If you haven't noticed already or your Flash is broken on your computer, it's the holiday season here on CF, and I would like to take the time to wish everybody a happy, merry or jolly good holiday season! Talk about holiday stuff here.

I'll get the ball rolling by saying this: the banner in my sig makes me realize how much ECG looks like Jesus.

Re: Happy Holidays!

The phrase you're looking for is "Merry Christmas". WTF is all this "Happy Holidays" bull ****? So tempted to edit the topic title.

Re: Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays is definitely an American thing ;)

Merry Christmas one and all!

Yeah. My flatmate gets confused when I say "Summer Holidays" because to him (and I assume most American's) The Holidays is all of the Christmas period/break. The other times off throughout the year are either break or vacation. Holidays is specifically reserved for the general time of Christmas and New Year.

So Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays/Happy Hanukkah/i-dont-give-a- **** -cos-it-doesn't-matter-what-you-call-it, I hope everyone has a wonderful time with their family and friends doing whatever they do.

Re: Happy Holidays!

Merry xmas!

Happy Holiday for those that prefer to be politically correct cause Merry Christmas is apparently pushing the faith of Jesus Christ into other religions faces and they dont like it

Re: Happy Holidays!

It's just a general term for Thanksgiving to New Years you ****.

Re: Happy Holidays!

But Thanksgiving was ages ago, so doesn't count anymore. It's only Christmas left, so just call it Christmas. ****.

Re: Happy Holidays!

^^ Easter, Labor Day, Memorial Day, Whatever-Else Day we want to close up the post office or school for that isnt Christmas!

No detection of sarcasm....really?

Ive had to listen to a lecture over Holiday/Christmas this time of year from my 2nd job since I was 16. It is apparently offensive to wish others well, because Christmas is pushing the catholic/christian religion in others faces that dont celebrate it!

So Im sarcastic when using it °°°-,-°°°

Re: Happy Holidays!

We have this discussion every year with the Americans saying Happy Holidays & the Brits insisting on Merry Christmas. In fact, most Yanks say Merry Christmas to friends & family that they know will not be offended, but will say Happy Holidays in general as to avoid upsetting anyone that might take offense.
I guess it's because of American political correctness & the larger ethnic diversity in the USA compared to the UK. I think that Happy Holidays is quite appropriate in this case as more & more Yanks have been joining CF over the past couple of years, so it covers all bases whether one celebrates it as Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or whatever.
Frohe Weihnachten und guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr!

This exactly. I don't know if there are Jews or Kwanzaa-celebration-type-peoples here or Ramadan or whatever, which is why I put Happy Holidays.

Oh, you're atheist? Well, have a nice day.

Re: Happy Holidays!

It's only Christmas because the Christians stole it in order to quash other religious celebrations anyway.

December 25th was first occupied by a Babylonian sun god until it was invaded by a bunch of other silly, copy-cat religions claiming that their god had been born on the same day. Then the pagans had it for a while, until Jesus was coincidentally born on the very same day as well! This "fact" somehow escaped everyone until the 4th century, when the Christians stepped in and captured the Roman Winter Solstice.

Putting the word "Christ" into something doesn't mean you suddenly own a day. So yeah, "Happy Holidays" is quite apt. Or it would be if I gave a flying ****. Now give me my presents and pass me a mince pie!

Re: Happy Holidays!

I couldn't care less what the meaning of either phrase is, I just hate the fact that "Happy Holidays" sounds so **** American. If I wanted to read **** like that, I'd go and join TPR.

Re: Happy Holidays!

^So you don't want CF to have any Americans members?

Merry Christmas and kiss my arse ;]

*love you all even if you don't celebrate Christmas, not that I do in the Christian sense of the word*

PS. Phil, why do you have an inflatable bag of popcorn?

Oi! :p

It's because I'm ancient and my teeth break if I get a hard bit of corn. This way I can join in popcornery if just in spirit. Hopefully, Santa will be bringing me a dental plan for Christmas.
