Millenium Force - Good or plain overrated?

Pingu on drugs

Roller Poster
Millenium Force has always been the roller coaster I have wanted to ride. For some reason the first time I saw it, there was a part of me thinking "I have to ride this before I die". But recently a lot of people have been hating on MF, and so I would like to know people's opinion on this. Is Millenium Force a good ride and worth a fairly big wait, or is it hugely overrated? Thank you.

Millennium Force looks absolutely fantastic. It's one of my favourite looking coasters at Cedar Point (and anywhere really). It's so massive and I think it actually looks bigger than Top Thrill Dragster from across the park because of it's massive structure.

The actual ride experience on the other hand... not so much. The first drop is amazing, loads of airtime and of course the fantastic view. After that there isn't much in the way of airtime. There was more than I was expecting (after hearing such bad things about it), but it feels more like a B&M than an Intamin. The only good thing about the ride after the first drop is the speed. It really does feel exceptionally fast.

So, is it over-rated? No, I think it's dropped a bit by enthusiasts standards, especially compared to it's more recent counterpart, I305. I think there isn't actually a lot of hype for it anymore, but I don't agree with all the bad-press it has been gathering. It's still a great ride, and worth the wait, but it's not quite as good as it looks.

It is a bit of both. It is a very good ride that delivers a pleasing experience, airtime, speed and mild forces. It is a ride that I would willingly wait a 2 hour wait, max, as that wait is usually over within an hour due to the ride staff doing everything properly.

This is also HUGELY overrated. There are some g-forces experienced during the ride, but it is not to the extent that others praise it for. The airtime that others have claimed it has are not there either. Yes, it has its moments, but its more or less a 'sit in this car, on this side' experience.

If you go in expecting the most amazing ride of yor life, you will be sorely disappointed. Go in expecting an average ride, with less than stellar ride experience, your mind will be blown. The ride is abover average in some areas, lacking in others and mediocore for he rest. Basically, go in with an expectation of faster than magnum with less air and you should't be disappointed.

Edit: Just realized you havent been to CP before, base your expectation off of the most airtime filled hyper you have ridden and you should be good I think....

Switching between the hideouts'...

I think it's highly overrated. If you really look at the layout, its not good at all. A couple hills and a couple overbanked turns. Like already said, the first drop is great, but after that it is pretty boring. Sure there is some floater airtime on the 3 hills, but its just not very intense. For me personally, it seems to "stretched out." There are no sharp turns or banks, or quick hills, if you know what I mean.

The most airtime filled hyper? I struggle to think any I have been on... But I am sure that compared to coasters in England, it will be quite good :)

What Hixee said. I rode that thing so many times I got desensitized to the goodness. The drop is still fantastic.

I've not been on it but I imagine it's a bit like the Big One. It's huge and has a fantastic first drop followed by a decent sized layout, but then the designers forgot what makes a roller coaster exciting so filled it with drawn out or slow hills and turns.

I thought it was pretty good when I rode it. The drop itself makes it worth riding, yea the airtime isn't amazing when comparing to other coasters, but i can see why people would think it was overrated. It does tend to get a little more attention than it deserves.

Except it's a KILLION times better than PMBO.

I really liked Millenium Force. Sure, after the first drop it's not the most forceful of coasters, but I didn't find it to be anywhere near the "forceless" ride that so many people label it as either.

And yeah, it's in no way comparable to PMBO. Yes, they both "suffer" from great first drop syndrome, but the drop on MF is a lot, lot better. Plus, what follows is decent; it's far, far from terrible, unlike PMBO.

It is not the best thing ever, but it is fun. It is a ride you will come off with a smile on your face, but it won't blow your mind ala Texas Giant.

Perfect.

I remember riding a reconstuction of it on Nolimits and being really dissapointed at how much of the ride is just banked turns, and tunnels

^But the banked turns and tunnels at 90mph IN-REAL-LIFE are amazing. ;)

^^If you didn't enjoy "riding" it via your computer screen, then you'll hate it in real life. If you ever find yourself at Cedar Point, you should probably just skip it completely and get a few rerides on Iron Dragon.

I could not disagree with you more.

Millenium Force has zero sense of speed, zero sense of height, the first drop is good at best, it doesn't do anything, it's not just forceless it's not even visually impressive to ride.

PMBO is an infinitely better ride, the first drop is 100x better, it's far more forceful, it does interesting (wrong?) Arrow maneuvers of stupidity which are fun, the sense of height is insane especially on the turn around, it feels fast with heavy wind battering, it's got a couple of forceful dives.

I don't honestly understand why people hate PMBO, it's not just a great first drop, it's great fun throughout its circuit. Unconventionally fun, yes, but it's still an infinitely better ride than that waste of gigantic space at CP which doesn't do ANYTHING. It just dicks about in the air, but because it's CP it doesn't even feel very tall because you're surrounded by other really tall stuff.

So yeah, I'm in the "Millenium Force is hugely overrated" camp. It might be the worst offender in the world in my book.

I think it really depends on what you're looking to get out of it.

Personally I like Millennium Force, but it's only because I find the coaster extremely relaxing and purely enjoyable. It's not like it gives great airtime, or force, or even diversity in the elements/turns, but it's smooth. Smooth and fast, and that's always a good thing.

I feel like MF is just one of those rides I can just sit back and let the coaster do its work. I can just enjoy the speed and views, and it allows for that.

So for me, it's not a top tier coaster, but it's a very good ride regardless.

I have come to a conclusion that I would enjoy it. Cheetah Hunt at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay wasn't particular thrilling, or even fast, but I really enjoyed it. Moving around the track and weaving in and out of canyons was great fun. MF seems to be a little like that, not incredibly forceful, but lots of speed, and a ride which isn't always thrilling, but it is fun. Anyway, I think that PMBO is a piece of SH*T apart from the first drop (only on the back though).

Exactly, why its my Favourite coaster right now :P For me it doesn't have to be super fast or crazy inversions for it to be enjoyable. Don't get me wrong i love coming of a coaster dizzy and disoriented but Cheetah Hunt was breath taking to ride after Montu XD

Back on topic, having only ridden Millennium Force once, i can't say I'm an expert on it but it was an enjoyable enough ride...though total overrated for it's type of coaster.
