.

Courtney Act

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. Already very well-known in Australia - she got to the semi-finals of Australian Idol and has released singles there (as Courtney Act, not her male counterpart). She has worked closely with Willam, Detox and Vicky, covering if one of them can't make a show. She's brilliant, and I think a potential winner.

Gia Gunn

Humourless. Dull. Lazy performer who relies on costume and makeup. Will be gone in the first few weeks. Hopefully.

Joslyn Fox

Kelly Mantle

She doesn't give too much away from her intro video - well, I guess there are a few signs in there - but she's actually really fierce. I don't think she'll make top three, but she'll last a while and I might be surprised.

Laganja Estranja

<3<3<3. She's fantastic. There's a bit of personal bias because I've been a fan of hers for about 6 months now (we're, like, totally BFFs on Facebook), but she's really talented. Her drag mother is Alyssa Edwards, who bacame one of my favourites last year after a shaky start, and she's an AMAZING dancer. Potential top three, but as much as I love her, I doubt she's a winner. Like Adore Delano, I think she's just a bit too young.

Magnolia Crawford

Meh. Tries to be a "comedy queen", but she's really not that funny from what I've seen of her. She seems very "nice" and might surprise me I guess, but I doubt she'll make the top 8.

Milk

No idea about her. I'm not getting a lot from the video, but I'm intrigued.

Miss Darienne Lake

This years token big girl. Pandora Boxx's drag mother. She seems sweet and funny, but I don't hold out a great deal of hope. I think she'll go the same way that I see Bianca Del Rio going: disappearing early as she's already a well-established "traditional" queen and might not adapt well to the challenges. I like her though, so I hope she does well. Plus points for being named after an amusement park, too.

Trinity K Bonet

Very dull intro video. Seems to lack any real personality at all. Also seems like she could be a total bitch though, so they'll keep her in for a while for the drama. Having said that, she won't make top 5.

Vivacious

I kind of love her. Again, a very well-established queen, but also very alternative. She's going to turn out some amazing looks and I think could do quite well; she comes from the same "club-kid" background as Rupaul and Michelle Visage, so I think they'll have a real respect for her.

So there it is. There's also a rumour that this season might replace "lip sync for your life" with "sing for your life", but I think this is just because a lot of this year's contestants are very good singers. I can't see it actually happening. I hope not anyway, though I could see a few more singing challenges cropping up than before.

My predictions: top three will be Courtney Act, Adore Delano and Ben Delacreme, though I would love to see Laganja Estranja in there instead of Adore. Kelly Mantle wouldn't be a shock.

Winner: Courtney Act. I honestly think she's going to walk it. I've called it for the last two seasons (three if you count all stars) based on these intro videos before the show's even started, but I'd like to be surprised.
 
I really love Milk, SO weird haha <3 I love the campy style of Tammy and Jinkx so I already have a soft spot for Ben Delacreme. Some of them seem a bit boring, I love the weirder ones usually and there's a slight lack of that here?

I don't want Courtney Act to win I think she comes across as boring.
 
I will have to watch those videos come lunch, but for right now, I dont really house any stong opinions towards any single girl that will be on this season.

From your opinions alone though, it seems like Courtney may have the strongest act so far; however, I thought that of Detox and she just kind of floundered for me when it came to making anything on her own.

For the rumor bit, I think if RuPaul does another Mash-Up with the queens for a single, then the resulting Lip-Sync would be a proper singing contest. Would only be fair.

Will give up my own opinions later after some research, but from brief glances on their facebook fanpage, Im rooting for Milk and Darienna (shes made me chuckle a bit) for now.
 
Spite, half the videos had been copyright spited by the time I got through them and now they all have <//3

Courtney Act and BenDeLaCreme are my faves from that, Courtney is ridiculously fishy, I'd never clock her.

Ben's just, fab. Jinkx is one of my all time favourites, so anyone like that gets points. But, she won't win, we won't have it two years in a row.
 
^Ugh, I **** hate logo tv. It's not like it's the actual programme. It's a bloody advert for their product. Twats.

I've managed to get hold of all the videos. Anyone who knows about this stuff, is it worth uploading them to YouTube (no identifying titles and not publicly viewable) or are they likely to just get taken down?
 
^ They're likely to be taken down unless you edit them so the content drastically changes.

I partially watched one episode before (Scarlet was playing one off her phone on a tv at Jordan's once), I found it mild amusing. I can see why the "queens" like it and would put up with it if it was the least worst thing on telly.

I look forward to summer 2014 when I overhear several CFers quoting the show and giving a puzzled look until I realise what they're on about <3
 
^Yeah, I gave it a quick go to test it out, but it's got an instant block on it.

If anyone didn't get to see them and is actually that bothered there are ways around the USA only blocks on logotv.com. It's not like the actual show has started yet, so it's no big loss. I've got them as MP4 files as well if anyone wants to PM me.

I stumbled across this once when channel hopping a few years ago. Wasn't what I thought it would be and switched it off disappointed when there were no supercharged cars.
 
The new series starts on February 24th.

I literally loved episode one. Gia Gunn... ABSOLUTELY. hahahahaaaa.... but my fave moment was 'come on season 6... lets get sickening! *drops to the floor*. DYIIIING HAHAHAAA!
 
Disappointed at the person who left. Totally agree with it based on the actual episode, but she had soooooo much more to show.

So far I'm not impressed at all by Vivacious. Laganja is bringing it. Also loving Ben de la Creme and Adore Delano, which isn't a shock.

I absolutely adore Adore. I hope she goes pretty far.

While Gia's look is very nice, she doesnt seem...bright...in any manner. I get that it is a TV show, but I hope they dont make her seem to be air-headed.

Ben de la Creme is hilarious. Already rooting for her and I hope she goes far. Laganja was fierce, but **** was she annoying (to a degree).
 
I love Gia, she's such a fab **** <3

But, Ben de la Creme is my life already. She's like a much fabber version of Tammie Brown.
 
Bianca Del Rio is amazing.

Another disappointing performance from somebody who should have been better and was rightly sent home, just like last week.

As much as I love Courtney Act, she was a bit bland.

Darienne Lake's lyp sync was flawless.
