The hottest thing on the internet since Tuesday!

Initially intended to only be in beta, things got ridiculous once Google briefly allowed for invites into its new social media website. Now people are doing anything they can get in!

So what do people think? Does anyone have an account already?

It's restricted at the moment, and surprisingly this is the first time I've not been invited by Google to "trail" their new "thang".

Personally, I see it flopping completely like Wave and Buzz did - they try too late and they try to do something other more popular, dedicated sites with masses of people signed up do already.

Sorry Google :(

According to Engadget it is open to all Android phone users...may try it if i have the time to waste.

^ I'd hope it is, considering Google owns Android.

I remember Google trying another social networking thing a few years ago. Whether this is completely new or an iteration, I have no idea. It sounds like it could work for a little bit, but I believe that way too many people are on Facebook. I remember when Myspace started to go downhill when it started borrowing ideas from Facebook. Now, Myspace is just music. I think the Facebook team has figured out a well balanced social networking site that's easy to use. I don't think Google has much of a chance in the long run.

I've not looked into Google+ at all but this is essentially the impression of it that I get:

Justin invited me into it last night, so I got an account.

...I'm not impressed, but we'll see.

As I said the last time they came up with some bollocks like this, what's the point of a social network if you only let a select few people on it? OK, so I know it's in beta or whatever, and the invites system is a very powerful viral marketing tool, but it's all completely pointless. I've got an account. I spent 30 seconds looking at it, decided it was as pointless as I'd feared, then closed the window and haven't looked back. I was having a conversation about it yesterday at work with a Google fanboi. I posed the question, "what can it do that Facebook doesn't?" Yeah, that kinda stumped him. Nah, as others have said, it's all too little too late for Google.

Well.. that IS how Facebook started.

The thing I like the most about this so far is that there are no apps or games. It's a barebones version of Facebook that's everything I want/need in a social networking site. It takes what Facebook is meant to be used for and makes it more streamlined.

I hope to a higher power it does.

What annoys me the most with facebook is getting invite for all these apps I clearly DO NOT WANT. What killed MySpace is the over-customizablilty, everyone having these sparkling crap that slowed your internet down and just made you hate it more and more.

What???

How the hell will I know what people's horoscopes are for today? Or if they've found a lost duckling looking for a pancake roll? Or when their next train is due???

Disaster!!!!

Had a play last night, it's pretty ugly and not very intuitive. I think it's the way they've called everything by "Google" names, rather than using real words. Circles instead of Groups, Hangouts instead of Chat and Sparks instead of... Erm... Whatever the hell Sparks are

It just feels grey and dull to be honest... Facebook on a dreary wet day.
