Intimidator name at Caro and KD to go bye-bye?

Just saw this on Carowinds Connection:

They're selling all Intimidator and Intimidator 305 merch for a whopping 40% off. With these coasters having IP themes and being a nice, happy number of five years old, to me this looks like the end of a license. What do you think they'll do with them? Rename them? Paint them? Relocate both to Kings Island so I can ride them whenever? ;) What do you think they do?

Re: Intrimidator name at Caro and KD to go bye-bye?

I've never seen the name Intrimidator at either park, but Intimidator's licence is probably near the end of it's deal. They'll probably renew the license. If not, who knows? Centurion 305? :P

Re: Intrimidator name at Caro and KD to go bye-bye?

License is up for renewal and Cedar Fair wants to pay less, just like Six Flags did with so many IPs a few years ago. Six Flags renamed all their attractions in question and Cedar Fair will do likewise, thus the merch sell off. Simple as...
However, guessing what the new names will be isn't as simple...

Ack, **** you, Autocorrect, I did that from my phone!

Yeah, with the license expiring I think they'll go the route they went when the Paramount IP licenses expired and just give them some really lame, basic name. :( Start Line, Pit Stop (as Tom suggested), Stock Car Thunder, Burnt Rubber, or something equally bad. SpeedWay is the one I've thought of I could really see them doing.

Looking at a thing of NASCAR terms, some terms that would probably make good coaster names are Pole Position, Downforce, and Aero Push.

How do I feel about this? Mixed. On one hand, Intimidator 305 was the coaster that got me into the hobby and I really don't like seeing that coaster renamed so soon. On the other hand, however, I learned to hate NASCAR growing up hearing my dad talk about it constantly, and eventually it got too stupid even for him, so even if it keeps the stock car theme (which I bet it does, and that really fits the rides) seeing the blatant NASCAR branding taken away wouldn't exactly upset me one bit. However, I hope they do keep the "Gentlemen, start your engines!" on both of them. The first time I ever got legitimately goonishly excited over a coaster was strapped into I-305 hearing that before we got yanked out of the station. It really sets the mood for the ride on both and I really hope it stays.

No, they can't rename my favourite coaster <///3

Intimidator isn't an amazing name, but they suit the rides themselves, as well as the theme. Sorry Jarrett, but I hate all the names you suggested; fair enough for trying though because I can't think of anything better :)

I don't usually have a problem with name changes, but as it's my favourite coaster, it makes me sad (how dare Cedar Fair not consider me). Intimidator 305 forever <3

That's the thing. It's the NASCAR IP that's costing them so much and I don't see them using that theme at all anymore - much like the Evel Knievel theme changing to generic American Thunder.

^Agreed.

I honestly think this will just change to something really generic.

I wouldn't even put it past KD to change it to just "I305" ha.

I really hope that they completely retheme the coasters. But I know that they'll literally just take down anything that says 'Intimidator' and leave the rest of the theming as it is.

Completely agree with you. I really have a feeling that this will just be a repeat of what's happened to the Top Guns around the country. Change the name to something stupid that has to do with racing (seriously, I'm not sure I wouldn't put money on SpeedWay and SpeedWay 305) and remove anything with Dale Ernhardt on it and just let the ride's theming slowly and painfully wither.

I've seen themes for three Kings Island rides slowly wither away over the years under Cedar Fair. Adventure Express used to be phenomenal and now you get the vibe they completely forgot it was there. Stunt Coaster's actually done an okay job retaining its theme but they uglied up the trains bigtime when they removed the decals (something I think should be expected here) and while the splash needed to be removed for corrosion reasons, it's still sad they couldn't have found a way to keep it. But the biggest offender here is The Bat. As Top Gun, it was amazing. Walking out there was a giant Gillette Mach 3 advertisement with a fighter jet on it, the station was really well-themed and hearing the Top Gun theme before you boarded did an awesome job getting you pumped to ride, it was incredible what Paramount did. However, once Cedar Fair came in, that ride got absolutely screwed. No more playing cards from the movie in the station, no more fighter jet ad walking out, and for the icing on the cake, they slapped that god-awful Flight Deck name on it. Sadly, I think this is what happens to the Intimidators.

Sorry to double post, but I wanted to get this idea out in case it's announced with tomorrow's little death in the industry. Could we see Carowinds allow Thunder Road to live on through Intimidator? Intimidator was themed to NASCAR which got its start from moonshining (Thunder Road's original theme) and it's generic enough to work with the NASCAR theme it currently has. They should still have the trademark and it would be a good tribute to the out-and-back design that helped inspire the concept of the hypercoaster in the first place.

I feel a bit more skeptical about this applying to its bigger Intamin cousin in Virginia but I wouldn't rule it out.

You do realise that the management at Cedar Fair parks don't give a **** about nostalgia, right? And how confusing would it be to rename their second biggest draw to a coaster they've just killed off. The public just won't get it.

No, Jarrett. Just No.
