A theme park inspired by the adventures of schoolboy wizard Harry Potter is to open in the US.
The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter will open at the Universal Orlando Resort, in Florida, in 2009.

Harry Potter author JK Rowling said: "The plans I've seen look incredibly exciting, and I don't think fans of the books or films will be disappointed."

The park will feature rides, shops and attractions based on Harry Potter locations like Hogwarts and Hogsmeade.

'Authentic'

Oscar-winning production designer Stuart Craig, who has worked on the Harry Potter films, is leading the creative design for the park to ensure it remains faithful to JK Rowling's vision.

"Our primary goal is to make sure this experience is an authentic extension of Harry Potter's world as it is portrayed in the books and films," he said Craig.

The Harry Potter series of books has been translated into 65 languages with more than 325 million copies sold worldwide.

The films, produced by Warner Bros, have grossed more than $3.5bn (£1.7bn) at the box office worldwide.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth film in the series, will open in cinemas on 13 July 2007.

The seventh and final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will be published on 21 July.

I think that this is a great idea for a park/new area.

I thought that it was just a new area at the side of dueling dragons as it has all been cleard there!

Jeez people, its a "Theme Park within a Theme Park," and it says, "within Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme park at the Universal Orlando Resort."

Anyways, it sounds and looks awesome. I'm still curious as to what rides are on there. And it kind of relieves me that this won't be replacing Lost Continent and not make Dueling Dragons into some HP themed invert. Phew...

I thought of them taking that area over aslwell when i heard about the harry potter theme as dragons and unicorns kinda go into the story of witches and wizards!

I'd love to see how the park will turn out, but I can't think of many good rides that would look good with Harry Potter theming.
I've never been too interested in Harry Potter though so that's probably why..
But Universal will surely make a good job out of it.

For all that wonder

It is going to replace Lost Continent in Islands. It is NOT a new theme park. When they say park within a park, it's just like saying Marvel Islands is a Park within a park. Islands has 0 room to add an extensive new island.

Anyways, I'd expect to see some pretty impressive attractions. I'm willing to bet on some Hogwarts walkthrough of some sort. Also, expect to see a coaster in there somewhere.

On another note, the concepts make it look brilliant. I cant wait for '09!

They have got room to expand, there is a picture on themeparkreview showing where it could go!

Sorry when I 1st read it I missed the part about that its being built withing Islands of Adventure.

I am going there later this year looks like I will be going back in a few years again lol.

I think they will have some good things in there and the theming will be stunning.

Have you ever been to IoA?

The place is crammed together as is. LC is gone. End of story.

It's going to have a Hogwarts Express themed coaster, it was on the local news today.

Sounds good, but I live like 45 minuets away from where they film the outside scenes of Hogwarts so theres now need for me to go to IOA, I got the real thing :p

Bet thats just going to be the flying unicorn rethemed.

Or Universal own the rights to that weird robocoaster thing, so hopefully it will be that.

I don't really like the idea of this to be honest, I like lost continent as it is they don't need to retheme it.

Also, isn't Harry Potter Warner Bros?

^Yeah, Warner Bros do own Harry, I brought that up in a different topic about this, I don't know what the crack is with that like.

I'm willing to bet that is a new ride altogether. This will not be a solely kid land because just as many adults love HP ad kids. Anyways, It is taking a portion of LC and a "previously unused area"

Definatley not. They are not going to spend the time, effort, and money on such a crappy ride. My guess is they will replace the ride with a HP themed coaster.

While I like the LC the way it is, it NEEDS a retheme. Not only does it need a retheme but this new addition will attract way more guests. They needed something new to spark IOA and I believe this could do it.

I was skeptical at the idea of HP coming and replacing the LC at first. But as time went on I began to like the idea more and more. It's one of the top Book/Movie series out there and is family oriented. Something IOA focuses on. Now that I think about it, if something where to replace the LC which is themed like medieval/mystical than I would want Lord of the Rings or HP to replace it. So now I'm all for HP, and am very excited for '09.

From the FAQ
We're planning a collection of rides....in an exciting way that guests have never experienced before.
That includes a new State-of-the art attraction.

Does that mean a robo coaster? *fingers crossed*

If they do too much to LC, I'll be well upset.

It was probably my favorite themed of all the Islands, and Potter is a ****ty replacement for whatever parts they kill for it.

At least it's not Lord of the ****ing Rings!

It's a retheme. They are going to change a lot of the LC. And why are you so negative about this.
