New Owners for Barry Island Pleasure Park

Martyn B

I was just trying to look for some info on this little park and I stumbled across a website:

http://www.barryislandpleasurepark.co.uk/index.html

Which mentions about the new owners, and new rides for 2011, including a Booster and an Extreme Orbiter..

Good to see they're making their mark already. Getting rid of that rotting Pinfari was a good start to be honest.

Edit: Just read an article on Joyland Books... sounds like this is another Pleasureland situation where the actual park closed in 2009, and since then a travelling fair has operated on its site... until now I guess.

As far as I'm aware Barry is operating in a funfair-like manner, with various rides appearing throughout the season. That's William Danter's extreme - It was new last summer and travels the fair circuits, my Dad and I are good mates with him. As far as I'm aware it was only there for the school half-term holidays.

sounds like this is another Pleasureland situation

Speaking of which.. Abie Danter's new travelling Starshape was at Pleasureland over the May holidays too!

Yeah, the 2 new rides are gone already. The place is DUMP, and I mean fugging DUMP. Whatever did the previous owners do the palce?

The Evolution is just falling apart, as is the Log Flume, Jungle River ride and Ghost train, all of which are permant 'theme park' rides. The new owners certainly have their work cut with it, but they've obviously made a promising start by getting rid of the other decaying ride, the Pinfari which is now at Clacton. God, if that was still there, the place would just be unreal, it was surreal enough as it was. It was honestly like walking around an abandoned park.

As somebody who gives not much of a **** about popular telly shows (X Factor an exception), when I saw this photo...

...on the history page, I thought it was some random people distressed in the park.

I have since read the page properly and now know they are characters from Gavin and Stacey, Being Human, Not Going out, or the Sarah Jane Adventures.

Nope. Just googled it and found it's a Doctor Who spin off, so it's no wonder I had no idea.

I know of Gavin and Stacy and there's that "fat bloke from Gavin and Stacy", but I've never seen it, but I woudln't know which one was which!

Hmm, do you reckon it's worth slipping in a joke about our gavin? Or would it be too obvious?

But yeah, new owners! w00t and so forth!

You'd certainly never catch me doing anything so obvious...

[/no attempt in the slightest to keep things on topic] ;)

Seriously, the pictures do not portray how bad that place was, and I'm gutted that I didn't get a picture of the old Ghost Train, as that was really in a bad state. I do hope they can get the old permanent attractinos, such as the River Ride, Log Flume and Ghost train up and running again, if not, it will basically just become another Pleasureland.
