How many First Generation Intamin Drop Towers are left?

Ollie

CF Legend
Simple question. How many First Generation Intamin Drop Towers are left?

I really want to ride one. I know people say they're not that great but I really like unique rides. Hec I WANT to ride a Screaming Squirrel. :P

So yeah how many are left, where are they and how many are in Europe and America?
Just want to see what my chances of ever getting on one are as there's not that many left and they all seem to be closing so it's getting harder and harder to find one. :P

I think the only one in Europe still operating is at Movieland Studios in Italy, under the name "Hollywood Tower". :)

There are 5 remaining in operation, Hollywood Tower is the only one left in Europe as mentioned above.
Demon Drop at Dorney Park is the only remaining one in the US, leaving one in Brazil and two in China.

I done the one in Italy and thought it was better than newer drop towers, the air time and feeling was so much better :)

The one at Dorney was awful.

Sure, the airtime is good, but as far as I was concerned the rest of it was just hellish and no amount of airtime could make it good.

I'm guessing that you read the Wikipedia article, you are wrong (china =/= Japan...) as is Wikipedia, but not as wrong...

I'm pretty sure that there are 7 still in operations:
Demon Drop - Dorney Park, US
Hollywood Tower - Movieland Studios, IT
Torre do Terror - Beto Carrero World, BZ
Free Fall - Himeji Central Park, JP
Free Fall - Nagashima Spaland, JP
Free Fall - Tokyo Summerland, JP
Free Fall - Rusutsu Resort, JP

Not sure if there are any more than these, but all of the above have been checked to be on the park web-page so they are still listed as operational.

Thanks. Seems like my best chance is to try and get to the one at Movie Park. It looks like a great park anyway. Just a shame I couldn't go on the EuroLive.

If you had to guess how long would you give it be we see the 1st gen towers vanish completely? Knowing my luck I'll finally be able to afford to go to Italy and it'll be scrapped.

^ Hard to say really, as long as Intamin supply spares (don't know if they do any longer) and that parks can justify the costs of keeping them running. Since there have been a massive decline of these rides in the past few years then some may have bought them cheap and cannibalized them for as many parts that are still usable.

But seeing that the non Japanese ones are all pretty recent additions to the parks then they seem to see that there is hope for them to stay a few years at least...
Also going to Japan could be another option, since they really keep their rides running a lot longer than any other parks I have seen.

That. Of course, the ride really had its days tbh.. as I can re-ride it over and over somedays and not even want to hop on others. Understandable with the roughness.

I doubt they'll be scrapping the one in MovieLand any time soon, Ollie, it seemed to be the park's main attraction. Don't fret ;] (They are amazing by the way, I don't really like drop towers but this was really very good =])

I really want to ride one of these too, although when I'm old enough to go myself, they probably would've all gone. (Unless anyone wants to take me...? :P)

The one at SFMM was still operating when I went, but we didn't ride it </3

Therefore, I was really intrigued, and pleased, to have the chance to ride the one at Movieland. I was actually pretty terrified when I got on. The thing is, on almost all rides you know roughly what to expect from the ride experience, but with this I had no idea. The airtime on the drop is actually amazing. Better than any newer design tower I've been on. The +G's as you level out are obscenely intense. The drop back down to station level is vile. All in all, it is pretty horrible, but its more than worth it for that drop (and the unique experience) It was the only ride in the park that I bothered to re-ride.
