Darien Lake are getting one of those Giant Loops, y'know, those things that Six Flags are classing as new coaster for 2015.

I've not started this topic in Rollercoaster or Other Ride Construction because I don't know if it's a red or not. Hence the poll.

So we'll vote for a few days and then I'll move it depending on CF's opinion.

Here's the news article:
DARIEN, N.Y. (WIVB) — Darien Lake Theme Park may be getting a new roller coaster this year.

The amusement park went before the Genesee County planning board Thursday with a site plan for the new attraction that would replace another ride, the UFO.

The Batavia Daily News reports that the proposed ride is The Larson Giant Loop, a 73 foot high roller coaster that takes passenger for a 360-degree spin.

The town of Darien will need to give its approval for the roller coaster plan to proceed.

Similar roller coasters are making a debut at four Six Flag Theme Parks in 2015.

Coaster or not?

I don't think they are Coasters I mainly think of them as Flat Rides with an aspect of Rollercoaster.

These are not coasters, it was just a cheap way for Six Flags to say that they have installed a coaster in almost every park in the chain this year.

Definitely a flat. If these are coasters, then so are Disk'O-s etc. and even log flumes... Just because you sit in what looks like a coaster train, doesn't make it a coaster in my opinion. You have to draw a line somewhere, and while I do still count powered and water coasters, I would never count these.

Is it on RCDB? Until that point, good luck counting it.

I voted yes because things like the Intamin Half Pipe get classified as coasters, and they don't even have trains like the Larson Giant Loop does!

Sure, the sensation of the Giant Loop will merely be that of a flat ride; but isn't that the case with things like Half Pipes / shorter Skyloops anyway?

Then again, after watching a video, it's 'powered' motion makes this ride more akin to a pirate ship. There is little to no coasting.

Sigh. I don't know. This cred debate is leading me in circles ;)

What's a red? I'm still not up on all these British sayings. :P

It's a cred without the C, and blamed on Apple's autocorrect.

Nah, that isn't a coaster by any means :)

Slightly off-topic, but would you count I.E. Park Drifter (currently the only one is located in Sochi Park) as a coaster or not?
It looks more like a full-circuit Disk-O, but it still seems to be more of a traditional ride after all.

Definitely not. Is this slowly becoming a fad between large parks? Buying ring of fires and calling them coasters?

The parks are marketing them as roller coasters because Larson says they are "roller coasters." Six Flags is using that marketing to try and bolster their line-ups on a budget. 4 of these things are going to cost well under half of a small coaster, like Wooden Warrior or Untamed.

I get autocorrected to creed :P

I would purely base whether I would count it or not upon Coaster Count. If it is on there, it's a cred, if it isn't, then it's not. Having said that, in my opinion those Ridge Rider things don't count. Purely looking at it (and I can't get on Coaster Count at the moment to look) I'd say it isn't a creed (SEE!) but Coaster Count could help me change my mind

Not a coaster. And if this means Darien Lake goes another 5+years without a coaster because this is a coaster i'll be quite unhappy. CNL sell the **** park already you're killing it.

Clearly not. These things have been around for years and this hadn't even been up for discussion until Six Flags' marketing department decided to be slightly economical with the truth.
