Not massive news admittedly, but I just got this email:
It's actually an excellent show, which gets full for pretty much every performance even on quieter days, but it's remained unchanged for 10 years, so I guess it's time to retire it. I'm assuming this means that a new show will be coming to the theatre that currently houses it, though there's no mention of that yet.
Currently, it's a collection of songs/scenes from a bunch of different Disney films, some that you don't really hear around other Disney parks/shows:
- The Golden Mickeys Song
- You've Got a Friend in Me (Toy Story)
- Out There (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)
- Son of Man (Tarzan)
- I'll Make a Man Out of You (Mulan)
- Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride (Lilo & Stitch)
- Under the Sea (The Little Mermaid)
- Something There (Beauty and the Beast)
- Beauty and the Beast )Beauty and the Beast)
- When You Wish upon a Star
- Reprise of The Golden Mickeys Song

I've thought for a while that they could do with changing it up a little, putting some different songs/scenes in etc., but I didn't think that they'd retire it completely since it's still so popular. I wouldn't be surprised if something else is already being worked on and the theatre will reopen sooner rather than later. Closing on July 26th, which will be right at the start of their peak summer season seems a little strange really.
One of Hong Kong Disneyland’s longest running shows, “The Golden Mickeys” Finale is a Broadway-style award ceremony hosted by Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and Pluto. This attraction showcases classic scenes from Toy Story, Tarzan, Mulan, Lilo and Stitch, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and other beloved Disney tales. Extravagant costumes, musical theater song-and-dance routines, real time animation, 3D effects and classic movie scenes delight audiences of all ages.
After almost 10 years performing in front of millions of children and their families, “The Golden Mickeys” is coming to an end. Hong Kong Disneyland would like to take this chance to invite Magic Access Members to watch their favorite Disney characters onstage in this live show for one very special final performance.
From now till July 2, Magic Access Members will only need to answer one simple question and share what their favorite scene is from “The Golden Mickeys” to win a chance to see the special farewell show.
