Ridge Rider

I was looking on coaster-count.com and noticed their "non parks" section in the list of UK creds. All but one of them is called Ridge Rider. This is not something I've head of before, so I googled it, and this is what I found -

First question is, have any of you actually seen/been on one of these? There's 9 in the UK listed on coaster-count but I guess there could be more. If you have been on one, where was it? Some of them appear to be SBNO, which given that my googling also found this article about 2 kids breaking limbs falling from one may be due to the British obsession with H&S. Interestingly, although the page still exists, it seems to have been removed from the navigation menu on the manufacturer's website, suggesting these may have been discontinued?

Also, I guess these might not only be in the UK? Has anyone found one anywhere else?

Then, it leads us to the obvious question - is it a cred? If not, why not? Although if it is, where do you draw the line? Would you also then count one of these?

PS. Apologies if this has been done before. I did do a search, be we all know how useful that is...

Thats awful, and even worse that some are listed as 'SBNO' - its a **** kids play area toy.

I suppose Zip wires can be classed as suspended coasters...?

I'll be honest, if I gave enough of a **** about it, I'd probably boycott coaster-count over it since it's so **** ing ridiculous that they'd include them.

If only coastercounter wasn't so crap ...

Not a cred, unless you would also count this:

^ The local authority would probably close it off, remove the seat, put barriers around it etc. As Nic said, a few accidents in the UK and the whole lot would have to closed.

How exactly does one of these attain SBNO status?
Because some dirty chivvy scrotum probably decided to set fire to it like they do with swing sets etc ;)

I think he was more getting at WHY is it classed as standing but not operating, when its not a ride, or a coaster - to which that term is usually reffered to.

^By listing it on the site at all, they have already classed it as some form of coaster, so why not apply the term? I have a similar impression to Ian, in that SBNO in this context will mean that it has somehow been rendered unusable (either by over zealous H&S killjoys or by vandals), but has not been completely removed. If you're going to bother listing them in the first place, then I can't see an issue with making a distinction between the two states?

I see your point. But I still think its a bit of a joke that they list them a coasters in the first place.

Each to their own, I guess.

Yet they took the Side Friction Water Chute/Coasters off RCDB?

I guess it's as much a credit as a Switchback (in that it needs somebody to push it up a hill to complete a circuit) - however, it's seriously just a bit of playground equipment. If you go down a slide on a skateboard, is it a "Bobsled" coaster? Nah

Yeah, it's the dodgy realm of playground equipment.

Take Telepherique at Parc Saint Paul for example:

That's not a cred but it could be conceived as. The difference with Ride Riders is they are self-propelled and do coast uphill.

I've finally found a photo of the "slidey half pipe thing" that I was talking about. So, yeah, if you count a RidgeRider, and you count halfpipe coasters (e.g. RC Racer) and/or Butterfly coasters, then would you also count these?
