Jordan does a Disney for New Year 2011

Right, this is going to be a bit of a long one seeing as I was there for two weeks and we did lots!

You can also expect a few awful photos taken by yours truly thrown in.

Anyway, I'll break it down into the days we did parks, unless you are all extremely interested in the few shopping trips I indulged in in Orlando, which I doubt you are ;].

Ok then, Day One.

We headed out to Orlando on the 27th December but our first full day was the 28th which we spent at the Magic Kingdom, so I'll start there =D

Basically, I knew the weather wasn't going to be blazing sunshine, but our first morning in Orlando there was actually frost on the cars. Frost. In Orland. What?! Hmm, I guess it's going to be colder than we first thought *goes back inside to grab extra jacket*.

When we got to the park there were a few cars there, but nothing that suggested the heaving crowds we would later encounter throughout our day. So we got onto the trams that take you to the monorail/ferry stations and it was freezing. Like, bitterly cold. I was a little downhearted but only as downhearted as you can get when you're heading towards a day at the Magic Kingdom.

We chose to take the ferry over as, as a family, we feel this is the most magical way to get across the water. At least for the first time anyway. I find it all quite exciting hehe =D Again, I can't describe to you how bitterly cold it was, my hands and feet were blue!

Anyway, we finally got into the park and once we'd gone under the station it became apparent that we would be in for a day of queuing, the park was rammed. We headed straight into Main Street for the necessary photo taking/ character meeting before making our way over to Splash Mountain.

As we walked towards Frontierland, the sound of overly cheesy, happy Disney music began to creep up louder and louder behind us. This can only mean one thing. Parade. Usually, if it were just my immediate family we would take this as a sign that the queues were a little bit shorter because everyone would stop to watch, however I was there with my entire family, including a few first timers and some younger ones. I think this parade was called the Block Party or something similar? Anyway, I usually think parades are pants but this one was pretty great, it really got everyone into the mood and there were a few characters I'd never seen before (Sebastian, which is quite possibly the funniest costume ever!). The parade stopped around the hub, which is where we were when we got caught up in all the Disney madness and suddenly found ourselves dancing in a street party with the likes of Jessie, Genie and various people on stilts in silly costumes. Again, I usually just ignore this sort of nonsense but it was a really good way to get everyone in the Disney mood to start the holiday.

When we got to Frontierland you literally could not see the ground you were walking on because of the crowds, so we grabbed a FastPass for Big Thunder and ran straight to the front of the queue for Splash Mountain which had just opened. It broke down. Luckily we didn't have to wait too long and after about 10 minutes we were going again. Hooray! I like Splash Mountain, tis a shame that Disney withdrew Song of the South for being racist =[

Anyway, the rest of the day basically consisted of fighting our way through crowds and queueing for silly amounts of time. I've only ever been in May or July and have only ever really queued 20 minutes maximum for everything, but today 50 minutes was a short queue to us, unluckily. We did get a fair bit done, but due to the crowding rides such as Haunted Mansion, which I feel requires a bit more time walking around and taking in rather than being rushed through a queue, were spoiled in my opinion.

All the Fast Passes by the time we had used our ones for BTM had gone past 10pm so we saw no point in getting any others and just faced the queues. We ended our day with some delicious cinnamon buns in a little bakery at the end of Main Street, which itself was beautifully lit up all Christmassy with fake snow, how romantic.

Manic, knackering, yet still amazing and magical first day in Orlando!

I loved that parade your saw, people were able to dance etc really good happy fun.

That boat made us cold as well, I could not feel my hands.

I had read that the park was at capacity they 1st few days you were there.

^Ha.

I remember seeing all the Twitter updates from Screamscape saying how busy all the Orlando and California parks were. Sounds horrible with all those crowds. The parade sounds cool, I only hear good things about it so I'm glad to let ya know that DLP is having something similar this year.

What hotel did you stay at?

We always stay at a little resort called Bahama Bay, they're all really lovely apartments owned by people who then rent them out. They're real exotic and holidayish haha. I've never stayed in a Disney Hotel in Orlando, the holiday is expensive enough without the extra Disney charge to stay in one of their places. Shame, because there's a few I'd really like to check out, oh well, maybe when I win the lottery, eh?

Some do yes but when you work out the $14 a day parking and other things you get like extra hours it balances out tbh.

I used to always think staying at Disney was more expensive, but when I sat down priced it all up it was the same as staying at the same star rating off site. It all depends how many times you go to the Disney Parks and what time of year you go.

It looks really nice where you stayed Jordan.

Day Two - Busch Gardens

Again, woke up to frozen cars and frosty ground, made me moan a bit as I thought it might be a bit chilly but I thought the weather would heat up. Oh well, I'm going to Busch Gardens, hooray!

Anyway, we got to the park and had to activate our Orlando FlexTickets. The day previously we had done the same with our Disney tickets and it had taken them a matter of minutes to sort out 18 of them. We hoped for a similar output from the Busch Gardens staff. This was not to be.

After 45 minutes at the booth my dad and uncle had still not received the tickets. The woman just could not comprehend what they wanted and when the manager was summoned, she was similarly as useless. Urgh. After much deliberation we finally got our tickets and made our way into the park, yay. And the sun had decided to come out so it was warming up slightly.

We usually do Gwazi first then just follow the park round that way. However today Gwazi was boasting an hour queue so we decided to bypass this and head straight for SheiKra, which itself had a half hour queue. Oh =[ I've never queued more than ten minutes for anything in Busch Gardens so this was a tad annoying. SheiKra was amazing as with all Dive Machines. The drop is just so forecful and intense, Sam crapped himself going up the lifthill and even I admit that it is a lot higher than I remember it being. Still, awesome coaster.

We followed from SheiKra around towards the rest of Stanleyville which is just water rides, and seeing as I could still see my breath we skipped these and headed into Jungala for the first time.

If I'm honest I was slightly disappointed with the orangutan and white tiger enclosures, they seemed really ordinary. I know that's a strange thing to say but from things I'd heard about Jungala I assumed the new enclosures would be like, Animal Kingdom standard. Slightly disappointing. However this initial disappointment was soon put to one side as we entered the area with all the climbing frames and the jumping bean ride. It all looks fantastic and although I didn't try any of it out on this day, it all looked perfect, a really really good new addition to Busch Gardens.

The middle of the day was pretty standard if I'm honest, a few rides on Kumba and Montu, looked at animals etc, etc. I was having a little nose at the Cheetah Hunt construction but nobody else I was with was really interested so I only really got a glimpse. All I can say is that the thing is humungous, it covers such a massive area, I couldn't believe it! Can't wait to ride in the coming years =D

We then got into the queue for Gwazi which said half an hour. It ended up being about an hour and when we got into the station we saw why. The most shoddy, lazy operations from a coaster operating team I've ever witnessed in my life. There was no enthusiasm, no motivation to get the queue moving as quickly as possible. The trains weren't syncing so the racing element wasn't there but possibly the most annoying thing was the way they handled the fast track people. Instead of organising who goes where, or designating a few rows for said people, it was just a sort of free for all. Completely unorganised and really really frustrating, I waiting in the row gates for at least 15 minutes waiting for my ride. It was disgusting and I felt really let down by a park where I usually have a really really good day.

After the whole Gwazi fiasco we ran over to try and get seats for the Cirque Dreams show, only to be told that, half an hour before the show was due to start, the theatre was already full! Oh well, we'll do that later when we return in the holiday. So I saw this as an opportunity to run over and do the kiddie coaster Air Grover, yay! So I said to my dad what I wanted to do only for him to turn around and tell me no, I couldn't go and ride it and that I was being really selfish. =[. I cried. Haha ;]

And that is how I ended my second day in Florida =D

I can't believe it was that busy as such a time of year. It's really shocked me. I'd love to go over this time of year, it would just be so magical compared to the dullness of over here.

Still seems like you had a good time non-the-less. What did you do on New Years Eve Night? :)

What a difference a week makes, when we went every thing was walk on we were able to re ride once as well.

Jordan we found the staff like that as well, same at Sea World. Loads of people have been laid off and I think that is why they seem a bit down.

How did you find Kumba? We could only ride it twice due to how rough and loud it was.

See, I heard you and Mark say that Kumba was unbearable so when I rode I had that in mind and prepared myself, and actually found it really OK. Usually I can only ride once, maybe twice, but I had many re-rides this time round because it was so smooth, weird...

I suppose I should do day 3 then =]

Day 3

Day 3 was Sam's 22nd birthday and we had booked up for him to have breakfast with the Grinch in IoA. We had to be in the park for 8am, so we thought lovely. We'll get in the park earlier than everyone else, have breakfast then head straight over to Potterland, sweet.

Breakfast was fantastic! Well, the whole Grinch thing was fantastic. The guy playing the Grinch was bloody excellent, really in character, funny, rude, obnoxious and just plain hilarious. There was also a few people dressed as Whos and the Cat in the Hat, for some reason. Twas a silly morning of fun. The food was terrible though, literally all cakes and that sort of thing which I find too much to eat in the morning.

Anyway, after breakfast we sped over to Potterland, only to be diverted through to Jurassic Park, then through to Toon Lagoon, then through to Marvel, where the queue to get into the land began. ****. A 3 hour wait just to get into the land, and then more queueing from then on to get onto the rides? No way. And get this, you'd think hmm, because the queue is this long for Potter, everything else must be walk on. Wrong. Hulk had a three hour queue, Spidey had one and a half hours, pretty much like this all over the park. So we though, sod this, we'll go over to the Studios.

We watched the Grinch show first. It was crap, nothing really more I can say about that.

So we made our way into the Studios which was really busy but not half as busy as IoA. We all wanted to ride Rockit, so we jumped into the 75min queue. About 10 minutes in I see a guy walk past me to have a go at some queue jumpers, look down at his name tag. 'Stephen'. So I tap him on the shoulder, 'Hello!'. UC, lol. He goes, 'give me a few minutes' and then comes back with not only a red stamped fast pass for everyone in my party (18) so we could ride Potter, but also takes all of us who were riding through the back way, up the elevator and straight onto Rockit. Woop! It broke down, which ruined it a little bit but still, amazing gesture. We went back later in the day and he let us up to ride.

I LOVED Rockit. Bit of Motley Crue blasting in my ears, vertical lift hill (which I love for some reason) and just a really fun, long ride. I can't believe how long it is, it just seems to go on forever but doesn't get boring? Amazing how they've tucked it in as well, I'd have loved to have had a ton of re-rides but with the park being so busy we just couldn't.

So then we rode The Mummy, which I think was about a 20 min wait and then walked over to The Simpsons, which we waited one and a half hours for. Urgh. The queue is hell, it's like Jacob's ladder, just keeps going on and on and on and on. And boring, cattlepen style loathesome queue. The Simpsons jokes poking fun at theme parks were clever and funny, but got old quite quick. When we got to the top we could see why the queue was moving so damn slow. Operations were unorganised and slow, with a real lack of urgency. Anyway, I thought the ride was quite a lot of fun. Too bad if you're short like me and sit in the back you're view is obscured quite a bit, but a fun little thing nonetheless, a great re-theme.

Question: Have they kept the same ride settings from Back to the Future? It felt really familiar.

I believe we then left and had dinner at Bubba Gumps, which is my favourite because I LOVE shrimp. Oh my god I could live in that place. Yummmmmm.

We then headed back into IoA with the hope that people would have left with it being the evening, but to no avail. Potterland was still a 3 hour queue to get into so we couldn't even use our wonderful passes Stephen gave us to ride the bloody thing. Oh, and on the way in some people who were leaving gave us their fasttrack things because they were done with them for the day. So now we not only had the stamped passes from Stephen, we now had a bunch of unlimited fasttracks too. Sweet, credit time, I thought to myself. So I nabbed my little cousin and headed straight for Pteranodon Flyers, only to be told this attraction doesn't have fasttrack and was currently boasting an hour wait! Boooo =[[[

So the rest of my family left, leaving just me, Sam, my brother Jess and my mum and dad to whore our passes nightriding on Hulk, Spiderman and Cat in the Hat.

The day ended quite well considering it had started off so crap =].

Again I read about IoA being at capacity when you were there :(

I think we must have either got a bad train on Kumba no idea :(

1st go on Rockit I put on "I will Survive" never have I laughed so much on a coaster, great fun :) Glad you enjoyed it :)

The Simpson ride, I have no idea how they load that thing either. There seems no order or anything and people who get there after get on before, its all very strange.

Have my ORP from Rockit while I'm here.

Ma and Pa front row, then me, then Sam dancing like a moron, then Harley (the blonde), then Jess (the idiot screaming like an idiot).

^ And what about those who don't and won't do Facebook?

*crosses fingers*

Yes.

I actually do and think it's just lazy to tell people to go look on Facebook. :P
