Highlights of your 2013 season

Jarrett

Most Obnoxious Member 2016
So with only a few weeks of operation left for most US seasonal parks, I think it's safe to say that, for the most part, the 2013 amusement season is starting to draw to a close. Shall we reminisce on it?

I'd like to know your...
*Best moment
*Best individual ride
*Funniest moment
*Scariest moment
*Strangest moment
*Favorite individual park visit
*Nerdiest moment
*Best non-coaster related thing to happen at a park
*Favorite new experience
*Least favorite anything (ride, visit, queue line, anything)

Feel free to answer all, some, or none. I just love hearing these things!

I'll start:
*Best moment- Winnin a queue jump pass at the GateKeeper plinko with my cousin and skipping a 3-hour opening line that was spilling out over by MaXair.
*Best individual ride: Millennium Force at night after the park closes while we were in line.
*Funniest moment: Towards Kings Island closing, both The Beast and Diamondback (their two big night rides) were packed. I went to The Beast (I think it's a better night ride than Diamondback is) and in the train before dispatch, the ride op asked "who thinks The Beast is better than Diamondback?" A bunch of cheers went out. Then he asked "who thinks Diamondback is better than The Beast?" I just hooted and clapped loudly. "Get out. Now." The ride op joked. For some reason it was hilarious.
Scariest- Getting dragged into Drop Tower by my cousin and sister because they get amusement of of my fear of heights.
Strangest- Going to KI with someone from another site and when we got to Flight Deck, it started raining. How'd I wait it out? Took a nap in the flight deck station!
Best visit: Spending 15.5 hours at Cedar Point with my cousin
Nerdiest: Tie between both times I saw the Banshee site for the first time and my first time seeing GateKeeper running
Best non-coaster- My first time eating Dollywood's cinnamon bread
Favorite new experience: As much as I hate open tower rides, I now like Power Tower's shot side.
Worst QUEUE WAIT: Spending 1.5 hours in line for Dragster with this rude lady in front of us that kept yelling at people around us. In addition to her sunny attitude, the ride hardware hurt my ears and I was nervous out of my mind since it was my first rocket AND first stratacoaster. And I know they're safe, but I DO NOT like being next to that cable during launch.

So that's my 2013. Post away!

Best Moment- Riding 69 coasters and 50 of them being new. I had 47 coming into the year and I got more this year than all previous years.

Best Ride- My favorite coaster Millennium Force!

Funniest Moment - Random obscenities on coasters and traveling with my family to Cedar Point.

Scariest Moment- First ride on TTD.

Strangest Moment-Having to explain what a "cred" is to my non coaster enthusiast friends.

Favorite Individual Park Visit- Easily Kennywood or Knoebels two awesome parks. Even thought I went to Cedar Point I loved both Kennywood and Knoebels better.

Nerdiest Moment- Thinking of any way to get on Jr. Gemini then coming home to find out Jarrett got on it!

Best Non coaster related thing at a park - People watching. Some odd ducks out there.

Favorite New Experience - Traveling, seeing new parks, and riding new coasters.

Least Favorite thing - Mantis, Corkscrew, everything being closed the first day at CP, and not getting my 100th this year.

Had a amazing 2013! It has finally came to close. I loved getting to go to all these places riding 69 coasters and 50 new coasters. 2014 has nothing on the horizon yet but hopefully it will be another great year. Thank you CF for a awesome year on the forums!

Best moment - A tie between ERT on Thunderbird and the special enthusiast-only ERT on Psyke Underground. I would put The Ultimate ERT up there, but my bruised knees tell me not to! :p

Best individual ride - Thunderbird. You can rarely go wrong with a GCI.

Funniest moment - Too many to mention, although the synchronised communal tooth brushing with Peep and Sue in the house of random awesomeness in De Panne really stands out.

Scariest moment - Watching Mushroom and Ian do the bungee at Lightwater. It's weird, I can watch "extreme sports" easily, but when it comes to people bungee jumping I hold my breath and can hardly watch.

Strangest moment - The tooth brushing, the random Coca Cola vending machine in Walibi Belgium that requires you to lift another to reach the coin slot, plus the singers in Plopsaland leading to the firework show that started singing some point in the afternoon and were still singing when we came back to the area about 3 hours later!

Favorite individual park visit - Plopsaland De Panne. Massively underrated and supremely themed with some excellent rides.

Nerdiest moment - Visiting Alton Towers for 90 minutes JUST to ride The Smiler for the cred!

Least favorite anything (ride, visit, queue line, anything) - The debacle that was the Go Karts at Power Park and the resultant faff as everyone got a refund.

My 2013 has really been dominated by the Finland trip and my Belgium/France trip, both of which were fantastic (bar the Go Kart incident). I've also managed to get to Chessington twice, Thorpe, Blackpool, Yorkshire and Alton Towers, and with still GhosterForce possibly to come, I'd say this year has been a very successful one for me. :)

Best Moment: Stepping through the front gates of BGW after a painful 6 hour drive. I only came from D.C, which should of only been 3 hours.

Best Individual Ride: Apollo's Chariot for the first time. Got spited day 1 of the trip but came back the next day.

Funniest Moment: Dropping pennies on Possessed @ Dorney with a friend. They float in front of you for a solid 3 seconds while you try to catch them. Great fun. As for funniest: I'll come back to this.

Scariest(Dumbest) Moment: Folding a paper airplane out of a ticket stub @ KD and bringing it with me on Drop Tower. They had a new rule this year where you had to hold your hands up and open them while doing restraint checks. I couldn't slip the plane into my pocket fast enough and the ride-op caught me. He seemed pretty pissed when he took it from me. I thought I was gonna get kicked off the ride. The second ride-op was fascinated by it and asked me if he could keep it...

Strangest Moment: Not seeing any pain on people faces while they sat on Skyrush's break run...+1 for Hershey opening the restraints up on the break run.

Favorite Individual Park: BGW. Great overall experience. They even ran all rides in the pouring rain. Hurts like hell though.

Nerdiest Moment: Calling out each element on Alpengeist. My friends were clueless.

Favorite New Experience: Apollo, Griffon

Least Favorite Anything: inspiteidator i305

Best moment - Shambhala. Sunset. Mid-train. Birthday. End of the day. Girlfriend. Awesome.
Best individual ride - Shambhala. Khan. Nemesis. Can't split them.
Funniest moment - On-ride DVD's of us two bricking it front row first go on Shambhala.
Scariest moment - As above
Strangest moment - Actually disappointing a few people by only greeting Furie before running off back when CF had a live for Smiler's faux opening day.
Favorite individual park visit - Tempted to go with Port Aventura but it's dominated the answers. Actually really enjoyed Adventure Island.
Nerdiest moment - Too many kiddy rides to remember.
Best non-coaster related thing to happen at a park - Horsehead squirting children on TukiTuki splash.
Least favorite anything (ride, visit, queue line, anything) - Queueing. Been somewhat spoilt in the last two years with the timings in that I've hardly had to queue. When I have however it's been utterly awful. Specifically, school kids.

Lets see...

*Best moment
Getting on (first train of the day, in the front row!) Mr.Freeze : Reverse Blast. Having been to SFStl 8 years earlier but missing it due to storms....

*Best individual ride
OUTLAW RUN, in the back row, at night, in the rain <3

*Funniest moment
Cheetah Hunt maybe 2 weeks ago. It was overcast but not raining when we got in line.... train launches into a downpour (they had closed the ride by the time we got back to the station and were in the process of cycling out the trains empty to unload all the loaded trains) I don't think I've ever laughed so much on that ride in my life.

*Scariest moment
Getting pulled over by the police at 2am for speed in Oklahoma going to my hotel after leaving Wonderland in Amarillo, Texas! Not only was I in the middle of nowhere, in a rental... I got pulled from my car and placed in the Police SUV..... :?

*Strangest moment
These vertical loops - http://www.flickr.com/photos/canobiefan/9410546799/

*Favorite individual park visit
Toss up between first trip back to Silver Dollar City since 05 or back to Canada's Wonderland since 07
(CW might have been better because it was fantastic to not have to rush around getting EVERY credit in)

*Nerdiest moment
Getting free rides on the coaster at Route 66 Carousel Park in Joplin, Missouri because the workers were so amused two adults came all the way to the park for their kiddie coaster (but we did the Ferris Wheel too!)

*Best non-coaster related thing to happen at a park
Getting to go to Canobie Lake's Halloween event, Screamfeast for the first time since 2009 (the year I moved to Florida) :')

*Favorite new experience
Getting to ride the stupid-fun Pipeline Express at Wild Water & Wheels in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtKe42DNUn0 I don't think I've been more amused with a ride so stupid in years.

*Least favorite anything (ride, visit, queue line, anything)
Hanging out on the side of the street next to a closed Celebration City and looking at Ozark Wildcat just rotting away, one of my top 10 woodies, slowly dieing. Or maybe my one trip to Six Flags Over Georgia all year and not even riding a single coaster because it was so damn busy!

*Best Moment
Outlaw Run's first drop
*Best Individual Ride
Outlaw Run
*Funniest Moment
Someone who thought I got my hand chopped off when I touched the supports on a Wacky Worm
*Scariest Moment
When I was riding Thunderhawk and it broke while I was on board
*Strangest Moment
Constantly seeing and riding with this group of girls throughout Worlds of Fun
*Favorite Individual Park
Silver Dollar City!!!
*Nerdiest Moment
Getting really mad when someone said Outlaw Run was the tallest wooden roller coaster in the world
*Best Non-Coaster related thing to happen at a park
When I walked around Silver Dollar City on my rainy second day and just took it all in
*Favorite New Experience
Yet again, Outlaw Run
*Least Favorite Anything
Colossus @ Thorpe Park being so unbelievably disappointing

*Best moment - Arriving at Cedar Point for the first time.

After driving 8 1/2 hours on my birthday, I stood in front of the gate and just admired how nice the new entrance plaza and Gatekeeper look from outside the park. This was the park that first got me interested in traveling to theme parks. That interest is what took me from GP to goon. I also had to delay this trip for a whole year due to a wedding I had to attend in Florida last year. I had finally arrived, it was my birthday, and I was standing face to face with a beautiful new coaster before I had even entered the park. My inner 12 year old was going crazy, and I remembering seeing the digital sign above the gate that said "Yes, you're there yet!" and just smiling. :--D

*Best individual ride - Prowler, Worlds of Fun

I will fully admit that I am a GCI fanboy. This, plus that fact that I had heard good things about this ride made me expect great things. Prowler delivered in a big way! It's fast, twisty, and ends with 5 big pops of airtime! This is one of the few rides that I can't find anything bad to say about it. This is why it is my #1.

*Funniest moment - Outlaw Run trying to take my shirt off.

Front row ride on Outlaw Run. See my avatar photo. I was showing nipple by the time we got to the barrel rolls.

*Favorite individual park visit - Cedar Point, see above.

*Nerdiest moment - Getting stopped on the MCBR on Mantis, and enjoying it.

I was enjoying a ride on Mantis (yes, I like Mantis), when we were suddenly stopped on the MCBR. This had never happened to me on any coaster, so I thought it was fun. We were only stopped for about 15-20 minutes. In that time the train rolled through Boneville below twice. We waved to the train both times. People on the train were pointing and waving back. It was good fun!

*Best non-coaster related thing to happen at a park - Winning a 4 pack of front of the line passes at Millenium Force Plinko

What's even better, is the guy accidentally handed me 2 passes for Maverick. Bonus Ride!

*Favorite new experience - Sky Ride - Cedar Point

Riding over the midway was a beautiful and fun experience. The view was great and you could just feel the energy of all the people having fun around you.

*Least favorite anything (ride, visit, queue line, anything)

Not being able to stop eating the delicious candy at Silver Dollar City, and nearly making myself sick.

Waiting in what was supposed to be a 45 min line for my first ride on Millenium Force. Due to breakdowns it turned into a 2 hour wait that went past park closing. However, the wait was worth it in the end. I enjoyed the ride, and my reaction on the brake run was "Millennium Forceless my ass!"

It's been a great season for me!

I AM going to BGT in a few weeks (which may alter my selections a bit) but if that happened on Cheetah Hunt it would be SICK!!! The same thing happened to me on Maverick a few years ago (though just a drizzle) and it was so much fun!

My guess for your 2014 highlights:
Riding Flying Turns with 6 grown men (I actually think that would be more fun than La Vibora, but I've been on neither so I can't make that call) but it still sounds fun! I've seen you post about that before so once I saw you had posted here I was sure that would be somewhere in your highlights.

Wait, you were allowed to ride something at Cedar Point during a drizzle?! Shut the front door!

Best moment
- Going up the lift hill on Boulder Dash for the first time. Boulder Dash was either 1 or 2 on my to-do list, and I started getting super excited as we went up the lift hill.

Best individual ride
- Boulder Dash. New #1 Coaster

Funniest moment
- Ehh I dunno. Maybe riding Verbolten several times with a bunch of random people (some who had never ridden Verbolten before).

Scariest moment
- Queueing for Cyclone at SFNE, watching the train go along the track, and shaking a section of the track a little too much side-to-side.

Strangest moment
- My dad bought Quick Queues for BGW (even though I explicitly told him not to). We didn't need them, and I felt silly when we used them on Alpengeist which (like all the other rides at the park) was a walk on.

Favorite individual park/park visit
- Busch Gardens Williamsburg became one of my favorite parks (just behind Cedar Point) which added many top 10ers to my coaster count. The visit was also one of the best for me. We went in March (I think it opened the previous week), and the longest wait time was 20 minutes (but walk ons almost the entire time!).

Nerdiest moment
- While sitting in Zoomerang at Lake Compounce, waiting for it to go up the lift hill, I tried correcting the ride op who said that Boulder Dash has a top speed of 65 mph, but he just wouldn't listen. :|

Best non-coaster related thing to happen at a park
- Probably my general visit to BGW, with little to no wait times on each ride.

Favorite new experience
- Boulder Dash <3

Least favorite Ride
- Catwoman's Whip, loud, boring, uncomfortable, and slow (both the ride itself and the ride-ops)

Longest Queue
- An hour ten minutes for Bizarro, longest I've ever waited for that ride.

Overall (despite that fact that I don't do travel as much as other members here), it's been a great year. I visited two new theme parks (BGW and Lake Compounce), two old ones (Canobie and SFNE), picked up some new creds (i think only 10!), and got a new favorite coaster. I think 2014 will be much bigger!

Best moment - reaching 105 creds
Best Individual ride - Big Dipper
Funniest Moment - general lols at parks
Scariest moment - when I thought Family Star would spite me
Favourite park visit - Smiler open weekend day, Blackpool
Nerdiest moment - Goon pictures
Best non-coaster related thing to happen at a park - some of the rides excluding coasters at Blackpool
Favourite New Experience - Big Dipper
Least Favourite ride - Hero
Longest queue - 120 I think for The Smiler
Overall- Great season! Getting to 105 creds was awesome!

My Best moment was riding apollos chariot at night front row with fireworks going off at the same time. Epic
My favorite new ride of 2013 was easily El Toro! Fantastic! Especially front row at night!
My Funniest moment was riding apollos chariot with my friend in a light drizzle. We didn't realize that the rain would hurt so bad, so it felt like needles peircing my skin at 70 mph. It was quite hilarious.
My Favorite individual park visit was no doubt one of the best parks in the country-Six Flags Great Adventure!
My favorite non coaster related thing that happened was riding bonzai pipelines at Six Flags America for the first time. I loved it, it was so fun to experience!
My Least favorite coaster of 2013 was mind eraser at Six Flags America. Even as a front seat rider, I still found it to be insanely rough

*Best moment: Riding Phoenix with my dad and catching his glasses in the double down.

*Best individual ride: Closing ride on Apollo's Chariot at night.

*Funniest moment: Causing the ride ops on Roar (East) to reset their checking procedure for 15 minutes cause of their idiotic policies.

*Scariest moment: Disengaging a lap bar on Wild One when it was supposed to be engaged

*Favorite individual park visit: Knoebels

*Nerdiest moment: Calling the opening of Flying Turns

*Best non-coaster related thing to happen at a park: free pin for being on the 1,000th train on Verbolten on Season Pass Holder's night.

*Favorite new experience: Calling a dispatch on Verbolten, and pushing the button.

*Least favorite anything (ride, visit, queue line, anything): The holly bushes in Verbolten's queue.

It was just light enough that it didn't shut the ride down and didn't hurt while riding. I know water at those speeds is painful (I got hit in the eye with a stray water droplet on Mantis earlier that day...LEAST painful part of that experience!) but it just felt like water droplets sprinkling on you while it was running. It was just a "weird Ohio weather" on/off drizzle, too. It was over by the time we hit the brakes.

That whole night was a blur of brisket and too many guys trying to share too few blankets.
