Past rides of Brighton Pier?

SilverArrow

Certified Ride Geek
Hey all,

For a while now I have been trying to find photographic evidence of past rides on the pier. (Which would have been the Palace Pier then.)

I have a really faint memory of what I later understand to have been an Enterprise (with a random model dinosaur behind it at the end of the pier- which I have found like one photo of).

I also seem to remember a ride like a more modern version of the Loop O Plane (a longer more space-looking version).

Can anyone confirm the existence of these rides (or even better does anyone have/know of any photos of them?)? (Or any other interesting rides for that matter!)

I have always been curious as to what rides existed on the pier before the present lot (as they seem to have been around for ages!) but 99% of all Brighton pier photos have been taken in the last 5 years by tourists so old photos are really hard to find!

Thanks. :)

Probably not, but I don't know if any of these are any good to you: http://www.mybrightonandhove.org.uk/cat ... ath__.aspx

What may be slightly more use is a Flickr search for "Brighton Palace Pier" seems to throw up a few that might be what you're after

Try a keyword search of "Palace Pier" on The Argus' photo archive site. They're watermarked to the point of being almost completely obscured, but should be ok for what you want. There's loads of pictures, that cover a wide time span, so you might find something.

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know.

Thanks for the links, I had had a brief look through the "My Brighton and Hove" site but didn't really find much. I'll have another look around and if I find anything i'll post it up here (just in case anyone else is interested etc).

In the meantime, if anyone else can remember anything, do post, otherwise i'll start to think I'm just going crazy and made it all up! haha

EDIT:

This photo possibly shows an enterprise on the bottom left end of the pier.

After trawling the internetz some more (for anyone who might care) I have found this photo:

So far the only evidence I have, but it's something nonetheless. :)
It seems that the ranger was around a lot longer than the enterprise.

(Maybe they should try and get a ranger back after the ill-fated air diver!)
