New RCDB picture viewer

Didn't know where else to post this, so I just made a topic.

So RCDB apparently has a new photo viewer on their site. It makes so you can see all photos in a line on the overview page, and you can scroll through them(9 pictures per scroll section). The individual picture viewer is also better, with a new sliding animation. It's very Facebook-esque.

Like I said, didn't know where else to put this. Mods, move as needed.

I like it. I think...

I think it's better than the one they had before, as I think scanning through the thumbnails is a bit more user friendly.

I've never really liked image viewers that pop-out and sit over the screen behind, but this one is a little nicer than the usual type (like how RCDB used to be).

Although, have they now made it even harder to post the pictures on the forums? That's a shame... :( Unless I'm missing something.

You can still pick how you view the site. I keep mine on Preferences - bling - HTML 4

That should let you still link to photos and such. Ex: http://rcdb.com/13207.htm?p=62686
I meant embedding them, sorry. I don't think you can embed the photos from the new format?

Like the new viewer, though unfortunate to lose the ability (again) to embed photos.

Let me test something.

Hey, I got it! You need to go into Chrome, go to 'Inspect Element", and under the 'Sytles' tab should be the image URL. Just put that into the , and magic! Just be sure to site the source. ;)

Whilst this works, it's a faff.

I much prefer CanobieFan's option of changing the RCDB preferences to HTML4, and then just copying the URL of the image, but then you lose all reference of RCDB, the person who donated the image and the RCDB page.

New pic viewer is a lot better I think.

"Back page" works OK with it too (last version it took you back to the previous pic, not the page)

But I believe that its deliberately hard to grab the image's URL - "Partly by design to keep web-robots from trying to suck down all 45,000 pictures. Been a growing problem"
